About Me Practical
Comments about Pioneer Elite 7.1 Channel AV Home Theater Black Receiver:
When buying a new receiver, my intent was to upgrade to one with HDMI (yes, my Yamaha was that old) and I wanted to run a second outdoor patio HDTV for those game day get-togethers. Instead of messing around with a separate $100+ HDMI splitter, for the same price I could go with the VSX 33 which had 2 HDMI outs. Not to mention the endless amount of features it had in addition. I wanted quality large speaker terminals like the old better built units have.Set up was fairly simple, other than the HDCP errors I was getting initially when I connected to my TV. After some frustration, i found it was due to a bad HDMI cable- whew! I have a 60" plasma inside, and a 37" LCD on the patio. I ran HDMI from the 2nd output to the patio set, and already had a pair of D.T. in-ceilings out there. Shockingly, everything worked awesome the first time! For ease of use, I used the automatic speaker set up and mic that came with the unit. I was surprised at what a great job it did and had no need to change anything with it.I haven't scratched the surface yet with the features this unit has. My biggest complaint so far is to use the A/B speakers you have to push the speaker button on the front of the unit as there is no button on the remote for this (unless I am overlooking it). Someday, I'll figure out all of the different options as everything seems to be customizable. The midnight mode (probably has to be customized) doesnt cut the bass down like my old unit and I have yet to figure out how to normalize everything to cut down on those obnoxiously loud ads on some channels. The sound during my blurays is INCREDIBLE! I will be upgrading my speakers cause I know I am not taking advantage of this unit's power with what I have. All in all, Im very pleased. The manual doesnt do too bad of a job explaining features, its more a matter of me figuring out how to use them. Lots of nice options for multi room systems. I wish I could figure out how to show my satellite TV but have the radio audio on. This was pretty easy with my old receiver but now I cant get both. This unit has more than I will probably ever use, but its nice to know I have it if I need or want it.This unit probably gets five stars when I get educated enough to customize some features and figure out its true capability.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
