This is a really good, solid system. It can perform a range of duties from the everyday family that cleans consistently, or a weekend college kid who crams as many clothes as he or she can fit for the days or weeks ahead. Its rare, in my opinion, to find a reasonably priced piece of equipment that can handle the wide spectrum of duties that this unit can! To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised.I have had this unit now for 15 months. It has been involved in a move (setup, takedown, move, then setup again). It has been stacked as well as current configuration, side by side, with its amazing dryer partner. So, here is what I've observed.I believe the unit performs better with "The More the Merrier" approach. The tighter one gets the clothes packed in, the more efficient it becomes, both with water and additives (detergent, oxi, and softener). The unit tends to be slightly more aggressive (action) than an auger based system, which to an extent, makes sense because its own action makes the clothes do their rolly polly cleaning thing. rather than a central mechanism to spin around. From time to time I've had my clothes wound together after a cycle is complete. The clothes weren't damaged and it wasn't difficult to unwind them and it probably wouldn't have happened had I put more clothes in before starting the cycle. Therefore, I blame myself and not the unit when it happens. Nonetheless, the wound clothes still were very clean, so the washer was still able to get the job done! Occasionally, I hear the unit hopping (slightly off balance) but it doesn't happen enough for me to realign the feet (which is quite easy for anyone to do by themselves!). The noise is what everyone tends to focus their love or hate when it comes to front loading washers, to me, having this unit in the room next to where I sleep doesn't bother me with anything I do, including sleeping as it runs. Just a slight whrrrr noise that can easily be drowned out by a fan on low.The features are everything I could ever want in a washer. I use the steam cycles about 40% of the time. It wasn't my main reason for buying this unit but I find myself using it more than I would have ever imagined. For instance, my father had a tee-shirt he was wearing a few weeks ago. He complained it had a slight musty smell from being wet so he tried washing it multiple times with a fairly new (other branded) machine. As he was about to throw the shirt away after his failed attempts. I asked if I could bring it home and see what I could do. One cycle, BOOM... GONE... No smell. Perfect shirt. Just from this one circumstance, proves what kind of product this is and what it can do.Capacity is the only thing that I'd tend to have a gripe about. 4.3 cubic feet is able to handle just about every situation, when I encounter the occasional mount of clothes I do wish I could make the rest fit. It would be nice to have a bit more space to fit a quilt with some clothes perhaps but then again with the way it works and how quickly it cleans, its not that big of a deal. Cycles take from 23 minutes to 2 hours depending on what one's needs are. I usually have a 33 to 40 minute cycle on the wash. I'd say if your family was bigger than four people, I'd recommend a slightly bigger unit.Other than that, It looks great, its overly fancy and doesn't need to be polished and cleaned all the time. Just remember to keep the door ajar after washing so mold doesn't creep into the seals, which for me has never happened and I've never needed to clean it yet! It is VERY efficient and I've never looked back!Hope this helps! You can't go wrong with this unit no matter who you are and how messy your life is!

This $900 machine is dead after 6 months!!! Will never buy a Maytag again. Their quality has declined significantly. When this machine was running, it was so loud that you could not carry on a conversation in the lower level of our home. Everyone that was in our home while it was running said there had to be something wrong with it. It did get the clothes clean for the 6 months that it worked. Hate it! Buy an old-fashioned washer and save your money.

Comments about Maytag Performance Series MHWE950WW White Front Load Steam Washer:
In year 4 of use, experienced problems with 2 boards in the unit. I like this washing machine but wish for the old days in terms of reliability.

Great product, poor performance

I had the product for not a very long time, and the inner rubber caging broke leading to flood in house. Ordered a replacement after contacting company which stated it would come out to diagnose problem when I already explained issue. I ordered replacement part and it didn't work.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I bought this about two years ago and had it shipped to my home in South America. It arrived in July 2014 and now the basket has failed. With a 10 year warranty, I was not overly concerned UNTIL I contacted Maytag. They would do nothing about it because the machine is in SA. Asked for a way to get help here and the response was "We are unable to help you". I asked for a website or phone number and the response was the same. Asked for a supervisor and was told they couldn't help either. Like I said, a disaster!

Can you say bearing failure?
By Bearing woes
from West Palm Beach
Ok So I grew up with a Maytag. The only issues we had was a couple of belts and at about 15 years the pump failed. but it was cheap to replace. This was the only unit I remember growing up. So we purchased the Maytag front load 4000 series. at 2,5 years main bearing failure. ok so the store approved an upgrade to the 9000 series guess what. 2.5 years main bearing failure. I called Maytag and they customer service rep says oh yes we have an issue with the main bearings I will transfer you to our special task team dealing with these. The special task team answers and says sorry your machine is out of warranty. you will have to deal with your extended warranty company. so 2 maytag front load washers in 5 years both fail with main bearing issues. I should have read the online reviews. these things are self destructing and Maytag will not stand behind their product. I WILL NEVER BUY MAYTAG OR WHIRLPOOL AGAIN.
Waited a few years to review for a honest test of longevity and still holing up great with no problems. We wash at least 6 or 7 loads each weekend. I have three boys and the two oldest, who do their own laundry, have a habit of trying to stuff it full and clothes still come out clean. We mainly use the heavy duty cycle but the whitest white cycle is nice too. It replaced a more than ten year old Maytag and we have worked it hard since day one. I have to say it is well made, and am glad I purchased it.
3 years old... Basket bearing fails and shake the thing apart. Replacement/repair cost exceeded cost of a new washer. I thought Maytag was supposed to be a good brand... I guess everything is no made to fail

Have owned over a month now and have never been more pleased. Quite operation, smart function design and my clothers have never been cleaner. The whites come out like grandma's whites used to which is something I wasn't getting from my other front loader that died which was another big name in America. I would recommend this machine as a Best Brand Purchase.
Magtag is the best

Bought this Front Load Washer when my old Fridiger died - I liked my old one but love this new one even better - It is so quiet and gets the clothes nice and clean

The washing machine meets and exceeds our Expectations. We will consider Maytag appliances for future purchase.

The front load washer has basically delivered as promised. Items have come out well cleaned. I have been a little disappointed in how well it spins out heavier items. And the time to completion count-down has not proved to be accurate (taking significantly longer than the time posted). But the end result is still decent. We have had one episode of water on the floor. We have not called yet for service; it occurred when I tried to use a heavy item cycle to attempt to spin out the items better. So, there have been a few concerns yet I'm still relatively satisfied with the end production.
