Our 12 1/2 year old washer started dying the other day so I went on line looking for a replacement. After looking in several stores, we wound up in LOWES. The salesman, Mike, was great! I had written down several model #'s and he took me right to them to compare each. As soon as we saw this Maytag, it was love at first sight. The size was perfect and we loved all the features. We did our first super-sized load yesterday, consisting of a double-load of towels, wash cloths, some regular clothes, etc. and a set of sheets. It was amazing! I have never seen clothes come out of a washer so clean and nearly dry. The 2nd load consisted of heavy dark clothes, including jeans and sweat pants, socks, underwear, etc. These also came out beautiful!!!!!I can't understand what some of the other reviewers are complaining about!!!!! This is the best washer we've had so far. I love the fact that it doesn't have an agitator! It's great and I highly recommend it!!!!! It takes a few minutes to get used to, but that's like anything new!

My wife and I purchased this machine about a year ago and are VERY disappointed! We have tried multiple brands of detergent, followed the instructions carefully and it still does not clean clothes properly. It wrings them out so much that even permanent press clothes come out of the dryer wrinkled. Heavily soiled clothes come out looking like they were tie dyed. These photos were taken after being treated with pre-wash and washed and dried in this machine and the associated dryer. I posted a review on this site previously and it was removed. There was no profanity just a true accounting of how poorly this washer performs.

Comments about Maytag Centennial MVWC400XW White Top Load Washer:
This machine is costantly getting stuck in the wash cycle. I don't know how it conserves water if it is constantly washing the same load over and over! I do not overload it. As a matter of fact even washing one outfit does this...I sometimes just do the spin cycle to get them out of the washer. They were washing for three days one time. I don't beleive that it ever even went into the rinse cycle but I was very frustrated by that time and was running out of things to wear! Three days......Seriously!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

What happened to Maytag reliability???
By Hating Maytag
from Eastbay, CA
Our piece of junk Maytag started to throw out a bearing at about 1 1/2 years old, it was so loud we had to shout in the laundry room. When it was running it was so hard on our clothes that that holes appeared after a few washes on t shirts etc. I called the dealer who contacted the local Bay Area Rep Janice who refused to do anything for us. We ran it a few more months, now it completely died, it dropped oil and water, popped a circuit breaker and needs just about everything to fix it. Whirlpool, who now owns 75% of all Washer market sold us an extended warrantee this week for $300 and sent over a tech. The tech said it would cost over $800 to fix it and sent in his report to the warrantee / insurance company who quickly refused to pay and refunded out money. Whirlpool refuses to do anything for us and now I want to boycott Whirlpool and do what I can from keeping you from having the same grief. Not sure what to buy now as I'd like to buy American but Whirlpool can suck it.

I bought this Washer 2 and 1/2 years ago and very dissatisfied with the product. The warranty and service expired at one year. The machine sounds like its going to fall apart especially in the final spin cycle. Service and repair will most likely cost as much as the machine. My twenty plus year old machine worked much better. Unfortunately, I recycled it. Bottom line do not buy this or similar machines from Maytag.
DOES NOT GET CLOTHES CLEAN, TOO LOUD, AND FOREVER HAS PROBLE
from winner sd
I bought this machine 2 years ago and it's the worst washing machine I ever had. It had problems from the beginning and I have been putting up with it because how many people can just go out and buy a new washer. I thought I was buying Maytag quality but I no longer believe that. It don't get our clothes clean. No wonder there's so many sick kids out there. Now it won't wring our clothes out. Get it off the market!
Maytag made a lemon
from Boise, Idaho
I was originally pleased with the low water usage and the large capacity drum. However, I have only owned the machine for two years and the actuator has failed and the mother board has now gone out. Look at all the reviews of people who have owned this machine more than two years. I am not alone.

We bought this washer three years ago and have never been happy with it. It never seemed to clean my clothes the way it should. The cycles were very loud. The capacitor and kit burned out this week, so we decided it would be a good time to buy another machine.

maytag centennial spin and drain problems
from West Virginia, United States
I bought about 2 years ago and the sensor in it won't let it spin the clothes out. When the load is done the clothes have not spun and are soaking wet, when i set the dial to drain and spin it starts to spin then shuts down and the spin and lid light start blinking, I believe any machine should last longer than 2 years. My first and last Maytag washer.

AWFUL, AWFUL Product! The opposite of efficient!
from Oviedo, FL, United States
I purchased this product exactly three years ago, and today it has decided to completely stop working. But let me be honest, I have hated this machine since the day after I bought it and wish I could have returned it that day! It's awful! It doesn't wash the clothes very well, it drains extremely poorly, and it's really slow. If I have to wash things three times to ge them clean, how is that efficient? And why do my whites come out DIRTIER than when I put them in? I HATE this product. I have called customer service to complain, I have tweeted, and now I am writing on this page. I will NEVER buy a Maytag product again, this is absolutely ridiculous.
Maytag Centennial Failed
from Aurora, IL, United States
It is painful to always watch your money vaporize especially when you a trust a brand and buy Appliances. Maytag Centennial Wash Control switch failed and I had to go for a new one since changing these parts and make it rework costs so much I felt it is worth to go for a new one. This is just over two years old when it failed.
Piece of Junk!
from Port Richey, FL, United States
Not even a year old yet, and it has never worked correctly! This washer cycles over and over. If you don't catch it in time, it starts the cycle all over. I had one load of whites that washed from 8 am until I arrived home at 11:30pm! My water bill was through the roof after having this piece of junk installed.
