The first few days I was emptying the bucket twice per day. Now it's every day or two. Does a great job of sucking the water out of the air and bringing the humidity down. The only problem is that it emits warm air and heats up my basement, which is not helpful in the summer.

I've owned this for about 3 weeks now. I purchased to keep my below-grade basement dry. The duct work for my central air runs through the ceiling of my garage and workshop which is a medium sized area (all told, a little bigger than a two-car garage on its own). I had a cheap 45 pint unit before and it just couldn't keep up and the duct work always had condensation on it. That unit croaked after 3 years probably from being overworked. This unit however dried the area out after running just a single night and has been able to easily keep on top of it since. The driest it has ever felt down there. It is fairly quiet and looks nice sitting in the corner. I especially like that you can not only set the desired humidity level digitally (instead of a knob) but the control also tells you what the current moisture/humidity level is in the room as it is running... very cool.

Excellent product at removing high humidty from the summertime basement. Easy to use , fairly quite, filter is very easy to remove and wash. One draw back is the water tank, cannot be cleaned unless you unscrew the splash guard plate. Mold has a tendency to build in the nooks and crannies of the tank. Every time I empty the tank now I put in a small amount of bleach to stop the mold growth. Purchased in April 2011 so it doing a great job into July.

I've never had a dehumidifier before so I had to heavily rely on customer reviews. This seemed to be the most popular with good reviews for those who used a direct hose drain method. I was surprised that it took only 2 days to bring the whole basement down to a decent humidity level and the damp smell is gone! The unit is loud. I could not watch a movie even if it were the most remote part of the completely open basement. But to me, it's more important that dehumidifiers last beyond 3-4 yrs since that seems to be the biggest problem with this type of equipment. Only after 3 yrs will I be able to truly recommend this product for its long term reliability. I expect everything to work in the first year. Don't we all? To be safe, I bought the extended warranty to ensure there is no problem for the next 4 yrs.

I purchased two (2) of these FAD704TDP dehumidifiers to replace two [...] Kenmore units of the same 70 pint capacity - - both of which failed within 18 months. So far,I am extremely pleased with these new Frigidaire units. They operate much more quietly, are very easy to set up, and most importantly really do pull 70 pints of water daily as rated. I would add that they're both used in basement environments where excess humidity is customarily a primary issue. The overall quality of the unit appears to be far superior to my former [...] and Whirlpool units, despite the fact that they're manufactured in[*] - (as are virtually all other brands).Having experienced very disappointing reliability with previous brands of dehumidifiers, it of course remains to be seen if the Frigidaire FAD704TDP units will continue to function satisfactorily for a considerably longer time than a year or two. But so far, they're both functioning flawlessly.Kudos to ABT for offering a fine product at a competitive price,[...]

Nicely made and worked right out of the box. Didn't neet to read the instruction booklet; it's that simple. Only care is when you are emptying the bucket, you will spill water on the floor since there is no way of preventing water from coming out of one section only. Not bad to do, just requires some care.

Verifying the humidity level indicated on this dehumidifier with a couple of gauges, it stays within 4 or 5%. I have it in my bedroom, primarily to help maintain the right humidity level for some guitars. It's fairly noisy, especially when it comes on or shuts off, but turning it off at bedtime takes care of that problem, and the humidity level doesn't increase dramatically overnight, especially if you have the a/c on.

We live in a 3 year old ranch with a fairly large full basement, about 2000 square feet. We noticed excesive moisture and an "old basement" smell midway through the summer. It turns out that our basement was registering humidity levels of 65% in some areas which was providing ideal conditions for the onset of a mold problem. We bought this dehumidifier from ABT and have been very pleased. After only a few days of use, the damp "old basement" smell was gone and it felt much more comfortable down there. Now, after 3 weeks of use the basement is down to a humidity level of 35%. What a difference. The problem I had in determining which dehumidifier to purchase stemed from the bad reviews most of them got when I researched them online. For every good review, there seemed to be a disclaimer that the dehumidifier only worked for 1-2 years befored pittering out. At 200-300 dollars, I wanted a product that was going to last much longer than that.In the end, I chose this model because most of the reviews I found for it were generally positive. More importantly, I went with ABT and their extended service plan because of their reputation here in the Chicagoland area. For a very small fee, ABT's extended service plan gave me the peace of mind that I would get at leaset 4 years out of this appliance. When ABT says that they will repair or replae any product under their service plan, no questions asked, I believe them. This dehumidifier joins the following list of appliances we have bought from ABT in our new home: refrigerator, microwave, washer, dryer, and TV. In my family's opinion, you can't beat their [...]rarely can you beat their prices!!

I use this in a very damp basement and it works great. It took the humidity (as read on the unit) from 70% to 40% in 1-2 days, and you can feel the difference. I have had it on constantly since mid-August, 2010 with no worries. The unit cycles off when the programmed humidity level is reached, which is great because it's not on all the time. It's positioned above a sink in the basement with an old garden hose connected to the drain. No leaks once the hose is on tight. On high the unit is no louder than an A/C on low setting. But, it's in a basement so sound is not an issue for me. The only drawback is that when the unit is positioned high for drainage, you can't see the screen to set it easily (and it's fairly heavy to lift up and down). I'd give it five stars if it came with a remote. But, no complaints. It works.

I bought my first about 6 months ago, then my second about 3 months ago, and now with the price nearing [$] I'm going to buy another. They work great. I've done a lot of research, and this is the best value unit I've found to date. Con's- you have to buy a water hose to allow it to automatically drain. Otherwise you'll have to keep dumping the water tray, which fills about once a day, this thing is powerful. Most water hoses today have a large plastic tightener, these will NOT fit into the opening on the dehumidifier. You must find the old style, all metal type. I recommend buying a 6 foot leader hose with a spring at the end, to prevent the hose from collapsing over time. Run the hose directly into your sump hole, add an extender water hose if needed. The nozzle where you connect the hose is difficult to align properly, really take your time and align it property before you try to tighten it. Must be perfectly level. Cleaning- very easy to do, but you must do it. These things attract mold/mildew like nothing else. At least once a month, follow the directions and clean the filter, hoses and water pan if using it. A little bleach will kill all the mold. Highly recommended!

We have a 115 year old home with a finished basement and a stone foundation. This humidifier does a great job of getting the dampness out. It is much quieter and pulls far more water than our 30 year old hand me down. At first we emptied the container 3 times a day, that has gone down to once a day now that the space is dryer. It does generate a fair amount of heat( as does any dehumifier). Maybe it is just more noticeable with this unit because of it's larger capacity.

The unit works perfect. You can see the results right away. The only problem I found was in the instructions where they tell you how to attach the hose for drainage instead of the tank, they forgot to mention something really important and basic. If you do this, "Make sure the dehumidifier is at a higher level than where the hose will drain". For example, if you keep the dehumidifier on the floor, do not try to drain it on the sink.

This is our first dehumidifier, but so far it's working great. This is our first summer in our new home, and our first experience with the basement dampness issue. I noticed a HUGE difference in our large finished basement within an hour or two of starting this up. I let it run continuously for several days, then set it to run based on a % humidity level. So far it's been a few weeks and it's still working great. I was planning to connect a hose, but so far the bucket has been easy to empty so I haven't gotten around to the hose yet. It has really made a huge difference in the liveability of our basement area - what used to be cold and damp and musty is now warm and dry, and much less musty. My only concern is about longevity, based on reviews elsewhere, but that seemed to be an issue with all brands, so I simply added the extended warranty just in case. Definitely recommended.
