If you don’t read the manual and follow the instructions you will not like this device, period. Not to going far from the point this is a smart washer (meaning there’s a computer in the device like your cell phone). The computer runs the washer; therefore it has a check list called POST (Power On Self Test) and then it runs a routine (the cycles). The 1st step is to level the washer so the computer can take an accurate reading. Because it does not have an agitator you have to keep the center clear to allow the computer to set the water level. It’s low water level in conjunction with the vibration of the tub cleans the clothes. If the computer does not get a correct reading then the whole process is off; End Result no clean clothes or clothes not dry at the end of cycle. Or something like that you get the picture. Again you must first start with leveling the device for the computer. (Levers are cheap at any hardware store) Next the detergent goes in 1st not last and the recommendation is LE (Low Energy) detergent but any detergent that I used has worked just fine. Ok, so with all that said, “This has to be one of the best washing machine/devices that I own. The thing is just down right smart and at the end of the day my clothes are clean. If you are smarter than the device you win and that’s that. Reading is fundamental. I LOVE this machine period. Oh, and the dryer is not bad either…

My wife and I purchased this machine about a year ago and are VERY disappointed! We have tried multiple brands of detergent, followed the instructions carefully and it still does not clean clothes properly. It wrings them out so much that even permanent press clothes come out of the dryer wrinkled. Heavily soiled clothes come out looking like they were tie dyed. These photos were taken after being treated with pre-wash and washed and dried in this machine and the associated dryer. I posted a review on this site previously and it was removed. There was no profanity just a true accounting of how poorly this washer performs.

Maytag made a lemon
from Boise, Idaho
Comments about Maytag Centennial MVWC400XW White Top Load Washer:
I was originally pleased with the low water usage and the large capacity drum. However, I have only owned the machine for two years and the actuator has failed and the mother board has now gone out. Look at all the reviews of people who have owned this machine more than two years. I am not alone.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We bought this washer three years ago and have never been happy with it. It never seemed to clean my clothes the way it should. The cycles were very loud. The capacitor and kit burned out this week, so we decided it would be a good time to buy another machine.

maytag centennial spin and drain problems
from West Virginia, United States
I bought about 2 years ago and the sensor in it won't let it spin the clothes out. When the load is done the clothes have not spun and are soaking wet, when i set the dial to drain and spin it starts to spin then shuts down and the spin and lid light start blinking, I believe any machine should last longer than 2 years. My first and last Maytag washer.
AWFUL, AWFUL Product! The opposite of efficient!
from Oviedo, FL, United States
I purchased this product exactly three years ago, and today it has decided to completely stop working. But let me be honest, I have hated this machine since the day after I bought it and wish I could have returned it that day! It's awful! It doesn't wash the clothes very well, it drains extremely poorly, and it's really slow. If I have to wash things three times to ge them clean, how is that efficient? And why do my whites come out DIRTIER than when I put them in? I HATE this product. I have called customer service to complain, I have tweeted, and now I am writing on this page. I will NEVER buy a Maytag product again, this is absolutely ridiculous.
Maytag Centennial Failed
from Aurora, IL, United States
It is painful to always watch your money vaporize especially when you a trust a brand and buy Appliances. Maytag Centennial Wash Control switch failed and I had to go for a new one since changing these parts and make it rework costs so much I felt it is worth to go for a new one. This is just over two years old when it failed.
Piece of Junk!
from Port Richey, FL, United States
Not even a year old yet, and it has never worked correctly! This washer cycles over and over. If you don't catch it in time, it starts the cycle all over. I had one load of whites that washed from 8 am until I arrived home at 11:30pm! My water bill was through the roof after having this piece of junk installed.
maytag- centennial eoconserve top load washer

from lake mi
I bought this washer the beginning of 2014. i used it for six months then i stored it in the basement when i decided to use it. it washes but does not spin out during wash cycle. At a inconveince you have to wait for it to complete washing then turn nob to rinse and spin or drain and spin. 6 months of using a washer that don't work like it should! not a very good rating on my part.
Maytag no longer a quality product ...
Very poor quality. Barely 3 years old, won't spin, holding water but no blockage, not to mention we had to repair another problem 5 months ago. Going shopping for a new washer today, but will not purchase a Maytag. We owned our first Maytag washer and dryer for well over 20 years each. We should have known this one was not nearly the quality of our original Maytag just by the weight alone. Our old set was very heavy, durable and quiet running, but this Maytag Centennial was flimsy and loud from day 1 and we would have returned it, but we thought from our prior purchase experience that Maytag was the best ... How wrong we were... Maytag no longer stands for quality or dependability. Very sad.
