Purchased this 36" 5-burner electric range to replace my 2000 GE 4 - burner. Size wise I love this new one. My old one had a very annoying and stupidly placed rim around each of the two sets of burners that made the cooking surface only about 9 inches each (although it was a 30 inch range). I honestly didn't have many options for an electric cooktop because we had to have a downdraft per code. So it was between the KA and a Kenmore. I chose KA simply b/c Lowe's was offering a rebate at the time. I didn't look closely before I ordered and didn't realize that one of the burners in strictly "Keep Warm" and unfortunately, it's the burner right up front. Would be better suited in the back I think. Anyway, I do like the dual zone which allows for larger pots. He heats up faster than my old one did. The downdraft is WEAK--barely pulls steam off a pot--which isn't a huge negative for me because I rarely use it. My #1 biggest complaint about this appliance is that it looks dirty CONSTANTLY. A drop of water from a pot, dust in the air, a wet wipe smear--it all shows up!! My previous one was a gray/black mottled finish so I didn't have this issue that the all black finish has. I feel like I have to clean it everyday even when it's not used much just because of how it looks. Drives me crazy. Honestly just hadn't considered this factor before the purchase. Functionally works great. Aesthetics-wise, drives me NUTS!

I purchased this cooktop to fit the space in my countertop but I would have preferred the 30 inch model. We are not happy about it.The biggest complaint about this cooktop is that it is a mess to clean it up. It accumulates stains easily which are hard to remove. The fan system works poorly. The design of the The stainless steel edges that are at the bottom and top of the cooktop can lead to easy cutting if you are not careful when cleaning it. The edges are very sharp and should have designed differently. If anyone who has this black cooktop knows how to clean and maintain it shiny please let us know. Some of the burners warm faster than others for no reason.

After 3 weeks of use only 4 of the 5 burners work and it has taken over a month to get replacement parts.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Have used this for a few weeks now. It replaced our very outdated Jennair downdraft. The fan on this item is incredible. THe look is very sophisticated and lovely in an all stainless kitchen. We have the one with the SS trim. As long as you have the right cleaning tools on hand you are all set. Never use a wet washcloth or sponge on this baby. Weiman Cooktop daily cleaner with a paper towel, for once a month polishings I use Cerama Bryte lotion polish with their own Cerama Bryte yellow scrubbers. It sparkles.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

First time for a separate cooktop. It is a perfect burner system and the downdraft works perfectly.

Replaced a 30 year old Amana downdraft of comparable size. A 3/4" cut was required from the front of the existing opening, and the hole for the down draft was adjusted accordingly. It was simple to install for two people -- a requirement to prevent the top from being damaged during placement. The finish of the control knobs is extraordinary. They are solid metal with a heavy gasket to prevent grease or other foreign material from entering around the surface opening. I have enjoyed cooking many dishes and use the exhaust fan every time. The exhaust fan is quiet and powerful. Operates more efficiently than must up drafted exhaust that I have experienced. When I am in the market for other KitchenAid products I will seriously look at their product first.
LOVE THIS COOK-TOP

Purchased on-line and had a local installer complete the install. I love the cook-top. It is just what I wanted.

WE Love this new flat glass cooktop

So much easier to clean than the old Magic Chef that had the frame with a lip.the lip would catch food particles and was hard to clean. The new KitchenAid without a lip is easy to take care of and the dual size burners are fantastic to choose the size to match the pan.

Cooktop heats quickly but maintaining a constant High setting is difficult.Keeping the surface clean is not easy, the slightest spill leaves a mark and it takes a lot of elbow grease to remove them.I was also disappointed that a cleaning kit (that I had to purchase separately) was not included in our order.
