Bang & Olufsen 40" Beovision 10 Flat Panel LCD HDTV - 1846855
The BeoVision 10 is the slimmest flat screen TV we have ever created, designed to hang on your wall with your other artwork.
The design language of BeoVision 10 is candid and straightforward. A black glass square framed by a slender polished aluminium frame, which is angled and curved exactly right to give almost an optical illusion. The transition to the taut fabric of the loudspeaker cover is almost imperceptible. On the back, a concealed wall bracket lets you swing out the screen at an angle up to 45°– for viewing from a different location or getting out on the floor with family and friends to play today’s active video games.
Flat on the wall, but big on sound: despite its ultra slim profile, BeoVision 10 stays loyal to the celebrated Bang & Olufsen tradition for great sounding televisions with high quality speakers and amplifiers built into the cabinet. We constructed the loudspeaker section with a custom-made bass port solution in the shape of a trumpet to eliminate any turbulent noise.
The latest LED backlight technology means that the screen is slimmer and uses less power than conventional LCDs. And you can be sure that all the motion on the screen is completely smooth thanks to advanced judder cancellation.
Outstanding sound and unique slimness
Although BeoVision 10 is a flat screen TV, it offers anything but flat sound. The acoustic engineers have met the challenge of creating great sound in the slim TV, by adding a genuine active two-way stereo loudspeaker system and a centre bass with a creative bass port design.
BeoVision 10 is a unique flat screen TV both when it comes to the flawless design and the outstanding picture quality. Besides a fantastic visual experience the slim beauty offers an impressive sound performance. It has a genuine active two-way stereo loudspeaker system with a centre bass, integrated and placed below the screen covered by a fabric front. It offers a digital surround sound module as standard and includes an extensive connection panel allowing you to add up to five extra speakers for a full surround sound setup.
Great sound in small cabinet
During the design process of BeoVision 10, the acoustic engineers have been quite challenged, as the slimness of the TV leaves very limited space for the loudspeakers. With a cabinet size of less than 1.8 litres the engineers had to be inventive to get enough space to move the sufficient amount of air to achieve the great bass performance that is a hallmark for Bang & Olufsen. This required a completely new cabinet that made it possible to develop a new concept for the bass port, which not only increased the bass quality, but also reduced unwanted turbulent noise.
Improved bass performance
A forward pointing bass leaves very little space between the port and the front fabric and gives an unwanted dampening effect which increases the risk of audible distortion and turbulent noise. By placing the port opening behind the screen and creating trumpet shaped design for the outer opening, the wind speed at the port opening is slowed down which results in optimal reduction of the turbulent noise, actually giving an improved bass performance.
Stereo loudspeaker system
Besides the custom made bass system, BeoVision 10 offers a genuinely active stereo two-way loudspeaker system. The system consists in each two-way channel of a custom made 2” midrange and a ¾” tweeter. The centre-bass system is a custom made 4” loudspeaker driver facing out towards the front part of the speaker frame. The bass loudspeaker driver is protected by an Adaptive Bass Linearisation (ABL) circuitry to allow an optimal sound pressure level. The loudspeakers are individually equalized and driven by Class D amplifiers. This solution offers full bandwidth high quality audio.
To further refine the sound performance, all loudspeaker cabinets are suspended in rubber bushings to avoid disturbing vibrations generated to the rest of the TV.
The BeoVision 10 sound performance has been optimised through intensive tests by the Bang & Olufsen listening panel and sound experts. All the specially developed core competences and technologies, that are the foundation of any Bang & Olufsen loudspeaker, have been applied for creating crystal clear sound for the slim wall mounted sculpture with the great voice.
Almost an optical illusion
For the creation of BeoVision 10 the consideration to the slim look has resulted in an extraordinary work with the frame. The almost invisible aluminium profiles make the TV appear as one large piece of black glass in a square format which enhances the impression of BeoVision 10 as an elegant wall decoration when switched off.
Floating glass surface
Functional and elegant solutions have been invented for BeoVision 10. The TV is covered by an elegant front glass and framed by a high-gloss polished aluminium profile on both front and rear, only a few centimeters wide.
The idea of the designer was to let the frame appear light – almost invisible – in order to draw attention to the glass front of the TV. Consequently, the designer had to rethink the traditional angled frame edges, because this type of frame makes the TV stand out from the wall when mounted.
The frame of BeoVision 10 consists of two high-gloss polished aluminium profiles that are bent back in a steep angle towards the wall. The profiles are designed to take up a minimum part of the total TV surface and are split in a front and a rear part. The front profile is pushed out a bit further compared to the rear and partly hides the rear side of the frame. Combining the two halves make it possible to visually cut the depth in half.
As a result, the frame takes up a minimum part of the total TV surface and by selecting a high-gloss aluminium polishing the frame almost disappears. To help obtain this optical perception of invisibility, the rear frame is angled nearly in parallel to the wall, you can almost only see the front frame even when looking at the TV from an angle. This way the TV blends in and becomes part of the wall – and the interior decoration.
The edge of the front frames that points towards the screen has been milled and anodized with black colour. This makes the inner edge of the profile match the black front glass that it frames perfectly and hereby enhances the invisibility and lightness of the frame.
The result is a discrete, yet elegant and strong, foundation for the glass surface, which almost seems to be floating a few centimeters from the wall. This way the impression of BeoVision 10 as one large piece of black glass is complete, making BeoVision 10 as beautiful switched on as well as switched off.
Slim design thanks to new panel technology
The full HD BeoVision 10 is a new exciting LED-based LCD panel with impressive picture performance applying the latest picture improvements technologies. It includes the newest in 200/240 Hz technology combined with sophisticated motion compensation technologies that take the motion performance of the LCD panel to a yet unseen level of smoothness.
The slim design of BeoVision 10 is, among other things, obtained by applying the new edge-type LED backlight technology and placing the chassis and the loudspeakers below the LCD screen, thus reducing the overall depth of the cabinet.
New panel technology
Opposed to the traditional CCFL (Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp) backlight which consists of an array of fluorescent tube lights, the backlight unit for BeoVision 10 consists of a large number of white LEDs positioned all around at the edge of the panel. The light from the LEDs is spread evenly across the panel by means of an optical light guide system. Besides being incredibly slim, which is extremely important when you’re looking for a dedicated wall mounted TV, one of the advantages of the edge-type panels is that some of the heat is conducted away from the electronics and out into the room thus requiring less cooling of the electronics.
Improved picture performance
BeoVision 10 offers excellent picture performance thanks to a number of VisionClear technologies and the 200/240 Hz technology which reduces the motion blur in moving video and film material. This is a technology where the number of pictures per second – or more technically the frame rate – is quadrupled. The additional intermediate pictures or frames are calculated from the original ones using advanced motion compensated interpolation techniques.
Quadrupling the number of pictures per frame causes motion blurs. This is a problem inherent to LCD technology. However, the motion blur is reduced in BeoVision 10 by adding so-called judder cancellation. The combination of the new panel and these sophisticated picture technologies ensure that BeoVision 10 becomes a fantastic solution when it comes to reproduction of scenes with a lot of motion.
