This review is only for installation and aesthetics. We have yet to use it as it is still cooling. We did have a professional appliance installation company install these units with the trim kit.Overall it did not seem like too hard a job to put together the trim set and slide the fridge and freezer into place. However, there was a bit of tweaking to get two separate boxes (the fridge & freezer) and trim kit to all look as one unit. Total time of install start to finish was close to two hours. Here are the various tweaks they had to make while installing:1. Needed to make their own levelers as the units did not have their own. (so, initially the units looked like they were leaning back)2. Lots of adjusting on doors to make sure they were even with one another and still level. Sort of a standard with any fridge install but a little tricker being two different units.3. The center trim kit that goes between the units was keeping the fridge from closing completely - need to assure spacing is accurate between both units from top to bottom. The main thing the installer left me with was that these are two separate units and only connected by a small plate at the top. So, it is possible that we may experience some movement when opening and closing the doors. It would seem that the design should be updated so that there is a bracket in the middle that connects both units. This way you would have a connection that runs the height of the unit keeping an even gap, creating more connection than just the small plate at the top, and would also provide a place to attach the center trim.Overall, it looks great and has met our expectations for the overall look in our kitchen. If you bought or are considering purchasing these items it is because you don't or can't spend 10k+ on a big sub-zero - I don't blame you. If they operate as good as they look, we will be very excited.I do have a small level of concern regarding the negative operational reviews but I'll see what happens with our units. Our cabinets were custom built for these units so it is not an easy change if these go belly up...but lets think positive. Once, my units get to temp and we can start using I will leave an operational review.

We (happily) installed this and the freezer that goes with it 4 years ago in our new custom home. We really like the idea of a separate refrigerator and freezer and find that very functional for our lifestyle. Recently it stopped cooling, and we've learned that there is a slow freon leak that would cost more to fix than the cost of the refrigerator, thus we have to replace it AND the freezer, since they are a matched pair. (The style has changed). The 'sealed system' was only warranted for 1 year, and Whirlpool was unwilling to talk or help do anything about it. There are other reviews on the internet that mention the exact same problem. So, although we were happy with the product's appearance and function initially, none of that makes any difference when it won't cool four years later and is out of warranty. A certified repair person told us it was very unusual for a refrigerator's condenser and coils not to be warranted for at least 5 years. If you decide to buy this product anyway, be sure to spend the extra money for an extended warranty.

WARNING Freon Leak
By Not impressed
Comments about Whirlpool Sidekick Stainless Refrigerator:
No stars. This fridge lasted less than 5 years and then had a freon leak, which I later learned is common among this as well as the newer models according to all reviews and searches including but not limited to whirlpools own site and BBB. The leak is in an area that is unreachable and therefore cannot be fixed. I have spent 100s of dollars in recharging the freon usually once every 6 months now. Replacing the same model was not an option because the newer version does not match the freezer portion. Some people have replaced the old door on the front to match the new model they had to purchase only to find that it fails in the same manner. Therefore, I would be stupid to purchase form whirlpool again knowing this reoccurring problem was not and has not been addressed by whirlpool itself in the newer model which continues to have this same freon leak. Whirlpool is aware of the issue and doesn't repair the problem. At this point I have no option but to choose a different brand as the area is custom built to fit. Frigidaire makes a version with no complaints. Unfortunately this option will cost me a tremendous amount of money as I will need to change all my appliances to Frididaire as I would prefer they match just as I did when I purchased all Whirlpool to begin with. Whirlpool has been contacted about this situation, with no solution to help resolve this issue. I will never purchase whirlpool or any other brand that is made by the company.

Nice refrigerator. Could have regular shelves on the door. The light went out and the plastic around it melted, but Abt is coming out to review this.

Extremely disappointed in life of this appliance
from Water Valley, Mississippi
In April of 2013 my husband and I purchased the Sidekick Refrigerator EL88TRRWS03 as well as a matching Freezer for our new home. We began to have problems with this refrigerator in August 2015 and to date, we have spent $872.05 on 4 different service calls by an authorized Whirlpool repairman to repair our refrigerator. Not only have we spend a large amount of money but during this time our refrigerator was being serviced we have been WITHOUT a refrigerator for a total of 100 days and it is now no longer working. We purchased the refrigerator and freezer units as a matching pair. The models have now been changed and in order for me to keep a matching pair, I now must replace BOTH units although the freezer continues to work fine. What is even more frustrating is that it appears from reading reviews on this site that this was a KNOWN problem with this appliance. In my opinion, Whirlpool has an obligation to make this right by the consumer. I am contacting the Better Business Bureau. I have had numerous Whirlpool appliances over the years and have always had very, very good service. I am so disappointed with this product.

This fridge cost over $1200 and didn't even last two years - coil broken. Repair will cost $605. Sounds like I've been ripped off. A brand new fridge should last 5 - 10 years without having to worry about it. What kind of useless warranty lasts 1 year, one that belongs to a company that builds products to last only one year and cannot afford to stand behind their garbage products. Fraudulent to operate under these pretences. Reading these reviews lets me know that my issue with the fridge breaking down is not an anomaly; there is a serious flaw with this product.

When we purchased our home and they had an older model Whirlpool, all refrigerator, which remained when we took possession. It lasted 10 years from new. We replaced it with a new Sidekick in April 2013. By October 2013 we had to replace it AGAIN! Luckily it was under warranty and replaced with another new one. It is now April 2016 and it has died again. I'm so disappointed in the reliability and quality of the product, especially one that cost over $1500 (CDN). I will replace it with another brand if I can find one that fits within our cabinetry.

We are really happy with the capacity of this refrigerator! We can put 3-4 pots of left-over food and sauces in it easily. This is very important to us because we have an older kitchen that doesn't fit deep and wide refrigerators. We bought a counter height/depth freezer for our meat and vegetables. This refrigerator looks sleek, and is very quite. I'm only disappointed that after nearly two years, the thermostat broke down and it is slightly freezing our milk and other liquids. Otherwise, when the refrigerator is working properly, it maintains our food at an impressive even temperature from top to bottom. Enjoy!

I bought the whirlpool sidekicks all refrigerator and all-freezer pair in August of 2008. Since i'm on my third fridge which is now broken too. I will be buying my forth fridge since 2008. It just stops cooling after about two years (coolant leak which is not fixable). Same with all of them. The freezer has been great, however you have to keep getting the same fridge if you want it to match the freezer. Now I'm going to bite the bullet and switch brands and buy a new fridge and freezer. I will never buy whirlpool again.

I bought a year ago - I like that it's spacious and fulfills the need of my huge family but just after 14 months I have had to service it where it's compressor stopped working and the gas leaked, so I'd advise to buy an extended warranty with it.
Have the matching freezer as well awesome pair tons of space and they look expensive as well!!!
