Our 12 1/2 year old washer started dying the other day so I went on line looking for a replacement. After looking in several stores, we wound up in LOWES. The salesman, Mike, was great! I had written down several model #'s and he took me right to them to compare each. As soon as we saw this Maytag, it was love at first sight. The size was perfect and we loved all the features. We did our first super-sized load yesterday, consisting of a double-load of towels, wash cloths, some regular clothes, etc. and a set of sheets. It was amazing! I have never seen clothes come out of a washer so clean and nearly dry. The 2nd load consisted of heavy dark clothes, including jeans and sweat pants, socks, underwear, etc. These also came out beautiful!!!!!I can't understand what some of the other reviewers are complaining about!!!!! This is the best washer we've had so far. I love the fact that it doesn't have an agitator! It's great and I highly recommend it!!!!! It takes a few minutes to get used to, but that's like anything new!

My wife and I purchased this machine about a year ago and are VERY disappointed! We have tried multiple brands of detergent, followed the instructions carefully and it still does not clean clothes properly. It wrings them out so much that even permanent press clothes come out of the dryer wrinkled. Heavily soiled clothes come out looking like they were tie dyed. These photos were taken after being treated with pre-wash and washed and dried in this machine and the associated dryer. I posted a review on this site previously and it was removed. There was no profanity just a true accounting of how poorly this washer performs.

Comments about Maytag Centennial MVWC400XW White Top Load Washer:
I bought this machine 3 1/2 years ago and it worked fine until last Friday when it shut itself down. Repairman came by Tuesday and diagnosed it as needing a new "computer" and "gear box" which he said "will cost more than I paid for the machine". The only good news here is that I bought an extended warranty and it will cover the repair/replacement cost. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL, but if you do be sure to get the 5 year extended warranty. I'm guessing you have a 99% chance of needing to use the warranty.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Do not buy this machine
from Depew, NY
I have had this washing machine less than 2 years and have had nothing but problems since the beginning. At the end it just stopped spinning and would go back to the wash cycle instead. Even when I would put it on the spin cycle. It takes almost an hour to do one load of laundry, and once it started to break even longer. It wouldn't go through all the cycles and I'm not even sure the clothes were being washed properly. My parents had the same washer and the same exact thing happened. It just stopped spinning. They had theirs for only 4 years. At least they got 2 more than I did.

My wife and i bought this washer about 4 years ago. It is just me and my wife in the house - We had 4 kids and they have all left the house. we thought we were being good is saving water. Our previous washer lasted thru all of our kids and we have had this maytag for only 4 years and the bearing have gone out! Cost to fix, $450 plus $75 service charge. (not fixing) I can buy a new washer - not a Maytag! for less money than the parts to fix. Also I have been watching our water bill over that time and we are using more water because you have to do such small loads in this washer you end up doing more wash loads. Also Hate the locking lid
Should be recalled

Have the washer for a little over a year and it has been nothing but a waste of my time and money.I have to rewash or put the load on a rinse or drain way to many time before getting a wash done. The washer seems to not drain more times than it does.It does not save water or energy.
Buy something else!
This truly is a case where "technology", as they call it, sacrifices convenience for what they call "energy and water efficiency". What a sales tactic! My wife bought this machine 3 years ago. I've never liked it. It locks the lid and you have to press and hold cancel for 3 seconds then wait for it to unlock the lid so you can toss in any forgotten items. Whoever thought of locking the lid should be fired! Also, the machine seems to sit there doing nothing for long periods of time while the "wash" or "spin" light is lit up. It's done this from the day we got it. It takes FOREVER for it complete a load of laundry. We literally spend ALL day doing laundry and it's just the 2 of us! We don't produce that much for dirty clothes! The stupid machine is on its last legs. The sensor is going out and the machine sounds like a jet liner is landing. NEVER again will we buy Maytag! We had Whirlpool prior to this and that set lasted us a good 6 years. We left it in the house we sold for the next home owners. That was a mistake. I'd much rather have it back. I wouldn't recommend this junk washer to anyone, not even my worst enemy. This washer was VERY poorly designed. Get rid of the useless sensor and remove the lock on the lid and make the machine last more than 3 years...only then might you sell more washing machines! Not at all happy! We're just fortunate that it decided to be on its last legs during black Friday weekend! We are venturing out today to buy a replacement! The sooner we get this junk out of our house, the happier we both will be!

2 years old and bearings went out. It cost more for the bearings than the machine cost new. You have to buy a Gear case assembly you cannot just buy the bearings. I will never buy another Maytag or whirlpool
Centennial HE Washer
from Ashburn, VA
I recently moved into a house with this Centennial washing machine. I've never seen a washing machine that is so quiet. It uses very little water for "regular" loads and it senses how much clothes you have in it and works really well.

Broke after 3-1/2 years. Thanks to purchasing an extended warranty, they are giving us full credit to purchase another. Motor and controls went.
What a great machine!

I am so very happy to have decided on this machine! Laundry doesn't feel like a chore anymore! The size of the basket and the 'science' behind the making of it..it's awesome! I have not found a stain or mark that I can't get out! All the options....I keep the manual handy to be sure to pick the right one! Love it!
maytag should recall all these washers and offer a refund or offer another washer. i just bought ge/hotpoint. maytag dropped the ball and lost a consumer and I will be telling friends & family maytag is garbage now!!!!Then I cannot even wright a review without maytag wanting a consent. What a joke
