Sony Green Cyber-Shot 10.2 Megapixel Digital Camera, Model DSCTX5G

The Sony® Cyber-shot® DSC-TX5 combines a sleek, waterproof design with high technology. The camera offers stunning low light performance with the ability to capture amazing panoramic images in Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode. Never miss the best shot with 10 frames per second, and show off all your images on a large 3” touchscreen LCD.

Features:

  • 10.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS Image Sensor
The DSC-TX5 features a 10.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined “Exmor R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ® image processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur and Hand-held Twilight
  • Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® Lens with 25mm equivalent wide 4x Optical Zoom
The high-performance Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 4x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups up to just under ½” from the subject. A wide angle of 25mm equivalentwide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces
  • 3" Wide Clear Photo LCD Plus™ Touch Screen
A large 3” Wide Clear Photo LCD Plus™ touch screen display¹ (230K pixels) allows you to scroll through images by simply touching the display
  • Backlight Correction HDR
Shooting high-contrast scenes can often lead to washed out backgrounds and/or details lost in shadow. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking two pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of both into a single image for more natural looking shots
  • Easy Touch Screen Interaction
The DSC-TX5 offers intuitive functions to the multi-purpose touch screen, such as the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen and one-touch access to the MENU. The display also features improved readability with list view and index view
  • Rugged and Stylish
If you want a camera that’s just as much at home in the water as on a night on the town, the TX5 is for you! Just 3/4 “ thin, the sleek and stylish TX5 fits the slimmest pocket or purse, yet is waterproof to a depth of 10 ft, shockproof from falls up to approximately 5 ft and dustproof15 thanks to its airtight construction. As well, this durable camera can even withstand extreme weather conditions, as it is operable in temperatures from 14- to 104-degrees Fahrenheit. The TX5 includes Sony’s “Exmor R” CMOS sensor for incredible low-light performance, intelligent Sweep Panorama, Anti Motion blur and Twilight handheld shooting modes, even a 3” touch screen LCD1 operable underwater! Seamlessly shifting from underwater marvels to a night on the town, the TX5 always helps you get the best shot!
  • Anti Motion Blur Mode
Capture cleaner and sharper images in low light for non landscape shots. When set in Anti motion Blur Mode, the DSC-TX5 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shutter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and dramatically reduce subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras
  • Hand-held Twilight
Capture cleaner and sharper night shots without using a tripod. When set to Hand-held Twilight Mode, the DSC-TX5 captures six images in a fraction of a second with one press of the shutter, and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and low noise. With these modes, you can capture images in low light, without flash, beyond the capability of traditional cameras
  • Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes with Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode. Press shutter and sweep and the camera does the rest, continuously, shooting images and in one second stitching them together. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion
  • High speed shooting
The DSC-TX5 can capture full 10.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that you capture the decisive moment such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, the DSC-TX5 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects
  • HDMI Output
The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) is a compact audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed digital streams. HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a compatible camcorder, Blu-ray Disc™ player, a personal computer, a video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV)
  • HD MP4 Movie Mode
In 720p MP4 movie mode the camera shoots 1280 x 720 high definition movies at 30 fps, the perfect format when working with a PC. Users can create high quality movie files small enough to transfer to compatible PC or Mac®. Once transferred to your computer you can effortlessly upload your media to popular photo and video-sharing websites such as Photobucket® and YouTubeTM. (Compatible PC with Internet connectivity required)
  • Self-Portrait Timer
Self-Portrait Timer helps take the guesswork out of self portraits by utilizing Face Detection technology to recognize when your face enters the frame. Once the camera detects your face, it triggers a 2-second timer, and then snaps a picture
  • BIONZ® Image Processor
The BIONZ® image processor delivers the high resolution and fast performance you expect from a Sony® digital camera. Fast processing enables unique Sony features such as Sweep Panorama, Handheld Twilight, Antimotion Blur, HDR, etc to take and combine multiple images in less than a second to create wide panoramic images. Images have reduced grain and appear less washed out
  • Intelligent Auto (iAUTO) mode
Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAUTO) mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, and faces, and adjusts settings resulting in clearer images, faces with more natural skin tone, and less blur. By incorporating advanced features such as Intelligent Scene Recognition, Face Detection technology, and Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization, iAUTO mode lets you take advantage of the latest Sony® Cyber-shot® technology without leaving auto mode. Whether you’re shooting landscapes, capturing a beautiful flower, or taking pictures at an in-door birthday party or wedding shower, iAUTO mode will optimize your camera’s settings to help ensure you come away with a great shot
  • Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode
Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects nine different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, and Close Focus. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep
  • Anti-blink Function
It’s frustrating to think you’ve captured that perfect shot, only to review it later and discover one of your subjects blinked just as you pressed the shutter. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot
  • Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically compensates to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality
  • High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200)
High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to seven ISO settings (Auto, 125, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions
  • Face Detection technology
Sony’s Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
  • Motion Detection
Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces
  • Smile Shutter™ technology
Smile Shutter™ technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter™ button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can be used together with Smile Shutter™ mode. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting
  • Scene modes
The DSC-TX5 features 12 convenient scene modes: High Sensitivity / Twilight / Twilight Portrait / Portrait / Landscape / Beach / Snow / Fireworks / High Speed Shutter / Underwater / Gourmet / Pet
  • Intelligent AF
Thanks to Intelligent AF technology, capture fleeting moments like a child’s adorable expression with the ultra-quick AF which locks focus in as little as 0.3-sec
  • Easy Shooting Mode
With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing you to focus on just your subject. Ok well Im not one of those people who is concerned about the ISO and whatever else, I am 20 years old and have been wanting a digital camera for awhile but waited seriously years for the right one. When I looked for "waterproof" cameras a year or so back they were big bulky and not what I wanted, or in the case for Sony, they had water proof housing for your product. So when I saw this i was immediately sold, very sleek looks normal but its waterproof. When i got it i was shocked, I immediately ran it under water, dropped it, froze it, and stuck it in the bag less vacuum bucket, and of course it worked! :) All my friends and family all freaked out when I said look how easy it is to clean it and dropped it in water! Anyways, it takes phenomenal pictures in low light conditions, even better and more crisp pictures in the day time. this camera is highly recommended. Terrific in the pool with movies and sound, the touch screen is like the touch screens on modern cell phones. Its hard plastic i guess not the soft screen Sony used to ship about a year ago that when u touched it it pixelated where you touched. The pictures shown are just of a cat up close and underwater at a pool, just little examples. Highly recommended guaranteed not a disappointed unless your like a professional photographer then you'd probably complain about it, but for us normal people who like to have fun with pictures and can pretty much use it anywhere, then this is it!

