Nikon D7000 Black 16.2 Megapixels Digital SLR Camera Kit - D7000KIT

With the Nikon D7000 DSLR, you get professional features and image quality in a lightweight, compact body. Nikon left nothing out when creating this camera, making it perhaps the best enthusiast DSLR on the market.

Uncompromising Image Quality

The D7000 features an all new 16.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, for the most stunning image quality available in a DX-format camera. With a native sensitivity range of 100-6400 ISO (plus H1 and H2 levels), low light levels will not stop you from getting the perfect image. The D7000 sensor is also capable of spectacular 1080p HD video recording at multiple frame rates.

Professional-Level Speed

Everything about the D7000 was designed to be faster than the competition. The 39-point autofocus system rivals some full-frame cameras and is equipped with 9 cross-type points for quick, accurate focusing in all lighting conditions. 3D AF tracking helps focus on moving objects, which you can then capture at up to 6 frames per second.

Versatile Kit Lens With Vibration Reduction

Included in this Nikon D7000 Kit is the popular AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. The name is handful, but so are the features. With a wide zoom range, you’ll have the perfect focal length for scenic vistas or portraits at a distance. ED (Extra-low Dispersion) Glass reduces chromatic aberration to maximize optical performance, while Nikons’s VR (Vibration Reduction) will ensure sharp results in low light by stabilizing the lens during slow shutter speeds.

I bought this lens when I upgraded from a D90 to the D800 a few months ago. I had been using the 70-300 lens on my D90, and loved it. I researched a lot before buying this lens, and had some concerns about distortion, but decided to buy it for the versatility -- and at the time I did not have a macro lens, so I thought this would be a good substitute.
I have not been disappointed. I've taken several thousand shots with this lens, and have since acquired a macro (the 105mm micro Nikkor). Surprisingly, I actually prefer this lens for some macro shots -- particularly moving insects that will not stand still for me to get close with the 105mm lens.
There was some adjustment with the FX camera, since the DX D90 multiplies the magnification by 1.5,and I was used to getting more magnification. However, with the D800's 36MP, I can crop and magnify much more than the DX multiplication factor with no loss of resolution at all.
There is no more distortion at 28mm than I had at 18 mm on my D90's 18-105 kit lens (which is very little), and I find the pictures at 300 mm to be as sharp as I was getting at 300mm with the 70-300 zoom.
The really great thing about this lens is its versatility. When I travel, I no longer have to carry a macro, a close zoom, and a long-range zoom. And I no longer have to change lenses, which reduces sensor dust and saves a tremendous amount of time (and risk of breaking or damaging a lens) changing lenses.
I do like the 105mm macro, and it is fantastic for things that I can get close to; but its depth of field is not as good as the 28-300mm lens at the same aperture, and the 6x 300mm advantage is worth having when I don't want to, or can't, get close to the subject. I am sure that the 105mm lens is sharper, but I really cannot tell the difference in practice. It's actually easier to hand-hold the 28-300 up close than the 105, and it focuses a little easier.
Since Nikon no longer makes a micro zoom, this is the best alternative. And it is also great at long range at full zoom.
I've read several pros who do not like zoom lenses and who talk about framing by walking. That's fine for some situations, but the zoom is by far my preference. Being able to go from wide angle to telephoto with a quality lens on a quality camera means a lot to me. I have hundreds of pictures that are pro quality though I am not a pro, and even though it's the photographer who makes good pictures, the equipment certainly helps!
Last but certainly not least, the price is great considering the versatility and range of the lens. Great going, Nikon!

This lens has average optical quality, but if stopped down to about f/5.6 or f/8, the quality improves a lot more. Smooth zoom action and fast auto focus response. VR works well. Some users find the lens heavy, but I do not. If lens is used carefully and properly, it is a very good all purpose lens. Good travel lens.

EXCELLENT OPTICS

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I use this as my go-to lens for almost everything. I have quite a few (too many my wife says) f2.8 Nikkors, but go to this one most of the time just because I can count on it for a full zoom range and great sharpness. It's the first lens to go in the bag, and I have to say used the most! I've used Nikon for 35mm photos since 1968 - my first Nikon F - continuing all the way now to all digital.

Everyone has a lens that seems to always be on the camera. This is mine. Fantastic lens. Sharp and oh so flexible. It is a great travel lens. Covers a great deal of applications from close up to landscape. Just love this thing.

Great Lens!

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I use the Nikon 28-300 primarily on my D-750. The quality is nothing short of amazing for the money. The major reason that I use the Nikon 28-300 is to eliminate lens changes under challenging situations, like when its raining on the beach and you have to get the shot. Or when its dusty. I would rather get the shot with this lens then take a chance at getting dust or water in my D-750. In the studio thats one thing but under challenging situations Its the Nikon 28-300 for me.

