The frig is really well made and very sturdy. It maintains temperatures in both the frig and freezer perfectly. The ice maker makes ice continuously and dumps ice several times per hour untill full 6 cubes at a time. We originally purchased a Whirlpool almost identical to the Kitchenaid and had problems with crisper shelf falling off the mounting tabs, and the ice maker jammed several times and dropped ice all over the floor. Everything about the Kitchenaid is made better and works flawlessly!

Comments about KitchenAid KFIS27CXBL Black Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator:
So, this one of the worst Refrigerators I have ever come across. From the outside with all the bells and whistles you would think this appliance would be awesome. The ice maker has been replaced 3 times and now needs to be replaced again. Now the fan motor has gone out and the leaking also has occurred had to get the kitchen floors replaced. The leaking valve also needs to be replaced again. Why they haven't done a total recall on this machine I have no idea. For something this expensive you should and would expect better. Stay far away from the Kitchen Aid brand that has any type of fancy displays to it. Maybe they should just stick to a basic refrigerator because they obviously didn't know what they were doing when this was built.

I had problems with water leaking, and now the ice maker stopped working.
WATER LEAKS ON THE FLOOR!!!
from Braselton GA
There is a defect in the drain hole so the whole freezer bottom fills with a thick sheet of ice, then leaks all over the floor. Took me some time to understand what was going on, so now have cabinets that are rotted in between the 2 that we bought, along with floor issues that now need to get fixed!!

This fridge is unreliable and extremely expensive to maintain. Within 8 months we replaced multiple parts including the ice dispenser only to have everything stop working again less than 8 months later.
energy efficient and practical

This is our second kitchenaid refrigerator and we have loved them both. We like the energy efficient , and the movable shelves so you can customize it to your own needs. As one who cooks from scratch everything. I appreciate a great workable appliance.

This refrigerator is now 3yrs old and already had to take care of 2 problems. Plus I find the warranty is not that great on most parts that are going to go on it first? (Relay switch)....First repair for the drainage problem to replace the drainage hose. KitchenAid did mail the part no charge but I had to install this myself.. Then recently a clicking sound and had a service technician $100. later to inform my fridge is ok? Apparently you must clean your bottom coils and the back of the fridge remove the panel and vacuum all the dust. Or else your compressor will over heat causing your relay switch to break.... He recommended do this once a year..Plus you should invest in a Coil brush through an appliance store or places like Home Depot (ProClean Appliance Brush)

I love this refrigerator! I love all my KitchenAid appliances! Keeps everything so cold...Looks great in my kitchen!
generally pretty good
I can't give it 5 stars because it's had some issues, freezer drain clogging and causing a leak (it had a design flaw that according to the repair guy KA pays for the redesigned part but not the fee to replace it. it also randomly shoots ice cubes out of the dispenser onto our floor. Even the repair guy said he's never seen anything like it. Said it's probably because a cube get caught then melts and falls out but it happens so frequently that I still view it as a design flaw of some sort. Our dogs love it though. On the pros it fits an amazing amount of food and is very versatile. The bottom freezer looks small but you can fit a ton in it. Looks and styling are very nice and other than the ice cube issue the dispenser has a ton of options with the digital screen works well.

Great Fridge Apart From One Design Flaw
By Kevin S
from Vancouver, BC, Canada
Purchased this model three years ago and was very happy with performance until recently, when started having the same issues described by other reviewers - namely slab of ice forming continuously on the freezer bottom until it stopped the freezer drawer from closing properly and meltwater started leaking out onto our kitchen floor. From research online, it seemed this was a common problem with this model series and was due to a poorly designed drain outlet at the rear of the fridge that becomes clogged over time.Phoned the KitchenAid/Whirlpool support line and they were quite helpful. At no charge, they mailed me a replacement part (a P-Trap Drain Tube Kit) for the problem drain outlet. The support line guy told me that if the problem had occurred in the first two years after purchase, then KitchenAid would also have paid the labour costs for someone to come and install it on the fridge. So I ended up doing the part replacement myself with the help of an easy-to-find YouTube DIY video. Not really that difficult and I wouldn't really call myself a handyman. Three months later and no further incidents of ice forming on the freezer bottom.
