The dough hook works great. I use it for making bread most weekends, and have for almost five years, when we received our KitchenAid KSM150PS (Pistachio Green!).A few weeks back I noticed what looked like egg shells in my dough. Turns out it was nylon coating from the hook. It is now chipping and coming off at an accelerate rate. I can't use the dough hook any more.I would prefer an all metal version, that I don't have to worry about stuff chipping off into my food.

Enamel coating ruins too many loaves
from Downingtown, PA
Comments about KitchenAid 5 Quart Stand Mixer Dough Hook:
I really love my mixer, but I've had to purchase replacement C-dough hooks three times--twice in the past year--because the enamel chips and peels off so easily when in use. I wish Kitchen Aid would offer an uncoated hook for the KSM series.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

paint is falling off my dough hook
As many others i have also experienced the paint chipping off. I bake bread about 2-3 times a month and have used it for about 1-2 years. My main problem is getting paint chips in my bread. there is about 2-3 square cm of paint missing on the hook. I assume it is in my stomach now.I expected higher quality of a machine in this price range.

Chip on hook
broken! bread hook
from Central Michigan
I love to use the bread hook, especially to make soft pretzels and pizza dough. My machine has not been used often since I got it about 20 years ago because it is too heavy to lift and move around. Recently, I remodeled my kitchen and provided a slide out shelf to accommodate the mixer and use it more often. While kneading some dough last week, the hook just snapped in two pieces! The dough was soft and pliable and should not have caused well-constructed metal to break. Chips of the coating came off and fell onto the dough. I had to start from scratch and use my Cuisinart instead.

Yet another chipped dough hook
I love my Kitchenaid mixer but like apparently many people have the chipping dough hook problem and I do to. I already contacted Kitchenaid and was told by email that I can buy a new one from them. I don't like that ALL the replies from Kitchenaid shown here ask you to contact them. it sounds like something will be done for you, right? In my case I received no joy...just buy another dough hook and move on consumer! After spending over $250 on my mixer I am like a "captive consumer" and I have to cough up money every couple of years for a new dough hook!

I love my Artisan Stand Mixer, but after a year, the nylon coating is chipping off of the dough hook. I'm even finding flecks of the coating in my breads. Please make a metal hook for this model!

Excellent Machine but poor attachment quality - Chip paint

We have entire range of Kitchen aid equipment in our Master Chef Kitchen. Kitchen Aid mixer is an essential part of our daily meal preparation since cooking Asian meals require lot of kneading involved. We have seen over the years multiple hooks we have purchased loose there paint which is first not healthy and can be choking hazard and also not sure why Kitchen aid is not taking any action on it. I would like this to be brought to everyone's attention and would like the company to work on correcting this as we cannot use these hooks once they loose the chip. We have almost 3 hooks used in last 4 years and just due to buy new hook. Not sure how we can get our voice heard other then dropping reviews on other sub vendors website.
Quality of dough hook not good
I liked the mixer. But the quality of attachments is not satisfactory. The coating of the dough hook is peeling off. Its getting into the dough. The pieces are tiny, so are difficult to find. I not happy with the dough hook.

I read other people's reviews and noted that they also had same issued that I had. The nylon coating was chipped from the cone side of the bottom and the egg shell like coating pieces were in my breads. Then, later I found that those pieces were from the hook. Therefore, I threw the hook away two times. Then, I bought a burnished beater and it has another problem. Now, I need to find another beater and the hook which won't have any problem that I had before. Otherwise, I need to buy multiple hooks/beaters to exchange every time to find grey gunk or chips?

Does a great job.

My kitchen aide was given to me for Christmas. I've wanted one for years but couldn't afford one. I'm at the age where the kitchen aide does most of the hard work for me.
