I bought two Roomba 562 Pet Series robots, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. I hate lugging the vacuum cleaner around the house, and we have too much furniture and "things" on the floors, so vacuuming is a REAL chore. My Roomba's are a blessing.

I live in an old house where electrical outlets are a rarity and we have to use extension cords and power strips everywhere. I don't have optimal spaces for the docking stations, but so far it's working pretty well. Roomba 1 has a little trouble getting out of and into its space sometimes because it's tucked into a corner.

I have not yet programmed a schedule, because it's simple to decide when Roomba should work and punch its button, so that particular feature is not so important to me.

I'm also not overly concerned about Roomba's inability to vacuum in the small spaces because it's just so nice to have the main floor clean with not too much effort. You do need to clean the brushes, bearings and especially the spindles fairly frequently, but I feel it's a small price to pay. Besides, it's easier than cleaning a regular vacuum's brush and dealing with belts. No screwdriver needed!

I just allowed Roomba 2 out of my room today to clean the linoleum, and although it does have a sensitive bumper, it DID bump the animals' water dish enough to spill it. Luckily I was right there to wipe it up so as not to harm Roomba. They're not supposed to be subjected to liquids.

I love these things so much that I hope they last a long time. I worry about overworking them! I think iRobot should work next on some Baby Roomba's that can get into the small spaces.

Be warned that when your Roomba's are new, they will not be a time-saver because you spend your time just watching them work! It couldn't just be me, could it?

P.S. I was just about to submit this review when Roomba 2's right wheel became stuck. There is nothing in the manual that tells how to fix this, so a call into service is in the immediate future. I've been using the robot for about two weeks every other day or so.

This is a step by step experience analysis. We are a working couple with 1 - 80 lb Pure bred German Shepherd. Normally the house is vacuumed once a week. Purchased Roomba for use on the main floor - 250 SqFt short hair carpet, 150 SqFt Linoleum, small hall. Purpose of the unit was to keep the kitchen free of fur as we are getting a second LARGE dog soon.

- Purchases Feb 27/2010. Roomba 565 Pet series.
- Same day, after it indicated it was fully charged we set it loose to test its limits.
- Within 1 hour it was stopped and complaining for brush attention so we cleaned it and decided try giving it a pre-cleaned room to maintain. We put it back on charge.

Feb 28/2010
- The entire floor was vacuumed with our Dyson Pet-vac.
- Immediately the unit was set loose to clean and it began picking up material the Dyson didn't!!
- Immediately the unit began collecting fur on the OUTSIDE of the unit as a static charge built on the plastic body. This fur would be dumped in the kitchen when the unit bumped into metal objects causing it to loose static charge.
- As it traveled over the carpet, it would randomly dump clumps of the fur it collected in a trail behind it. The fur wasn't being fully deposited in the collection bin but rather collected in the space between the brushes & bin with the excess being shoved back into the bin and some falling to the floor.
- Let the unit run its full cycle and then began the clean up.
- The machine collected about a palm full of material which I could squeeze down much smaller.
- Roughly another 15% of the quantity that stayed in the machine, was spread out on the floor in clump trails.
- The kitchen, previously fur free, now had whisps of fur all off the floor that had fallen off the machine. They were too light to sweep and needed to be picked up by hand (I shoulda thought to vacuum them up)
- Another 5% of the collected material was wrapped around the axles of the brush and beater bar and spread out on the brush itself.

March 1st/ 2010
- 3AM - The unit was scheduled to run which it did to its end. I woke, cleaned roughly the same amount of material from the machine as before both in the collection bin and off the brushes. I also had to clean up sporadic debris trails.

March 1st/2010
- 1PM - The unit was set loose again through and complete cleaning cycle. Again the same quantity of fur was collected and a similar mess was made. It does occasionally go over areas where it dumped, again and clean some of it up.
- Once again, the unit entered the kitchen littered with fur clinging to its plastic shell which it began dumping after it bumped the fridge (A metal ground source that absorbed the static)

The unit is generally unremarkable. It has 4 bottom sensors that help it detect stairs and dirt, sensors in its front bumper to allow it to detect come objects and the bumper itself. Other than that its a basic turtle type robot that finds it way around by aimlessly wondering around until it bumps into things.
Being a programmer I was able to detect and admire some of the intelligent coding that was used to help it track baseboards and find its way out of tight spots but also disappointed that no effort was made to allow the unit to learn the terrain from all that bumping around.
The unit has static problems and with all the plastic and brushes running against the carpet, it quickly starts looking like a dog itself. The static problems seem to be what prevents the fur from being pushed well into the debris bin and thus results in collection and entanglement in and around the brush as well as the sporadic dumping. The process I had to go through with each cleaning made me feel like a university student caring for a prototype.

