Wanted an electric downflow cooktop to replace lightening damaged Jenn-air. This was the best choice for the $'s. Heats up faster than old unit. Easier to set correct temp. Has one element which reaches needed temp extremely fast, and which can be set for either smaller diameter pans or large diameter. Nice feature when time is a factor. Has a light that shines red when unit is off but portions remain hot to the touch. Nice safety feature. Red glow when elements are in use is another good feature and intensity varies with temp setting. Sits nearly flush with counter top. vents downward and vent is effective, but if you are replacing a 30" jenn-air, the old vent duct will not align correctly with the new Kitchen aid unit, necessitating using flexibile ducting and cutting a new hole if you have a shelf directly below the new unit. This can easily be botched by your installer, as our's was, so stand over the installer and insist that the retrofit of the downflow duct be performed correctly. Get the correct cleaner for the glass top. You will be glad you did, because soap and water is a bad approach, and the surface will collect hard to remove blemishes that come from pans and skillets, especially iron type pans and skillets. The black top is a lot like a black car. It will show dust and grime worse than stainless steel or white surfices. Poor cleaning attempts just make it worse because black is just hard to keep looking good. A good choice if it lasts.

recent kitchen remodel. replaced all appliances with the Kitchen Aid Architect series - not cheap. Love the oven/microwave convection combo. Love the fridge with platinum interior. Halfway love the three tier dishwasher except it won't fit my Tervis tumblers on top and plates on bottom during the same wash. But the worst part is this downdraft cooktop. Used it one time to fry bacon and it is pitted with tiny cloudy dots. I have used the cleaner provided and followed directions but it will not erase the pits or clean up nicely. If I could do it again, I would go back to coils. I do NOT recommend this to anyone. If I could, I would pull it out and replace with coils. Nowhere in the instruction booklet provided did it recommend cookware. I looked on the internet and used my Calphalon (as suggested) for the ONE TIME I cooked on it. I'm going to research and find different cookware that might work better. DO NOT BUY THIS COOKTOP!!

very poor design and even worse customer satisfaction from i
Comments about KitchenAid 30" KECD807XBL Black Electric Cooktop:
we just recently installed this unit and are totally unsatisfied with its design and more important kitchenaids refusal to satisfy us as a customer. the rep i talked with says the only thing they will do is repair or replace the unit , but will not refund our purchase price so we can buy a unit we can be happy with. i would never recommend this unit to anyone as i dont believe you should have to scrape the burners with a razor blade or leave them looking cruddy. the grease filter is a joke also i give this unit and the utterly lousy response from kitchenaid a zero satisfaction rating
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Purchased two months ago and very happy we did. Replaced an older, tired countertop model. The functionality of the cooking elements is excellent.

Just installed this cooktop and have only used it twice. Have not had a glass cooktop before. I am worried about upkeep. Sure hope it lives up to its reputation. I am pretty fussy and don' like to see streaks. It may drive me crazy keeping it streak free. It is in the middle of an island.

We love it.
I have a small cooktop area to replace with few options. It was between JennAir and KitchenAid. Apparently both are made by same manufacturer with KitchenAid being substantially less. Have a wonderful KitchenAid dishwasher so went for KA with the cooktop.

This cooktop is amazing & easy to clean.
By Liz the retired one!

This cooktop has it all: two alternate size burners, two separate mid and small size burners. The down draft feature prevents food odors from permeating open design homes and also does away with food splatter that requires messy clean-ups.
