This KitchenAid® 30-Inch, 4-Burner Downdraft Cooktop is a great looking cook top. The down draft exhaust fan works extremely well. The burners are electronic start and gas operated with great heat control. The only thing I do not like about it is that the Black Mirror Finish is extremely hard to clean, you would think that Kitchen Aid would make a product that the top shiny black glass finish can be easily wiped off with a mild detergent or a product like Windex. I hate to see what it will look like in 5 years of use.

The cooktop is very attractive, but only before its first use. However, that is my first complaint - it is extremely difficult and time consuming to clean. After nearly every use, all of the components need to be removed, cleaned using separate protocols and then reassembled ? a process that takes no less than 15 minutes. The black glass is especially hard to clean, and the position of the knobs makes it impossible to clean around them without removing the knobs and the rubber seals. It also took many weeks of experimentation to determine that the only way to avoid streaking was to finish with a microfiber towel (no other material works). It would have been helpful if the instructions had said that.Second, after only a few uses, the porcelain surface on the cast iron grates began bubbling off. In addition, due to the glossy surface and the fact that the grates have an overall convex shape, some pans have a tendency to slip off the sides ? a very dangerous proposition. As for cooking, I don?t find any of the burners to have a high enough BTU rating to boil water in a satisfactory amount of time (nor keep a big pot of pasta boiling properly) ? the maximum burner is only 15,000 BTU. And here?s something that makes things worse ? when the downdraft exhaust is on, it pulls the flame so strongly to one side, that the opposite side of the flame almost doesn?t exist! This makes for unacceptably uneven cooking.I checked the internet for other reviews of this cooktop to see if I was the only one who had similar problems ? far from it. All of the problems I have experiences are common. I?ve come to the conclusion that this cooktop is just for looks and isn?t a serious cooking device. Before I just throw this out and spend a lot of money buying another brand , I thought I would check and see if there was anything KitchenAid was willing to do. They made it very clear that they weren't willing to do anything regarding my dissatisfaction with this product.

Enjoying my new cooktop.

I replaced 17 yr. old cooktop which still mostly worked. My new Kitchenaid is so much more powerful and easy to control.

Good product for the $

Good functional cook top. After having a service tech adjust the flame heights, I was very happy. Before the adjustment, there was no simmer option. I bought this cook top sight unseen, so I was surprised when I saw the top was made of glass. The heating and air tech that was installing it accidentally dropped his screwdriver on it and chipped the glass, which then had to be replaced. Note to self: Be careful and don't drop anything on the glass! My only complaint is that the glass is difficult to clean if any oil gets on the surface. It took many tries to keep it from smearing. Normal use makes for easy clean-up. Compared to similar products on the market with a downdraft, this is a very good purchase!
Great looking and functioning appliance.

Just got this installed a month ago and love it!!! The downdraft is super powerful and works better than I expected. It is very nice looking with my Klondike Paydirt quartz countertop! Love it!!

Easy ro keep clean

Actually a friend recommended that I buy a black cook top rather than stainless steel and I am glad I listened to her advise. Just wipe with a soft cloth and cleans like a dream. I had a stainless steel cooktop that just got replace and I was always trying new products to try and keep it looking new and clean. Nothing worked..

Installed about a month ago and installed with no real issues in counter top where a GE Profile countertop was removed. We looked at a number of brands and not only was this best looking but most rugged and easy to clean as well. The exhaust fan is louder than expected.

Nice, but. . . .
from San Diego, CA
For the most part I like the design and layout of the unit. As with any down-draft cooktop, turning on the fan distorts the flames -- pulling them toward the fan -- which causes uneven heat. The one complaint I have is that one of the control knobs broke in the first five months of ownership. KitchenAid is refusing to replace the obviously defective part under warranty, claiming it is a "cosmetic" issue. I have been cooking for forty-five years on hundreds of different appliances and this is the first control knob I've ever had break. At the price of these units, such poor quality -- not backed by the unit's warranty or the extended warranty I purchased -- is absolutely unacceptable. And when I ordered a replacement knob (using the model number and serial number from my purchase invoice, which matches what is on the label on the unit), KitchenAid sent the wrong knob. After more than three weeks I'm still waiting for a replacement. My recommendation on this is conditional -- have other users had better warranty experiences?
