No matter what I read and heard, nothing prepared me for how instantaneous the induction feature has been. Whatever pot/pan I choose to use, the configuration of the top is perfect for use. The ease of cleaning makes cooking delightful as does the instant cool down with toddlers present. The ability to so easily adjust the cooking temperature far exceeds its reputation leaving me totally satisfied with this purchase,

This cooktop is great... WHEN IT WORKS! Unfortunately, it already broke down on me two times in 8 months. Each time, I was left without a cooktop for weeks. Now I am stuck with this thing in which I have zero confidence, and just wait for it to break down a third time. Do yourself a favor: don't buy this unit. Don't get me wrong: I love it when it works. It does everything an induction cooktop is supposed to do, and very well. Let me add that all my appliances are Kitchenaid, so I have nothing against this brand. But this particular unit was clearly not ready for primetime. Maybe in a few years, after the engineers have come up with a new version of the same unit, it will be ready. But right now, it is unreliable.

Works like a charm!

Comments about KitchenAid 30" Black Electric Cooktop:
This is my first smooth service electric cooktop for my island. The heating elements are fast to heat up and really get things cooking. I like the configuration of the elements and the downdraft is powerful. Cleaning the cooktop takes time but it's not too difficult. I never liked the looks of the large knobs but that was my only option with a downdraft. I would have preferred digital!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This cooktop is a beautiful addition to the kitchen in my rental home. The tenant is very excited to begin using it!

This looks very pretty initially, but it is hard to clean. I see every speck of dust on it, which drives me nuts! I haven't had it very long, so am not sure what it will be like a year from now. I feel like I'm cleaning it constantly, because it shows everything. It cooks great though!
hard to clean - bad filter design
from Benton Harbor, MI, United States
We had an older version of the ceramic top cook top with a circular filter - we liked the older version much, much better. The grease filter on this version is terrible, the removable filter is supposed to lean across the downdraft opening but does not properly sit within the space designed and constantly falls to the bottom. As grease is pulled into the filter area after the filter falls it naturally falls to the bottom of the unit. I have to reach my arm in past my elbow to try to clean the grease build up in the bottom. My husband's larger arm won't even fit, so he couldn't clean it if he wanted to. The filter design is flawed.
A definite improvement for my kitchen

Three months ago, we replaced our 19-year old cooktop with the KitchenAid 30-inch Downdraft Electric Cooktop. With its black surface and stainless steel trim, it looks beautiful in my kitchen, but even better is the way it performs. The elements heat quickly and evenly, and my cookware sits evenly on the flat surface, which it could not do on the old coil burners. Two of the elements have dual sizes, which helps greatly when I am cooking several things simultaneously. Versatility is further increased by the fact that the elements have different wattages, which allows for an increased range of available cooking temperatures. While I think this is a marvelous feature, it means that the user needs to be aware of the relative capability of each element; “medium on a higher wattage element is hotter than “medium on a lower wattage element. Not realizing this has probably contributed to negative reviews about some burners not heating well and other complaints about burners being too hot. The downdraft fan has two speeds, which is a nice feature. Keeping a glass cooktop spotless is far easier than trying to do the same with drip pans for the old-style coil burners. However, it is not always as easy as simply wiping over it with a wet dishcloth. When spots of cooked-on food remain on the surface, I use a small amount of the sample cleaner-polish that was included with the cooktop. So far, I have not had to use a razor blade to remove cooked-on food, but I typically wipe spills off immediately, just as I did with my former cooktop. Judging from the experience my parents and my husband’s parents have had with their glass cooktops of different brands, the KitchenAid is no easier nor more difficult to clean than other brand glass cooktops.
Boils water so quickly!
from Emmaus, PA, United States
I purchased this new cooktop for a kitchen remodel. Love the sleek look and love how it boils water so quickly. It is difficult to keep it clean because of it being glass but after it is cleaned it looks beautiful.