We will be restricting it to the 150 Sqft kitchen floor as it is still too far in the development stages for anything beyond that.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I had the 510 and the 535 models before and the 560 is way better. The design of the brush has changed, which makes it easier to clean and more efficient in picking up stuff. I run it once a week and the 560 picks up twice as much as the others. It also starts on the programed schedule, so I can forget about it, except of course for emptying its bin. If any hair is tangled around the brush I just cut it off.
The only problem is that it keeps climbing up on the rotating chairs' feet and hangs there. Otherwise it gets in and out from everywhere and does a reasonable job. It's a great help.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I love my Roomba! It's programmed to clean the main floor of my house daily and does a pretty good job. Now that I have it, I don't know how I ever maintained a house with pets before. I can't believe how much hair it picks up every day! The only drawbacks to my Roomba are that it will get stuck under my fridge once every 2-3 weeks, it will lock itself in my laundry room if I leave the door open, and it frequently bumps its dock while cleaning then can't find it when it's trying to charge. Pretty minor inconveniences to a machine that keeps my hardwood floors looking clean and pet hair to a minimum!

LOVE my Roomba, Just purchased the New Aerovac Bin and the Enhanced cleaning head for my Roomba 560. I have 2 cats and a dog, was having trouble with the old bin leaving hair around the edge of the rugs. The bin would be almost empty but hair was catching on the prongs inside the bin and when the prongs got full it would rake it off on the edge of the rugs as it would start over them. Since I've gotten the new bin have not had that problem, seems to clean a lot more thorough. They have eliminated the prongs all together, "Great Idea". For pet owners like myself I highly recommend the Aerovac Bin and also the New Enhanced Cleaning Head. Thanks iRobot!!!!

Comments about iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

Purchased our "Robby" (Roomba 550) 3 years ago. Upgraded unit to Aerovac to hold more and clean better. Have it set to run Mon-Fri at 1 PM. Until Robby arrived, we never realized how much dust builds up each day. It does most rooms of house, except Living Room with expensive rug. Have girls with long hair (instead of dogs or cats). Robby is able to run 2-3 days before cleaning. Have a Shop Vacuum setup to vacuum the brushes, filter and unit. Have the process down to only take about 5 minutes to clean. Unit will run for almost 2 full hours before going Home. It does occasionally run the battery down trying to get our 2000+ sq ft house done. (Had to replace the battery once. Change brushes, filter and rotor every 6 mo.) We only have to "Robby-tize" the place each day, i.e. pick up clothes and objects, close bathroom doors, etc. We only have to run the regular vacuum once a week to clean the left overs, and we hardly ever have to clean under the bed or couches anymore. If we ever need another, we will surely do so. We have recommended Roomba to many friends and relatives. They are always amazed when they see Robby going about his business.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I have had my Roomba for almost two years. I have five cats in my house and they shed a LOT. My Roomba is a lifesaver. I run it every morning and only get my vacuum out about once every two weeks. The dust bin is full every day; it takes me a few minutes to empty it and clean the brushes but it is so worth it. I can wear black slacks in my house again. Early on I had a problem with it stopping during cleaning, called customer service, and was immediately told what the problem was; I was not cleaning the little yellow sprockets. I started doing that and have not had the problem again. They were so helpful. I never write reviews but this product is a real blessing. I bought Roombas for all four of my grown children for Christmas and they love them, too. I have recommended them to everyone I know.

I could not be more pleased with my Roomba! I was dubious at first, but read a glowing review in another magazine so I took the plunge. I use the Rooomba every day now. My carpets always look and feel clean. Sure, the robot doesn't get into every nook and cranny, but just having it clean the high traffic areas means my house looks better and therefore my kids keep it neater!

Comments about iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I bought the 560, the biggest, baddest IRobot I could find at the time - like 2011. It does pick up the dirt on the floors. Now there are at least 5 NEW and IMPROVED models. Maybe the problem I have has been solved. But cleaning the thing is the worst. You have to get your hands dirty and pull the hair out of the brushes, and cut the hair wrapped around the ends of the brushes. The brush cleaner they provide does not take out the hair. There are two, retired adults in our household, and no pets. I run it every couple of weeks. I have to clean the brushes, by pulling out the dust and hair every time I use it, which means one room at a time, because it's packed in there. It's not just emptying the dirt bin. I'm ready to find a new lightweight upright vacuum and go back to the days of just changing the dust bag.

First of all this robot is obviously not intended to replace your manual vacuum. And it will not pick up as much or cover the edges like manual vacuuming will. However because it vacuums all on its own it will vacuum everyday and with this much vacuuming it almost makes up the difference. Myself, I vacuum once a month with a normal vac and let Roomba do the rest.
