The dough hook works great. I use it for making bread most weekends, and have for almost five years, when we received our KitchenAid KSM150PS (Pistachio Green!).A few weeks back I noticed what looked like egg shells in my dough. Turns out it was nylon coating from the hook. It is now chipping and coming off at an accelerate rate. I can't use the dough hook any more.I would prefer an all metal version, that I don't have to worry about stuff chipping off into my food.

Comments about KitchenAid 5 Quart Stand Mixer Dough Hook:
Looks my dough hook is the same as everyone else's, as the coated finish has begun flaking off. I am in agreement that a non-coated version would be the way to go.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Another chipped dough hook ruins a batch. I was getting the dough off with a silicon spatula and heard it hit the bowl and then saw it. This was the second time this has happened. There should be a recall.

same old story

So I came to this site to find replacement parts for my kitchen aid. The hook s chipped off at the bottom like everyone else is. Shame, maybe you should stop coating this.
Chipped dough hook is terrible

Enamal chips in my dough. Is there a stainless hook available? Terrible design for a product used for food preparation.

Feeling ripped off!
from Galena, IL
Like other reviewers, I'm feeling ripped off. If a manufacturer knows of a recurring problem, WHY NOT FIX IT? I have my mixer for 5 years but probably use it only 4-6 times a year for very specific recipes where the dough hook is needed. I did pre-read all of the use and care literature because, for me, this is a huge investment. The dough hook is dishwasher safe and I only wash it on the top rack. Why then does the coating come off? I'll tell you why; it's so Kitchenaid can make money off of the consumer every year or two! C'mon Kitchenaid, you can do better! Make the hook without the coating or I will consciously avoid buying ANY of your products in the future!

Like so many others on here, my dough hook has a lot of chips in it! I can't believe the product is poorly made and so many of us are unfortunately eating this enamel. When will kitchen aid improve upon this???

Enamel coating ruins too many loaves
from Downingtown, PA
I really love my mixer, but I've had to purchase replacement C-dough hooks three times--twice in the past year--because the enamel chips and peels off so easily when in use. I wish Kitchen Aid would offer an uncoated hook for the KSM series.
paint is falling off my dough hook
As many others i have also experienced the paint chipping off. I bake bread about 2-3 times a month and have used it for about 1-2 years. My main problem is getting paint chips in my bread. there is about 2-3 square cm of paint missing on the hook. I assume it is in my stomach now.I expected higher quality of a machine in this price range.

Chip on hook
broken! bread hook
from Central Michigan
I love to use the bread hook, especially to make soft pretzels and pizza dough. My machine has not been used often since I got it about 20 years ago because it is too heavy to lift and move around. Recently, I remodeled my kitchen and provided a slide out shelf to accommodate the mixer and use it more often. While kneading some dough last week, the hook just snapped in two pieces! The dough was soft and pliable and should not have caused well-constructed metal to break. Chips of the coating came off and fell onto the dough. I had to start from scratch and use my Cuisinart instead.

Yet another chipped dough hook
I love my Kitchenaid mixer but like apparently many people have the chipping dough hook problem and I do to. I already contacted Kitchenaid and was told by email that I can buy a new one from them. I don't like that ALL the replies from Kitchenaid shown here ask you to contact them. it sounds like something will be done for you, right? In my case I received no joy...just buy another dough hook and move on consumer! After spending over $250 on my mixer I am like a "captive consumer" and I have to cough up money every couple of years for a new dough hook!