3.75 stars. Great travel and a perfect "Everywhere" lens Good at everything.

By

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

My review of this lens is mixed. It is a good lens. Perhaps I did not have a good version of this lens. I have read other reviews that this lens can vary. Under optimal conditions this lens is sharp, but it is slow to focus. Due to its variable aperature its is fair when shooting inside. When taking photos with blue skies there is a lot of vignetting at the 28 and 300 lengths. Especially when aiming up at the sky. There is some flare too. A lot of this can be fixed in Light room. Cropping gets rid of all, but you lose some of your image. Therefore you lose some of the image on landscapes. I got this lens because it was what I could afford at the time and it did everything. It served me well. I traded it in and bought a 24-70 F/2.8 and a 70-200 F/4. My kit is now heavier but my lenses are faster to focus and much sharper. If you are printing photos and enlarging them, then you should buy this lens with caution. If you are strictly using it for digital frames, online purposes, photo journalism or you are a hobbyist then this lens is great. Its ok for portraits. The higher F-stops 11-22 are much sharper than the lower ones. 3.5 and 5.6 are soft (at least on my version) For travel its really good. It does everything. But I wouldn't take it on a safari for that great Gazelle shot. Like I said its a mixed review. Good at everything but not great. If you are on a budget I'd get a Tamron 28-75 F2.8 and the 70-300 3.6-5.6. Like I said this lens served me well, but when I printed, my images didn't seem as clear as they did on screen. And yes I used a highly reputable printer. I would recommend it with reservations. Ken Rockwell loves this lens, but his review on the 24-70 2.8 is moderate, which is a great lens. I have a love/dislike relationship with this lens. But yet I would still recommend it for its all around usefulness. I'd give it 3.75 stars.

Good, all-purpose lens

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I leave this zoom on my Nikon D610 for most purposes, even though I have several other lenses. The accompanying shots were taken from RAW files that were adjusted and cropped in post using DXO Optics Pro. I love this combination of camera, lens, and software. I use this combination frequently in my role as contributing photo journalist for an online publication.

Essential travel lens

By

from Durham, NC, USA

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I want to echo the April 2015 review regarding the utility of this lens for a wide variety of travel related photography. Remarkably fast focus, superb clarity - extremely small amount of vignetting on periphery at 200 mm a bit more noticeable at 300 but over the wide mm range of this lens is very very small. Small aperture is no problem in low light with the D810. I have 9 lenses for my D810 and this lens is my favorite companion and has stood the test of time in subzero to desert environments and ultimately Lightroom since this lens was manufactured.

A Real Workhorse

By

from Seattle, WA, USA

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

i have owned this lens for two years, and have literally traveled the world using it as my solo lens. I recently went to SE Asia, and took a variety of lenses with me but never took any of them out of my bag since my 28-300 covered all situations I encountered. The VR works very well, and the image quality is outstanding. I honestly cannot recommend this lens highly enough.

An excellent lens

By

from South Carolina, USA

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

There is little to say about this lens that others have not said however, It is simply great. As a traveling senior I know I am a target for thieves when I travel, that is just the way the world is now. So when I travel this lens is not only a great lens for photos but I do not have to change lenses often which means..... I keep my concentration on my surroundings as well as my shot. It does macro very well and even night shots it works well, it simply does everything that I want it to do. You couple this with Nikon Capture NX2 and it is about as good as it gets.

Excellent general purpose lens

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I purchased this lens to match my new D610 body, having used my D7000 for several years and wishing to have a full-frame system as well. It really exceeds expectations - I have a Nikkor AF-S 300 1:4 mm prime with a TC-14II for bird photography (unbelievably sharp combo) and the great Nikkor 80-400 mm VR for wildlife, and find that this lens essentially replaces them both, specially if I fit it onto the D7000 body to get that extra 30% focal length in the DX world. The VR seems to be excellent, though normally I am not shooting at low shutter speeds with this lens so not really much of an issue. It is really heavy to carry around, so be aware that you may wish to have a couple of small primes for when you do not need a zoom. I have one of the older 50 mm f/1.8 prime and just purchased the 35 mm f/1.8 so that if I am obviously going to be somewhere where the longer tele is not needed, and specially if I need a wider aperture for low light, I ave a couple of relatively low cost alternatives.

Comments about Nikon D7000 Black Digital SLR Camera Kit:

I use well constructed camera travel gear. I purchased this lens in June 2013 and within 10 months it had dust spots inside the lens where the only removal option was for Nikon to fix it. I was on vacation in June/July and sent it in upon returning in August. They won't repair it without charging me $300 for the repair. The D600 also had spot issues but since a lot of people complained about that issue, it did not cost to repair the body. This is the THIRD issue I have had with Nikon cameras/lenses and spots. I am inclined to spend my money elsewhere. One in three times they stand behind their product - not good enough odds for the money I spend on camera gear.
