Needed to replace older sidekick with similar refridgerator. Space was limited due to overhead cabinets .These were the only ones that would fit this space.Would have had to remodel to have other brands fit.

After 6 years it finally started giving us problems, the motor still runs but the compressor is very hot and the refrigerator is room temp.

Purchased in 2005 for a new house with the Freezer match pair. Was not very impressed with the design from the outset. Poor defrost drain hose, in door shelving is weak plastics, defrost system failed twice, and now will not keep cold at all. Needs replacement. Being a industrial product design engineer, I see things other consumers do not. The wiring harness was installed too tight, electrical connectors under tension, coolant lines rubbing on each other, etc. This unit was not manufactured to last 20 years let alone 7.

My parents have owned this unit for over a year with the matching freezer. The resulting 60" wide side-by-side configuration with fantastic capacity is wonderful. When I went in to purchase my own set this year, my neighborhood salesman told me that he owns a set as well and has loved it for the last 4 years. Good job Whirlpool on the sidekicks line.

We (happily) installed this and the freezer that goes with it 4 years ago in our new custom home. We really like the idea of a separate refrigerator and freezer and find that very functional for our lifestyle. Recently it stopped cooling, and we've learned that there is a slow freon leak that would cost more to fix than the cost of the refrigerator, thus we have to replace it AND the freezer, since they are a matched pair. (The style has changed). The 'sealed system' was only warranted for 1 year, and Whirlpool was unwilling to talk or help do anything about it. There are other reviews on the internet that mention the exact same problem. So, although we were happy with the product's appearance and function initially, none of that makes any difference when it won't cool four years later and is out of warranty. A certified repair person told us it was very unusual for a refrigerator's condenser and coils not to be warranted for at least 5 years. If you decide to buy this product anyway, be sure to spend the extra money for an extended warranty.
