So, I got home from work today, at 6:00, to notice that the brand new Sony HTiB system had arrived at my door. After lugging it inside, and ordering a pizza, I had managed to remove the previous Sony HTiB from my setup (Some sort of STR model receiver from back in 2003-ish). Thing one that's fantastic: Color coding on the wires. I hate how I always get confused. Now, the plugs are definitely Sony-specific, meaning you're going to have to replace the cheap plastic plugs if you manage to chew on them, or tear them out or something, but hey - until then, you will know that the red wire goes in the red plug. Sweet. Thing two: S-Air. I was really apprehensive about RF speakers, especially since my last foray into the arena was in like...1999 with a set of wireless RF headphones that had a range of like 20 feet that I used for internet gaming way back in the day. Don't worry. Sony's got you covered. In my noisy apartment, with two separate networks, people above, below and around, and significant transmissions from the military base literally across the fence from me, there was nary a peep of interference. Also: Calibration of the system was a snap with the use of the provided calibration microphone - always the right way to fine-tune your speakers, and it's nice to see Sony taking the time to do the job right. Hey, so finally, Blu-Ray time. Load times are perfectly in line with what you'd expect, and the picture and sound quality are, as always, exactly what you'd expect from a Sony electronics product: great. But, for me, where this really shines is the internet connection, and ability to link up with services like Netflix. Here, the ability to stream HD content is not only amazing and wonderful, but it's seamlessly integrated into the operating system, and configuration is again, relatively easy, once you find the menus, which could be an area for improvement, as you could definitely integrate wired/wireless setup into the quick start program. But at the end of the day, you're getting Sony's midrange system, and as a person who really enjoys watching movies in a dark room with some popcorn, I'm really excited to add this onto my wall shelf. Plus, it got rid of a box, because the blu-ray player is integrated with the receiver, and the subwoofer's also powered off the receiver, so it's using two fewer spaces on my power strip. What's not to love?

Purchased system based on it's ability too stream content from home network. After using the unit for some two weeks it is evident that it supports only a few video formats for streaming, one of them is not avi files. The sound quality is quite impressive, however the base gets too be a bit much at times and have not researched a way to reduce its level. The presets for audio are limited, compared too our old Sony system, of course the old system was a surround / receiver unit without a disk player. Unless you are sitting in a pitch black room, the display on the front of the unit is very dim even after setting it to it's brightest setting. I have registered the product three times now and each time I return to the site for support it doesn't show up. I have tried repeatedly too register the product for backstage pass, extended support etc., movies on demand, the web site tells me that this option could take 12 hrs to set up, well after two weeks I would expect it would happen, NOT! I can do without the movies on demand option however it just bothers me when something won't perform as advertised. As for the Blu Ray player, playback is smooth with crisp picture quality even while pausing. The front controls are not lit and I find myself fumbling around with them trying to choose options, the only one I can accomplish without great difficulty is eject / load, forget trying to navigate the onscreen display with these unless you put them too memory using the manual. All in all I / we enjoy the unit and are pleased with our purchase, just that we thought there would be more control over the audio portion.

      After the PS3, greatly dissappointed

      By AkashaD

Comments about Sony Blu-Ray Disc Player Home Entertainment System:

This was our first Home Theater System. It was simple to setup and plays Blue Ray and DVD files beautifully. but that's where the good part ends. It won't read half the files it claims to. Most times it can;'t talk to the Sony servers to get its own updates (which always eem to be a problem). Does not recognize the other Sony devices I have or any other for that matter. And then the final blow. I bought a Sony Universal Remote hoping to at least get it to work with that and guess what/ Sony doesn't even have a code for this device to add it to others. Before buying a Sony Home Theater System think about it 3 times and then buy something else.

Comments about Sony Blu-Ray Disc Player Home Entertainment System:

This unit was fairly simple to setup including so-called wireless speakers. No glitches other than wireless receiver for broadband must be placed up high which means it's visible. Picture is outstanding for our TV. Sound is pretty good but the downside is limited sound mode options! The biggest downfall of this unit is, I bought this for network streaming but with limited file formats, it will not accept AVI or VOB files.

This is not a true wireless rear speaker unit

            Best Uses

Comments about Sony Blu-Ray Disc Player Home Entertainment System:

After searching online for a home entertainment system that had wireless rear speakers and internet connectivity to download movies from sites like NetFlicks I found the BVD-E770W which had ever what I was looking for especially in price. After setting everything up ( connecting to internet was a little difficult which I believe was because of the location of the wireless speaker system) That has been resolved but the issue with having rear wireless speaker is still nagging me. After pairing the speakers and other configuration I was not able to get sound out of the speakers. I finally called support and he walked me through some troubleshooting steps only to come to the conclusion that I had not wired my speakers from the wireless unit to the rear speakers. They explained the the unit that comes with the system (S-Air) is what makes the speakers wireless meaning the S-Air unit is wireless to the Blu-Ray player. From the S-Air system you have to run wires that are color coordinated that come with the package to the rear speakers to get them to work. If this isn't false advertising I don't know what is. Come on Sony with a name as big as your's how can you miss lead consumers. This is just wrong. Your support help even apologized for your false advertising. Just tell me why you lied to the consumers.

One of the reasons I bought this was because of the dnla function. I failed to read the reviews about it not playing avi files. I am playing them with a sony playstation and just figured that it would play the same files. I was wrong this is why I cant give it a five star. I hope that sony will upgrade firmware to support this. I read a review that someone else dislikes this too but has not contacted sony about evryone sould contact them if they expect to have it changed

The sound is good. The wireless connection to surround speakers is good (no problems at all). The WiFi does not connect well - access point is 20'-25' away in another room. Does not come with HDMI to TV. Unit is sleek with a few almost hidden buttons - remote has about 40-50 buttons. So far it is not easy to figure-out or switch between FM/DVD/Cable. I am guessing that it won't get used by the intended used unless I am there to show how to get it going.

Comments about Sony Blu-Ray Disc Player Home Entertainment System:

Purchased this sound system for my SONY Bravia 55HX800 television (which has poor speaker system). This is a big improvment over the TV speakers. Set up was relatively easy. I wish the sub woofer was wireless so it could be moved to less visible spot. All of the speakers end up looking a lilttle messy, but the sound is worth it. I think that the price is a bit high (paid $499 on sale), but it really is a nice system, which includes a blue ray player, with Wireless LAN adapter.

The wireless rear speakers work great and I am using the wireless USB dongle to connect to the internet to access the preset websites like Pandora, Netflix etc. I was scared with some reviews complaining about the set up of the system and downloading the software update causing the system to hang up and virtually non-functional. However, my set up experience was very good. Just followed the quick set up guide and the owners manual, downloaded the required software update and i was good to go. The biggest drawback of this system is the HDMI connection. It only has one HDMI (OUT) port. Compared to its competitors like Samsung 5.2. channel A/V systems that have 2 or more HDMI ports.

I hit it big @ the casino and had been wanting a home theatre system. As soon as I got home from casino, I went to Sony Style store and and two options for home theatre system that had wireless (S-air) rear speakers. I selected this system. I'm slightly technology challenged, but hooked up the system - updated via internet, went though the speaker calibration, and could NOT figure out how to get sound. I gave up for a couple of hours then came back to try again. Have no idea what I did (or didn't do,) but did get it to work, but kept getting an echo - then realized I had to totally turn the TV speakers down and use just the speakers on home theatre - duh! We love it. Of course I had to go and get a bigger NEW sony tv (60"). Now I feel like I'm at the theatre.
