Product itself seems good. Cools my dining room, living room, entry way and gallery (960 sq feet of open area without doors) in about 1 hr. Is a bit noisy. Installation was a nightmare. Two experienced installers had trouble because 1) directions and diagrams were so bad 2) screws were not labeled well and did not fit properly. We had to find our own screws.

I live in a 1,200 square foot condo that is rather long and oddly shaped, and I was very pleasantly surprised how well this AC cooled my whole unit.

The first unit I ordered required an electrical outlet that I did not have (my mistake). Abt was great about exchanging the unit for another one without charging another delivery or installation charge.

Cools the room fast.
The only instructions are for permanent window mounting. No instructions for mounting the unit if you desire to remove it during the winter season. Unit is very heavy. There is some work required this is not an easy install. I recommend this product with caution because of the instructions and installation.

Purchased the unit last year and it has been a consistent performer especially on 90+ degree days where smaller units can really struggle in larger rooms. The real appeal is the 15K btu power capacity that runs off a 115v outlet but beware that it needs to be connected to a 20 amp circuit that is preferably dedicated. Personally use it to keep 1/2 of my 1300 sqft. chicago apartment cool with smaller units dedicated for bedrooms. It is as loud as an other window unit which I have owned but once you feel its power as it quickly cools off a room, you will be glad you have it.

Because of its rapid cooling power, I only run it when I am home thus electric usage didnt result in any surprise electrical bills, however I should note that last year was a temperate Chicago summer.

With respect to installation, for a homeowner who is relatively handy and willing to read the manual, with a bit of patience the unit can be installed without much fuss. The unit is big and heavy but with the two piece design it is actually easier to install than smaller (10k-12k btus) but still heavy and unwieldy one piece units. .First you install the chassis (outside frame) which probably weighs 10 lbs,. Once the chassis is secured using supplied brackets in its window position, then you slide the innards which weigh 50lbs+. This alleviates much of the dangerous awkwardness associated with one piece units. Once you have done it, the second time is much easier.

If the install still intimidates you have ABT install it for you. The unit is worth it.

First off, you need to be an engineer to install this unit. Has a MAJOR design flaw in that the cooling vents point straight out of the unit, instead of being located at the top of the unit like all other air conditioners. Therefore, if you have the unit installed in your bedroom or living room, the cold air is pointed right at your head. Also b/c of this, it does not cool the room efficiently as the top of the room stays warm. Had to have a Abt tech come out to make sure it was working properly, as it takes a long time to cool a not so large room.

The air conditioner is fine, compact and has a relatively high capacity for being on 115V which was a requirement for my setup. It has easy to understand controls. My main problem was not selecting the air conditioner but getting it installed; a number of other firms had failed and Abt got it right. Thus I am pleased.

My particular installation (in an old attic with no window) was very complicated. The Abt installer was fantastic, creatively solving all of the problems that I faced, carefully explaining everything and just handling it perfectly. This was about as difficult an installation as it gets and the guy was just fantastic.
