Purchased this 36" 5-burner electric range to replace my 2000 GE 4 - burner. Size wise I love this new one. My old one had a very annoying and stupidly placed rim around each of the two sets of burners that made the cooking surface only about 9 inches each (although it was a 30 inch range). I honestly didn't have many options for an electric cooktop because we had to have a downdraft per code. So it was between the KA and a Kenmore. I chose KA simply b/c Lowe's was offering a rebate at the time. I didn't look closely before I ordered and didn't realize that one of the burners in strictly "Keep Warm" and unfortunately, it's the burner right up front. Would be better suited in the back I think. Anyway, I do like the dual zone which allows for larger pots. He heats up faster than my old one did. The downdraft is WEAK--barely pulls steam off a pot--which isn't a huge negative for me because I rarely use it. My #1 biggest complaint about this appliance is that it looks dirty CONSTANTLY. A drop of water from a pot, dust in the air, a wet wipe smear--it all shows up!! My previous one was a gray/black mottled finish so I didn't have this issue that the all black finish has. I feel like I have to clean it everyday even when it's not used much just because of how it looks. Drives me crazy. Honestly just hadn't considered this factor before the purchase. Functionally works great. Aesthetics-wise, drives me NUTS!

WHEN I READ THE REVIEWS, THE FIRST 10 OR SO ALL REFLECTED POSITIVE RATINGS. I SHOULD HAVE READ FURTHER ON. THAT IS WHERE THE MORE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE FOUND. THE COOKTOP IS HARD TO KEEP CLEAN. THE KNOBS ARE IN THE WAY. AND GET DIRTY EASILY. THE UNIT DOES NOT COOK UNTIL THE SETTING IS BEYOND MEDIUM HIGH. THEN IT TURNS ON AND OFF TO MAINTAIN THAT TEMPERATURE, RATHER THAN TO KEEP COOKING AT THAT LEVEL OF APPLIED HEAT. I CAN COOK AND IF YOU WALK AWAY, IT WILL EITHER STOP COOKING OR BURN THE MEAL. ITS A DISAPPOINTING REPLACEMENT FOR OUR OLD JENN AIR RADIANT MODULAR. WE HAD A SERVICE CALL LAST WEEK TO REPLACE ONE OF THE BURNER SWITCHES AFTER ONLY 5 MONTHS. THE REPAIR WEBSITE LISTS COMMON MALADIES IN A DROP DOWN BOX AND MY UNITS SYMPTOM OF POPPING (ELECTRICAL) WAS LISTED. THE TECHNICIAN AND I PLACED A THERMOMETER IN A PAN OF COLD WATER AND IT TOOK 20 MINUTES TO REACH 204 DEGREES ON MEDIUM AND DID NOT BOIL THE WATER. THE ENTIRE UNIT MUST BE REMOVED TO WORK ON IT.

Great Look in Kitchen remodel
By Happy Cook
from Olympia, WA
Love the look! This replaced a 30" with large ceiling hood. The downdraft gives a bigger, cleaner look. The metal trim looks great on our granite choice. We didn't think we'd have room for anything in the cabinet with the fan unit below. We were pleasantly surprised to stow away large pots, skillets and splatter screens. The large dual burner also works great for pancakes in a 14" nonstick fry pan. Waited a long time for the install, but all worth it.

The layout of the heating elements could be better.
Why did I wait so long?!

We selected this cooktop for our home we were building. I'd never had the flat surface cooktop before. I Love IT!!Cooks evenly, boils water quickly, clean up is so easy-that was a shock to me. And it looks gorgeous!!

Cooktop works well and has several good features. One of few we found with a downdraft.

At first glance, the overall look and style was just what we were looking for! The versatility of choosing the burner size was a big plus. I do, however, find that the glass top surface is VERY hard to keep clean. Cooking spills stain easily and, despite using the recommended cleaning products and methods, the stains remain.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Replaced a Thermador cooktop with downdraft venting!
from Boonton Township
I replaced a Thermador cooktop with a downdraft fan. I like the fact that this cooktop has the fan built in and you can barely notice it. I live in an area that has no gas so I am stuck with electric. It is still hard to keep clean. Every mark shows but you have the same problem with stainless steel. All in all, it cooks much faster than my old Thermador and I am really happy with its overall performance. I would have liked to order the cooktop with touch controls but it was too expensive.

Yes with a but...
We purchased a five door refrigerator/freezer, convection oven/microwave combo, dishwasher and counter top cool top. The stove top came damaged and we had a bit of an issue having it replaced. I do find that it is very difficult to keep clean but do not know if it is a product of this style (black glass surface). The dishwasher is beyond quiet!

In January, we replaced a cooktop with very old technology, so we are still adjusting our techniques, but we are very happy with the results. Having a variety of size choices on the burners is a real plus. Two people shouldn't need five burners that include eight options, but we use them all. The dual elements heat very quickly, and all elements heat evenly and consistently (no variation in time it takes to heat the same pot and amount of water from one time to the next). The downdraft works very efficiently; low setting has been sufficient for everything we have cooked to date. We find it easy to use and clean. Most spills and spatters wipe up with dish soap and water, and the special cooktop cleaner takes care of the rest. It still looks brand-new. Our only suggestion for improvement is that KitchenAid design a magnetic device to cover the downdraft when not in use to block outside air and protect the grid from spatters and spills.
