I read the reviews for this flat beater and I personally never had any of these issues. I had my bowl-lift mixer for years now and i still have the original beater and it works wonderful it gets to the bottom of the bowl and is great at getting all the ingredients mixed together and is great with the Thickest of cookie doughs . I hand wash the beater with mild dish detergent and it still look like when I got it.

I have had three Kitchen Aide mixers. I upgraded to the professional 600 model, which works fine. I do not understand why your more expensive and heavy duty mixer does not come with dishwasher safe beaters and dough hooks however. I washed mine and they immediately discolored. Given that the accessories for the 41/2 quart model are all dishwasher safe, this seems like a clear design flaw.

Cheap parts

By

from New York

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I bake frequently and have older models of kitchenaid mixers. Ironically the oldest is 33 years old and pure like a kitten with all original parts. Even though it's smaller it has a durable good kraftsmanship beater. I decided to buy the newer larger model and was immediately weary of the light attachments with it's odd color finish. After one use I began to notice the paint transfer into my dough. I threw out a few batches before I finally just threw out the beater, I tossed the dough hook too. The new kitchen aid mixers can't hold a match to the older ones with better quality parts. Also the mixer is horrifically noisey. Considering in investing in a European brand mixer.

Disgusting Residue Straight out of Box

By

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I recently purchased this stand mixer (Professional 600 Bowl Lift Series) as a graduation gift to myself. First and foremost, the stand mixer was greasy, (I don't know if that is normal) when I pulled the lever down to let the bowl down, there was this big log of yellow grease between where it goes up and down (again, I don't know if this is normal. Now what really bothered me is the whip, power knead, and flat beater. Unboxing, none of those tools were shiny, it was already "oxidized" and disgusting gray residue was being left only hand, I did not get a chance to use my mixer yet because I just received it in the mail today. I will not use my mixer with these tools because I am very afraid that it may get into my mixes as it does my hand. This seems very unsanitary and it is just not tolerable AT ALL.

gross gray residue

By

from Painesville OH

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I've had my mixer since the early 90's. I use it alot lol. Over the years my white coated paddle beater attachment started chipping away. It was time for a replacement. I found this burnished paddle beater and thought no more chipping! Well, the trade off is gross gray residue. I threw out my batter the first time it happened (which is a bummer since I bake from scratch :( ). I have handwashed this thing a billion times. Sometimes you get gray residue sometimes you don't. It's a real pain in the you know what to have to repeatedly wash and dry your beater before use to make sure it doesn't leave gray residue. Please fix this!!!

Same complaints as everyone else

By

from Monett, MO

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I love my Kitchenaid mixer, but I hate this beater. After several washes, the shiny metal starts to disappear and the grey residue starts to appear. I had to throw this beater away after the last time I washed it because it was disgusting. My hands and the soapy sponge were a horrible grey color and I couldn't imagine using this for food anymore.

Grey residue - like everyone else

By

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

Like everyone else here, I have grey residue that came off all over my hands and continued to come as I went back to wash it some more thinking it would eventually quit. Tossed in the trash - this seems very unhealthy!

Plastic coated beater

By

from Greer,SC

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I have the plastic coated beaters. The plastic is chipping off the beaters. I would love to see stainless steel attachments. I love my mixers and use at least one daily.

this is disgusting

By

from Seattle, WA

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

I gave this one star because I can't go lower. I have had a Professional 5-qt mixer for years--decades actually. It came with a flat beater covered in a white silicon covering. After more than 20 years of pretty constant use, this began to flake off. I didn't want this in my food so went to the Kitchenaid site for a replacement. I decided to get the metal beater since it was recommended for heavier food, and I am a baker of artisanal breads. It seemed perfect. Unfortunately, just as soon as I washed it, it began putting a dark grey/black residue on my hands. I let it dry, and it still puts this on my hands. This is disgusting, and I just wasted my money. Given the quality of the mixer, this quite frankly amazes me. Now, I either have to use the whisk, the dough hook, or hand mix. I'm afraid to buy another.

Gray residue on flat beater

By

from Byron Center, Michigan

Comments about KitchenAid Burnished Flat Beater:

Like others are mentioning here, there is a disgusting gray residue that comes off on hands whenever touching this beater. There is no way I can actually use this beater to prepare food.
