Love this receiver. I think it is so great how yamaha has updated the iPhone app and firmware often to keep all of this current.

Where's my manual?
This is a very good receiver. But after spending over $1,000 to get a top-notch system, I expect at the very least A PRINTED MANUAL in the box. I challenge Yamaha to produce one and send it to all customers who bought a 2000. We deserve it. There really is no excuse. The CD version is virtually useless when you're trying to tweak your 2000. Don't tell me to print the manual and put it in a 3-ring binder. Not after I spend over a grand. This might seem trivial, but when you try to use some of the very many features of this unit, YOU NEED A MANUAL TO REFER TO. I'm very unhappy about this, and I won't buy another Yamaha anything as a result. Consider this, Yamaha: You put all funding into great engineering and product design. Then for lack of a manual you make it virtually impossible for the customer to take advantage of the product. Now, DO THE RIGHT THING and PRINT MANUALS and SEND THEM TO US.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

About Me Power User
Excellent receiver. We are listeners of music--classical, ballroom dance, jazz. This receiver has a very pleasant sound from cd and dvd players when using an optical or digital input from a variety of players. The sound is transparent, clear, and enables the vocalization to be separated from the music. Comparing this receiver with straight rca inputs from a pioneer elite dvd f-07 player, the sound is far better than an old Dennon AVR it replaced. I'm talking about just the amplifier portion, "straight" through or pure direct. And the difference is not small. Even my wife's "walking" disks come alive and reveal background talk that you could not hear with the Dennon AVR! Using the optical input, I can hear no difference between the pioneer D/A plus filtering system and the Yamaha's 24 bit converters. The test disk used was Reference Recordings XLO test disk which contains some of the best recordings ever made (by Prof. Johnson). Track 13 is a non HDCD recording by Eileen Farrell of Stormy Weather. And the sound feeling is very good. However, that said, I connected my Marantz CD 5004 player that has Cirrus Logic D/A converters and its own filtering system (for a discussion of D/A and filtering refer to the DacMagic d/a converter literature from Cambridge Audio). The Marantz is a significant step above the Yamaha converters--you only need to listen to the sax in the beginning the immediately hear the difference. That said, all this equipment has its own sound that some may like or not like. We also have a Revox 225 CD player and it is tuned to sound more like a "tube" system than a solid state system, and it is 20 years old by still sounds superb. Gilding the Lilly would be to have assignable d/a converters and filters to each channel!!! But again, this review is from a critical listener. One more important point. We have Bose 901 and Bose AM 5 systems. The AM 5 is not as good as the 901 system. That said, when switching from the Dennon AVR to the Yamaha RX-A2000 made a huge difference in the sound quality. The 901's are connected to Pioneer Elite's 200 watt/channel amplifier of years past and the sound is extremely good. With the Yamaha receiver on the AM 5's, they come much closer. The base and drums seem very tight at the end of the note, nothing like a wishy washy decay that we had before. So the AMP makes a huge difference even on a much less expensive speaker!! You often hear choose the speaker first and then the amp. Well you need it all. And this Yamaha delivers. The various sound fields work as advertised and are truly interesting to listeners who have stuck to stereo for many years. I'll probably upgrade the 901 system with the excellent switching capability of this Yamaha (can't use the equalizer without a separate amplifier, however). The video portion of the receiver works as expected. Tried it on both a Pioneer plasma and a toshiba 480i tv. It does in fact improve the picture on both from non blue ray players/disks. Dot crawl is non-existent with this technology. All non-hdmi inputs are better, and we do use the non-hdmi, non-HD for a variety of purposes. Highly recommended from a very fussy listener.

An excellent audio receiver with top class features. Hoever remote is horrible and manual is poorly written. Setup is painful but you will love it after that. Will take a month to properly setup and learn all features.

Replaces a Lexicon DC-1 and while this was a daring move, the Yamaha proves itself, the best way to go.There is no going back to separates. I would have returned it immediately had it not bettered my experience. Thanks, Yamaha and ABT Electronics[...]
