I got this to replace a Panasonic DVD recorder, and it was much simpler to set up and is easier to operate, especially the record and finalize functions.The only negative I have, so far, is that it makes an audible clicking noise when playing music CDs, though not on DVDs. I thought this was a defect, but was assured by techs that it is normal, even though it shouldn't be and is not common on any of the DVD or CD players I've owned. Annoying, but not so much that I would return the unit. I hope at some point Toshiba offers a firmware update to correct it.

I thought I had done my research and a technician said to wire "backwards" and use the tv tuner. Doesn't work that way. Without a cable box or external tuner you can only play a recorded DVD.

This unit does not record directly from TV . It has not tuner built in. YOu pay extra for nothing. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS if you are planning to record directly from TV.

Use for transfering cable box recording to DVD for later home use viewing. The recording quality is very good. The reomote lacks an intuitive quick recording menu.