I bought this camera and loved everything about it. Takes great pictures (day or night), cool fun options and will fit into a pocket no problem. The second day myself and the family went to the pool. Everyone playing, taking pictures and my son spraying everyone with water hose. The camera was in the water for about 3 minutes barely submerged. long story short I seen the LCD touch screen had water inside. I let it sit on a towel and called Sony. Sony told me to ship it in (no cost) to get it repaired. If it cannot be repaired they will replace within 2 weeks. This is not an acceptable option for me. First of all this camera is 2 days old and already having issues. If I wanted a refurbished camera I would have purchased one. Second my wife and I are expecting any day. I DON"T HAVE TWO WEEKS!!!! Luckily I took the camera back to the store and they gave me a refund! I have always bought Sony camera's and had good luck with them but I will not purchase another TX5 and Truly debating on leaving Sony as a customer because of their warranty policy. Good Luck hope this helps!
P.S. the manual is on a disc. instead of a book ANNOYING!!

Comments about Sony Pink Cyber-Shot 10.2 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I really like everything about this camera, but don't count on using it for much more than a year. I have had a T300 and a TX5 in the last three years, and they both turned into vibrating paperweights. So it works out to several hundred dollars a year. Kind of like a car lease--you keep up with the new features, but don't think you end up owning anything for the money. I guess my next move is to buy a TX10 and use it for a year or so before it craps out.

Cool camera, but if you decide to get it, make sure you get the extended warranty. I didn't use it very much, and it doesn't work only a year later.

Comments about Sony Pink Cyber-Shot 10.2 Megapixel Digital Camera:

The TX5 model is an excellent camera! I use it for traveling and get excllent high quality pictures with a compact size digital camera. it's important to me that i have a rugged device that I can use on treks. the waterproof feature is a must when traveling. i use it while snorkeling. while other travelers have to hide their camera during a storm or water activity, i can proudly bring my camera out for great pictures. it also has HD video which makes for good memories. i use the touch screen feature to right notes on the pictures so i can remember the name of a sight or special info about the places i visit. Sony cameras have quick shutter speed and capture shots even while on a moving vehicle. these are two of the main reason why i stick to Sony. travel memories are too precious to risk missing because of a slow device.

Comments about Sony Pink Cyber-Shot 10.2 Megapixel Digital Camera:

This camera was an ok purchase if I just wanted to take pictures not in the water. If you take pictures with it in the pool or beach be very careful the battery door can come open and damage the camera instantly...Also, the screen needs to be protected by something and a hard case around the camera is needed so the battery door does not slip open in the water and ruins the camera IMO...

Comments about Sony Pink Cyber-Shot 10.2 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I've had the TX5 for a year now. After my second trip to the beach, water got underneath the paint, bubbled up, and chipped off. The warranty does not cover this. The only thing the warranty will cover is a manufacturer problem. If anything happens to your charger, battery, cord, the paint job, or anything else that can possibly go wrong after you purchase the camera, the warranty will not cover it. Water has also gotten underneath the LCD screen, but the touch screen still works, it's just annoying. The lens is in a bad place. For example, people who use my camera for the first time always naturally want to hold the camera right where the lens is located, thus putting their finger in the photo... but, the camera has a lot of setting options, takes good pictures, and great videos! The TX5 goes with me where ever I go! I LOVE the panoramic view option! That is so cool.

At first, the camera was working fine but, the paint started to chip after a couple weeks. After sending it in, the paint chipped once again as well as water damaging the camera and making it unusable. Overall, the camera starts out fine but will break.. I do not recommend it.

I can't think of a single thing that I don't like about this camera. I bought it for a trip to Thailand, only bought a waterproof camera so that I'd feel comfortable operating it near water...not for the purpose of taking underwater pictures. Well it takes great pictures, both above and below water. I'm so glad I chose it, I went snorkeling in Thailand and got AMAZING shots and videos too! Everybody there loved my camera and pictures so much, I have picked up one for my sister-in-law and sent it to her in Baltimore, and one for my brother-in-law and sent it to him in Singapore. I bought it at an outlet store for $180, so it was well worth the money, but it would have been worth the $300 I originally expected to pay. Tip: Buy a floating camera strap just for peace of mind in case you drop it into a body of water.
Really...camera is great all-around. The touch screen even works awesome, including underwater. I should do commercials for Sony because I love this camera! Check out my 2 sample pics, one above water, one below water.

I've got this camera from my mom for Christmas gift last december 2010. The picture quality, video, panorama pics are great. I submerge it into the sea to test if the camera is water proof, and it works. Last april, I was on the vacation with my friends in the Philippines, then I submerge it into the fresh water. After 30mins the cover lens was peeled (a little bit)( it was located in the corner of the cover lens) and I was so disappointed after I saw it. But anyways, the camera was functioning well and I love it especially the isweep & Hand-held TW.
