This lens can do it all. I used to carry and swap the 18-55mm lens with this one. The lens is very light by the way. After a while I noticed that most of my shots were at least 6 to 10 feet away. Perfect for the low end of the 55-300mm range of this lens. Plus when I take it to sporting events the 300mm allows me to stay in the bleachers. Alot of our friends have the 200mm lens and have to get alot closer for the same shots. The image stabilizer allows for crisp action photos at any distance.

As the lens is a bit heavy catches while hand turning from 55 to 300. Autofocus and VR works perfect but at full zoom the picture is not very sharp. I tried taking picture with tripod but at 275-300mm it lacks sharpness.. But its worth the money. for $400 u get complete outdoor set. if u hv 18-55mm then this can be ur next lens to complete the range from 18-300 in two lenses.

Too Soft and Unsharp

By

from Haverhill, MA, USA

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

This lens focuses fast but is very soft from 250 to 300 mm. Better off with the 70-300 Nikon.

Great Lens

By

from Texas, USA

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I enjoy using this lens. It was easy to learn how to use this lens in coordination with my particular camera. I would like to buy the 200-500mm lens for wildlife and some landscape photography.

I think it worth double the price. Excellent !

By

from Bangladesh

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

For beginners who want to photograph birds or distant subject this is a very cheap ideal lens. It is very light weight and you won't need to carry a tripod ever. It's performance is very beautiful sharp and VR works great (although I have to say if you don't like to autofocus because its slow and some time can't focus). It's versatile zoom range is very good and in 55mm it can be use as a portrait lens and in 200-300mm it can be use like a telephoto. So if you are in budget and want a telephoto for your DX then go for it.

Lens arrived with scratch on coating of lens

By

from Carterville, IL 62918, USA

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

The lens came as an outfit with another lens and the D7100 body. I've never had any problems with Nikon/Nikkor lenses before and I've owned quite a few Nikon cameras and still do. I'm very unsatisfied with the fact that no one inspects these lenses before they package them unless of course it isn't human beings packaging the lens in a box. So my first day using it is also the first day of having to package it back up to send it to Nikon for replacement. Be sure to visually inspect every detail of the camera's and lenses you buy Nikon retailers, in this case B and H.

    Best for the price

    By

    from Minnesota, USA

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

First I am a professional I use very expensive lenses and bodies. I recommend this lens to all the d3000 to the d7200 users it is good glass low chromatic aberations and you can even use it for portraits. Parents and siblings all have this lens after I referred them to it and the sharpness is amazing for the price. In my opinion no one should buy the 70-300 it is scrap but this lens is great.

        Yes, Excellent!

        By

from I'm just a guy who loves to take pictures

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

I have been shooting a lot with this lens, often replacing the sigma 18-250 that I began to use as an all purpose lens. Using my d5200 or d7100, I simply get much sharper photos with excellent characteristics. Quite by surprise, I processed several shots I took of the moon (using a tripod). See for yourself. this lens is awesome on my DX cameras. this is NOT a fast lens, but I still managed to catch a few turkey vultures in flight

Switched from Fixed-Lens - Never Go Back!

        By

        from Duncan, OK, USA

Comments about Nikon Black AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300MM F/4.5-5.6G ED VR Lens:

Using this lens with Nikon D3300, it is astonishing how it can focus "on the go" taking point'n'shoot pictures of dragonflies rushing over a lake or birds flying through the air: without tripod, in focus, crisp clear. We did not think that would work without a tripod, but in daylight, it works just fine. Very satisfied as an amateur. Now, we do realize that 58mm lens opening is not a very big opening for a 300mm zoom, however, the 55-300mm spread is more than we hoped for in this price category.
