Wanted an electric downflow cooktop to replace lightening damaged Jenn-air. This was the best choice for the $'s. Heats up faster than old unit. Easier to set correct temp. Has one element which reaches needed temp extremely fast, and which can be set for either smaller diameter pans or large diameter. Nice feature when time is a factor. Has a light that shines red when unit is off but portions remain hot to the touch. Nice safety feature. Red glow when elements are in use is another good feature and intensity varies with temp setting. Sits nearly flush with counter top. vents downward and vent is effective, but if you are replacing a 30" jenn-air, the old vent duct will not align correctly with the new Kitchen aid unit, necessitating using flexibile ducting and cutting a new hole if you have a shelf directly below the new unit. This can easily be botched by your installer, as our's was, so stand over the installer and insist that the retrofit of the downflow duct be performed correctly. Get the correct cleaner for the glass top. You will be glad you did, because soap and water is a bad approach, and the surface will collect hard to remove blemishes that come from pans and skillets, especially iron type pans and skillets. The black top is a lot like a black car. It will show dust and grime worse than stainless steel or white surfices. Poor cleaning attempts just make it worse because black is just hard to keep looking good. A good choice if it lasts.

We replaced our old Jenn Air down draft with this new cooktop. It looked beautiful in the kitchen. However, one of the knobs had to be replaced within a week of installation. The heating elements on the large burners are very uneven, with medium setting being very high heat. It is impossible to clean-even for water that has boiled or splashed over. I have tried every cleaning product available for this type of cooktop, even home remedies such as baking soda and hot towels. Nothing removes the food stains/debris except scraping very carefully with razor blades, which leaves tiny scratches. I would never recommend this product. I spend hours trying to get it clean, and once it is clean I dread cooking again for fear of something spilling or splashing.

Cooktop with Downdraft
from Brainerd, MN
Comments about KitchenAid 30" KECD807XBL Black Electric Cooktop:
The cooktop is very functional and beautiful. I debated about getting a cooktop with a downdraft, but am so glad that I did since there is no hood above it because the cooktop is on my center island. My one frustration is that some scratches have appeared from some of my pans, so I may have to invest in some new pots and pans.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Love this cooktop

We bought this cooktop as a part of our kitchen remodel project and love it!

We have had this stove for a couple of weeks now, and we are very pleased with it. It replaced an old Jenn Air. We were going to go with another Jenn Air, but were told that the Kitchen Aid was the exact same model, only several hundred dollars cheaper. I looked at both instruction manuals online and found out that this was true. The mailing addresses for both products was even the same address. Anyway, we have used it several times and found it to be quite consistent. Clean up is also quite easy. Overall we are very pleased. The only thing I would change is to have each burner have its own "hot" light. It is difficult to tell which burner is still hot if you were not the person doing the cooking.
Love the options on the burners

Live the options given in the burners to either choose single or dual burner.

I have never been super fond of glass ceramic cooktops but I have had one for years. They are hard to keep looking spotless....

Nice Cooking Surface

I bought this as a replacement for my 25 year old Jenn Air solid iron cooktop, which I loved. We have been remodeling our kitchen and needed a downdraft cooktop. So far, the cooktop works fine, but is much less efficient in heating and holding temperatures. The instant heat is nice, but nothing to write home about. Yes, I would purchase this again as there is not a choice for the one that I am replaced. The only reason that we replaced the old cooktop was its age and the fact that the new counters had to be cut.
