I have a NEX 5K for a year now. Purchased an extra battery soon after getting the camera. Just returned from 3 week in Africa and prior to leaving purchased another battery. This gave me 2 while on game drives and one back in camp charging. Most of the time, the battery lasted for 8 hours of of the 2 game drives. Only twice did I have to swap batteries during a game drive. No power at night to charge the batteries. Most of my photography is stills not movies. No matter what camera you own, digital photography uses battery power. One should have no less than 2 batteries to insure you have power during your days picture taking.

A full charged battery only capable for 1 hour HD video shoot. In advance, video were shot continuosly for 30 min and showed overheated warning and shut off.

It's the same battery that came with the camera and I haven't had any issues with short life. I bought this as a second battery for when I travel or backpack, but I rarely ever go below 50% on a charge, so I probably would have been fine without it. I've even done some time lapse shots, and the camera will outlast my phone, which I use as a remote control trigger, but I suppose that's not saying much.

I bought my NEX-7 with an extra Sony battery. The batteries took about 4 hours to charge. I used the camera to shoot pictures out the window of the train from New York to Washington DC (about a 3.5 hr ride). By the time we got to DC the first battery was dead. I plugged it in to recharge in the hotel and we went out to lunch and to walk around tourist sites. by the time I got back to the hotel for dinner in the early evening, the 2nd battery was dead on about 200-250 shots (across both batteries). The battery is rated at 430 shots (CIPA) but in a month of shooting I've typically experienced about a quarter of that. Genuine Sony batteries cost about $50 - so carrying 3 of them is ridiculous. Neither my Nikon D300 nor my Canon G9 suffers from such ridiculously short battery life nor takes as long to charge.

i am only writing to warn people to pre charge batteries before first use. i dont know if some people do or do not do this but all batteries should be charged to its optimal level before the first use this is important to overall batter life, and charge capacitance. some people forget and have complained that the batter is useless or terrible. IF you do this first and the batter is still not up to its optimal level then you can complain.

First, let's cut to the chase. This battery at first will be pathetic. It will only give you 40 to 50 shots. You have to use the battery for several weeks before it "burns in" and reach 200-300 shots per charge. Used this battery for a year now. Still no capacity loss. People who reviewed this battery, didn't use it long enough. Shame.

This has to be the worst camera battery I have ever owned. I would never buy this camera again because of the battery life. What is the point of selling a $600.00 camera with a useless battery. If I buy an extra battery, that extra won't hold a charge. So what do you do when you need to use your camera for 2 hours? Take your Kodak.
