I bought the iX2000 as soon as I heard hurricane Irene was going to hit. I ended up getting the last one, which was displayed and demo'd on the floor, as it was the last one left. The fuel inside it was brown and foul. The dealer drained it and poured fresh fuel in it and the generator started up on the third pull. It pulsated at first, but what do you expect with 2 year old fuel in it? The dealer I bought this from was very honest and knowledgable. I asked if these generac inverters has any problems, and he said yes. Common problems they see are carburetor issues, choke levers breaking off, oil sensors not working right, and something else which has to do with power surging but I can't remember the exact name of the part. He made sure everything worked right before I left out the door with it. And any problems I had to come right back to him with it. Great thing is, I haven't had any problems with this generator! When we lost power, it ran night and day for 6 straight days. I only shut it off for its first and second oil changes. This guy never quit on me once! In summary, this is an excellent inverter generator, however do not buy this online. Go to an authorized Generac dealer and buy it. Have them start it, check it, and make sure it's ok before going out the door.

We were in the bad hurricane force winds of July 2012 storms; hit twice, without power for over eight days (and only a mere 1/2 block from the staging center for MonPower's power restoration). Luckily I had this as my only way to get any power. It was able to keep my refrigeration running and when the temperatures rose, would switch it back and forth to a small window AC in one room, plus ran my medium size flat screen and small computer to watch some movies (since cable, phone, Net EVERYTHING was out of service). It ran them well, however, it is very hard to restart after running out of gas. Even if you stop it manually to refill, it is hard to restart. It is BRAND NEW, NEW USED before this incident. I've wound up with an extremely sore hand and arm and a couple fingers that are red and raw from pulling the started cord up to 50 times to restart after a refill. On the PLUS side, I timed the running time with the "stopwatch" on my iPod and it ran 4:00:52 (4 hours 52 seconds) with the fridge, 2 fans, small computer and flat screen running off it... so I got longer run times than expected in specs on it. Only had ONE overload (no idea why) the entire week when the AC first engaged (it was a brand new AC I had yet to replace the one in my bedroom with.. so maybe because it was new...) but never did it again over span of 8 days. This may NOT be recommended by manufacturer, so take this advice at own risk: I noticed it seemed rather hot when temps were hitting 100degrees and I took off the side panel to check air filter (clean as brand new) then left off the panel allow more air flow. It was a little easier to start after doing this and seemed to run a bit cooler.

Comments about Generac iX Series 800 Watts Portable Generator:
I have purchased 4 of these iX 2000, after my initial purchase of 2 ix1600 generators. I was quite impressed with the design and look right off the bat, when i had purchased the ix 1600's and was quite impressed of the performance, whether blistering heat, or cold temperatures that i used the units in. Over the past year, I have never had a failure, let alone an issue of non performance due to start up, or running all day long. I have received many comments ; all good from those who have seen these units perform, and friends that have borrowed them off of me. These units really are a great investment, and I will purchase more as our work load ramps up. Have included a not so great shot, but 6 Generacs being used for public address systems at a drag strip.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A bit louder than I expected, but gets the job done and is lighter than I expected too. Easy to transport.
Excellent product for price
I purchased the IX2000 invertor for camping. Started first pull out of the box. Only issue that I have is it is a little bit louder than the reviews and specs lead me to believe. I still love the product, but will need to find a way to make it a bit quieter for camping. Would I buy it again? Absolutely!
Great little unit "if you use it for it's intended use"!
from Southern NJ
I purchased this little unit "solely" for camping lights and it does this perfectly. Understand that it's only 800 watts, if you want to run a refrigerator and all the camping items you want to bring, "DON"T buy this unit, it's too small. This is a fantastic unit for a fan in the tent and a light or two. I haul this unit on my ATV and it's light and very portable. It has already ran over 4+ hours with lights on and not so much as a hick-up. I broke the unit in slow and changed the oil as the manual says and have even gave it a second oil change in 10 hours time. If you want to compare this unit to others that are three times the price, don't bother… For $300+ dollars it is a "VERY NICE" unit for the money. Take care of it, follow the instructions and it will serve you well. Only thing is I use a 50ft extension cord to get it away from the camping area, it is slightly louder than some other small units, "but" for the money and a long cord, "no problem"!
nice little generator
I got this unit to run my circular saw with out having to drag out my 100' extension cord. It works great for this purpose, its nice and quiet. I also wanted to run my little fridge and some lights if a storm ever comes. Tested it out to see how well it would take that load and it worked just fine. I also purchased from my local dealer and I was impressed with the service. They shown me how to operate and service it. They initially oiled and fueled it up checked operation. I like to support my local business anyway. Thanks Generac for the great product and thanks local generac dealer for the service.
This generator is so cool. Just blows everything else away. So quiet and smooth running. It's truly a great product. Definitely will highly recommend this product to everyone.
Great generator for camping or anytime you are on the go!
from Jefferson City
After unlocking the unit and becoming familiar with the directions, I added the oil and gas and it started right up without any issues. I let it warm up for just a bit and tested it out with a portable 1500W heater. It ran the heater without hesitation with a very reasonable exhaust tone. The ECO mode allowed the engine to lower the RPM a bit to make it even quieter. I hate the sound of a generator just screaming for no reason, so with the ECO mode turned on is where I will be running it mostly. Absolutely love the ECO mode! The 49lbs or so makes it very portable and easy to carry with one hand. I walked it all the way around the house and into the lower garage and put it up on the bench with one arm. My wife has heavier luggage! I tested the 12vdc option on a lead-acid battery and like the manual says, it is not a regulated output by any means. Personally I would have liked to see it regulated at least somewhat. I measured over 20vdc with not load and loaded on a mostly charged battery the output was 15-16vdc. I find this too high for a rated output of 12vdc. The load would have to be quite heavy to draw it down to 12vdc. I had hoped to possibly use is output for other loads other than charging batteries, but I guess I will have to stick with what it was designed for. And like the manual states, don't leave a battery on there too long otherwise you will over charge it. I looked to an external voltage regulator, but the options are limited and pricey. In conclusion, I think it's a great unit and compares the same or better then the red or blue units out there. I'm a very happy customer!
Starts Good and runs Quiet, Air filter could be better.
from Twin Falls
I purchased this generator for camping and works great! It has been easy to start, puts out rated power and It is quiet enough for camping with close neighbors. The only complaint that I have is that the air filter does not do a good job of keeping dust out of the engine if the generator is run while setting in loose soil.
great unit for the price
this unit is quiet and runs smooth and light weight to move around we use it as a portable for our jobs arouind our c-stores saves on having to drag extension cords around
Great little generator for the price!
from Las Vegas
Bought this to support my motorcycle and car track day excursions. Provides plenty of power for my small air compressor, music, etc. Also like the 12VDC output for battery charging. Quiet & economical, a perfect fit for my needs!
