This is the worst washer I have ever used! It doesn't get clothes very clean and it has a defective lid. The lid broke on the sides, causing it to not close/latch properly..therefore making it impossible to do a load of laundry, unless you place dumbbells on top of it to hold it down (like we have been doing) or you replace the lid for $200. This is a big problem for this model (just google it and you'll find plenty of pics and complaints of the same issue), however whirlpool refuses to recall the lid or offer a free replacement for it. I will. NEVER buy a whirlpool appliance again!! If a company doesn't stand by their product, it's probably not a very good product!

Whirlpool products fail easily - avoid the brand

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio WTW7800XB Black Top Loading Washer:
I purchased the Cabrio washer and dryer set a few years ago. Within 6 months of usage, the dryer had broken and the washing machine top hinges separated from the glass top. We thought we could live with the broken top, but the dryer simply didn't work. A local repairman came, and showed me that the dryer heating element was installed in a way that it was grounding out on other metal, and eventually failed (possible fire hazard?). I contacted Whirlpool and they denied the warranty repayment on the dryer. In the mean time, we had to jury rig the washing machine top, and for the last couple of years have been living with a broken top. Now that we have small children around, we think it's too dangerous to keep. So sad that a relatively new washer dryer pair failed so quickly and easily, and to repair them will cost me over $500. Not worth it considering that the glass top and hinges are designed to fail, and will fail again if repaired. Due to [lack of] customer service, I would say to totally avoid the brand. As an architect, we no longer specify Whirlpool in our apartment projects.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Whirlpool Cabrio WTW7800XL Lunar Silver Top Loading Washer:
Bought the washer and dryer for my wife because they looked and I thought "top of the line." Got rid of 30 year old Maytags that were working perfectly but using too much water and didn't have many features. Immediately noticed it does not clean my work clothes nearly as well and develops an odor if not maintained. Then, bearings went out after 4 years of moderate use. (I paid over 500.00 for repair person to install new bearings). Within a few months lid is now failed almost completely. Haven't found a washer that will match the Cabrio dryer. Feel like we need 2 new appliances. At 2500 purchase price for washer and dryer, 500 bearings, and now lid failed which I see is 250 more for one that will fail again, and less than 5 years of use, I feel boxed in with this machine. Not very happy.
I bought this washer less than 5 years ago. It is only used my me - not much laundry for a single person. When it was about 6 months old, it started making a horrible nose when agitating and spinning. A friend suggested it was "off balance." I called a repairman who told me the tub was off balance and was banging against the sides of the tub. He replaced the parts from which the basket hangs. Worked great for about a year and the same thing happened again! He came back replaced the parts which worked approximately 3 months and started the banging noise again!!! I called - he told me it would be too expensive to repair and that the bearings were going out. NOT HAPPY WITH THIS PURCHASE!!! Will not purchase another Whirlpool product.

Worst washer I've ever owned. Even though it is cleaned on a regular basis as recommended, it has an odor, leaves water standing in the soap dispenser, leaves grease & dirt in the soap dispenser, twists legs & sleeves of clothing, Would never buy another one.

Absolutely the worst design and build on the market. Three broken lids(cheap plastic hinge) in less than four years. The replacement lids cost more than $200 each so I am tossing this after replacing two. Will never buy Whirlpool again. Bad that it actually washed good, but the cheap lid has cost them a bundle...read the reviews

Very poor lid design
from Hattiesburg, MS
We purchased this product 4-5 years ago. We have had to replace the lid 3 times, due to the fact the plastic frame on the lid has cracked. I am not an engineer but it appears the glass insert is entirely too heavy for the plastic frame. This is obviously a design defect. Whirlpool has discontinued this machine and the reason why is obvious. The right thing for whirlpool to do is to design a replacement lid and offer it to those of us who purchased this product. I intend on pursuing Whirlpool for some sort of rebate or replacement machine, but understand that this effort will likely be futile. I have read dozens of complaints on line regarding this design/manufacturing defect concerning the lid, so it is obvious that Whirlpool is acutely aware of the issue. Unfortunately, it does not appear Whirlpool is concerned with making things right for its customers who purchased this flawed product. We will be purchasing a new washing machine, rather than another $200 replacement lid that will crack again. However, we will not be purchasing a Whirlpool product, either now or ever again.
Very poor design

We have had this washer for 4 years now, and the lid has broken 3 times. We have spent more for replacement lids than we paid for the washer, and Whirlpool refuses to offer any help or remedy. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again. They do not back up their products.
It's been a great washer, but the lid casing has cracked and nearly broken in half after only 5 years. A new lid is close to $250!!

washer works well enough but I am now changing the second lid in 4 years at $200 EACH
4 yr old machine washes well, but lid broke
Washes as advertised. No complaints there. However, lid broke at hinge in yr 4. Have seen many other similar complaints about the lid. Clearly a design flaw. Called customer service but Whirlpool would not replace lid or offer reduced price for replacement lid. Can't get a clear answer on whether replacement lid is an improved design or not.
