Our front loading washed broke. Sadly, the new stackable units are larger than the older models. Many of the new stackable W/Ds don't fit into our utility closet space. Our mom chose the GE model because of smaller footprint and the dryer is a vented one (did not want ductless). We washed the 1st load today and it came out clean.

PROS * Looks nice * Plenty of wash options * Cheery end-of-cycle signal CONS * Loud * Struggles to balance load for spinning * Most wash cycles are excessively long We purchased this washer because we needed a washer and dryer that would fit under our kitchen counters and we wanted the dryer to be vented. Those two requirements limited us to three brands/models. We opted for GE because one of the others was an obscure brand and the other, while a common brand, seemed rather dated with its mechanical timer knobs. So GE was the default choice, but we were okay with that because they look rather nice (they're in our kitchen, after all, so style and appearance are important), and because GE has made efforts recently to bring their appliance manufacturing back here to the U.S. That said, we found this washer to be "just okay". Our biggest complaint is that it's pretty loud, especially the drain cycle which, for some reason, it does a lot. The fill cycle is a bit loud, too. The wash cycle (when it's just tumbling) and the spin cycle are pretty quiet. With our previous washer, we could sit comfortably in the kitchen while it ran. With this GE washer, the noise is rather annoying even when we're in the next room. We also found that the washer often has difficulty balancing the load so that it can spin. This is especially true when there is less than a full load in the washer. It's somewhat better with a full load, but it still struggles sometimes. To compound the problem, the washer does a slow spin to try to distribute the clothes evenly so that it can spin. If it senses the load is out of balance, it runs the drain cycle, apparently to try to remove more water to help with the balance. But again, the drain cycle is quite loud, so you have to put up with the noise frequently until the washer can balance the load. On one of our first loads (half full) the washer did the slow spin/drain routine probably a dozen times or more until I finally turned it off to manually re-adjust the load. (Someone's going to say the washer isn't level, but it is, as near as can be determined when it's under a counter.) The washer has nine default wash cycles plus options to change the length of the wash cycle, the water temperature (for the wash cycle only - rinses are always in cold water), the spin speed, and whether you want an extra rinse. For several cycles, the total wash time is an hour or more. The Whites/Heavy Duty cycle, with an extra rinse, is an hour and a half. These seem excessively long. We generally use the Speed Wash cycle with cold water and an extra rinse - 40 minutes total. Hot water is not an option with the shorter cycles. So if you want to wash something in hot water, a longer wash cycle is required. As far as durability goes, it's too soon to tell. We've only had it for a few months. No problems yet, though. And I mentioned that GE has brought some of its appliance manufacturing back to the U.S. Kudos to them for that. That said, this washer is not among those. It is made in Korea, if that is important to you. It is to us, but, like I said, our options were limited. So would we recommend this washer? Probably not, mainly because of the noise and the difficulty the washer has with balancing a load. But apart from those two issues, the washer is otherwise pretty nice. And it looks good in our kitchen next to its matching dryer.

This is a fabulous washer. It does a great job and is so quiet. Now, I just need to get my dryer to sing like the washer. Love the tones rather than the buzzing of old.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The settings are minimal and its hard on clothes. I had a European brand that cleaned and offered better features. I purchased this washer when my thirteen year old washer went out because it was one of the only stacking option with a vented dryer in compact front loader size. The others are condensing dryers.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Have had our washer now for about 3 months, works like a charm! Small and compact to fit in our basement door, but does allow a good amount of clothing to be loaded. Only thing I would like differently is the sound of end of cycle and wish it was louder than it is so that we can hear it better.
Wonderful appliance. We really love it. Love the fact that it is energy saver.
front door visibility is great & easy to open.

I have had it only a short while, so far I am pleased.
Nice settings but the spin sounds dicey.

I bought this to replace the same model that had a catstrophic failure after three yrs. The spin cycle sounds dicey on this one so I am going to buy the insurance if the ball bearings are covered.

Question about water usage
from White Plains, NY, United States
I've only used it twice, so far, but this washer's results seem to be very satisfactory. I do have a question: one thing I've noticed in comparison to the washer it replaced, which was made in 2002, is that it seems to use hardly any water. In the first minute or so, with "Colors/Normal" dial setting, it seems to barely wet the clothes. During the wash cycle there seems to be no water shloshing about in contrast to my previous machine . Is this normal? If so, it's pretty impressive that it does it on so little water!

Have been using this since 2011 at our beach condo. Most of our clothes aren't grimy--just a little sand here and there...salt water and chlorine. But lots of towels! This washer is amazing for its size! Love the settings--typically use the quick cycle--30' and done! Alot of my friends complain about front loaders-i wipe the door and the rubber ring with a chamois after last cycle and leave door open for 15-30'. No mold, no odor after 4 years of use! Even had a 6 month renter twice. Loved it so much, i finally got the matching dryer this week! This little appliance made me a GE fan!
