Excellent performance, even with our hard well water and without doubt, the quiestest dishwasher in the world. However, the front mounted touch controls are way too sensitive. For example, inadvertantly leaning against the machine will result in the machine starting, usually the Cancel/Drain function. We work around this by not latching the door when the machine is not in use; however, we avoid leaning against the door to reach something on the counter because that can latch the door setting up a potential start condition on the next lean.

I had an old top of the line KitchenAid dishwasher that was 18 years old. It worked great execept the top dish rack rusted out and I could not find the part to replace it. My old KitchenAid was made in the good old USA and when I called KitchenAid to find the replacement part they told me 1) the part is no longer being manufactured and 2) hold on to this unit as long as I could because I will not be able to find the build quality like my old unit. So I held on for another 2 years till the rack fell apart.When the rack finally gave way - I had to replace my old KitchenAid. After weeks of research I decided to purchase the KitchenAid KUDS30ix based on my fist KitchenAid experience on build quality. I was sold on the KUDS30ix front panel display, the fact it had a food disposal, and a number of other features like my old KitchenAid. Since I upgraded my old oven and went stainless steel - I also went for that option as well- stainless steel. Out of the box the unit looked very nice, however I could tell by the weight and components of my new KitchenAid it was not built as well as my old unit. After installation and the first run of the unit the water would not drain - the only way to get the dishwasher to drain was to hit cancel/drain. That did the trick for a week and now the unit will not even drain. Also, 2 blue lights are stuck on - "Hi-Temp Scrub" and "3-Ho ur Delay". When the unit did clean my dishes it did not clean well. It left a white residue from the dish-washing liquid. I used a top name dish-washing detergent brand/pre-rinse and rinse-aid as suggested. This was the same dishwashing detergent I have been using for years in my old KitchenAid and I never had a problem.. So the white residue I feel is not due to hard-water or dish washing products. [...] I have already purchased another dishwasher a Maytag - MDB8959AWS. It has all the features of the KitchenAid and has been very highly rated by most people who have purchased the unit. The motor is also to be stronger then the KitchenAid's which I now know is a very important feature manufactures don't tell you about. Try and find on product literature - you cannot find and compare dishwashers.I was warned by a friend who purchased a similar KitchenAid unit and was very unhappy with the performance of her KitchenAid. I wish I had listened to her..... This brand has gone way downhill since manufacturing in China. The same may hold true for Maytag - at least the motor is stronger however.

We are still waiting for restitution on this 2 year old product. It's own parts broke off, fell into the chopper area, bent the chopper and seized the motor. We sent you a letter on Oct 4th with pictures of the pieces the service person pulled out, receipts, etc. and have heard NOTHING. What happened to good customer service????
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I have owned this dishwasher for 5 years and have spent nearly $500 trying to keep it working. I finally threw in the towel today after the electronics failed for the second time. Stay away from Kithchen Aid.

Our first dishwasher purchased in 1990 was a KitchenAid with mechanical push button for controls. There were some problems with the buttons sticking and eventually the were stuck on normal cycle so that was workable. I don't believe we ever put in a service call for this one. Eventually the racks corroded and replacements were unavailable. It lasted 23 years. I was impressed with it's longevity to say the least so when looking for a replacement I had a KitchenAid bias. Additionally, I like to buy American whenever possible. We also have a KitchenAid electric flat top range which we have been pleased with for the most part.(Temperature probe feature has never quite worked right.) For our next dishwasher, I did a bit of research and decided on a KitchenAid again. I liked the adjustable rack features, touch pad controls and capacity. The noise level was acceptable. Unfortunately the top rack broke within 2 years and would slip off it's rail on the left side. The silverware bins have slotted tops for individual pieces which also fail to stay in place unless gently handled. To your credit, I called about the upper rack and it was repaired free of charge. The silverware slots are what they are. The materials and design for them seem ill fit for one another. While, I doubt we'll get 23 years out of this one, my hope is that the performance will hold steady for the foreseeable future. I can't recommend this model because of the rack failures within 2 years. I expected better.
No different from the rest

I purchased the dishwasher two years ago. The top rack is broken and the wheels have broken off. The rack is flimsy and is no different from cheaper models I have purchased in the past. I thought I was buying a better quality brand, but nothing seems to be made to last.

I bought this 3 years ago, and it works well. However, the tray structure is poor, the top shelf fell apart and it cost me over $200 to get a kit and have a repairman install it. No it is not warrantied.
NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE

Within months of owning this dishwasher, the seal broke. That was the one and only repair the manufacturer covered. Since then, we have had continual problems. Pieces are constantly breaking. We have had to pay out of pocket for at least 5 new parts. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
Top Rack issue finally addressed

We bought this dishwasher in 2011. It does the job. However, like many others according to the reviews, we had the wheels come off the top rack guides. While the rack is covered in the warranty the rollers are not. They last about two years with light use (two of us w 1/day wash). Worse; the little plastic spokes on the wheel guides break off. One got into the motor in the bottom of the unit burning it out: $173.62 parts and 178.13 labor plus tax. This current repair for the rack wheels comes with a total new design with a steel frame. Cost 43.38 with shipping. By rights this should have been a factory recall/repair several years ago. But better late than never. Also note: I consider myself mechanically inclined and this install gave me a moment or two. I'd guess a sig. portion of folks would have difficulty w/o some assistance. They do provide directions - but even so not very clear on several steps. I would only recommend this to a friend if the rack up-grade was completed. If not I'd recommend a preemptive strike and replace this top rack wheels before more severe damage is done. This was clearly a design flaw. These do happen and it should have been covered/repaired by the factory.
Worst Appliance I have ever owned.
I wish I could give it zero stars. I have wasted so much time and money getting this fixed. Cheap plastic parts, gaskets and new chopper. It is 4 years old and every time I think it will stop needing repairs, it breaks again. When it was still under warranty, Kitchenaid was cooperative and kept sending me new parts. Now, I get no response from them. Every time it breaks, I just want to throw it away and buy a new one. Worst purchase ever.

We bought all Kitchen Aid Appliances about 2 years ago. Stainless Microwave, Stove, Fridge, Dishwasher. Since then a stove top has quit working, replaced the motherboard in the fridge : (, and replaced the motherboard of the dishwasher and replaced the top rack adjustable plastic's in warranty and I've had to tie wrap a couple of the pieces together so it works, and just lately had to reset the power to the dishwasher as the front panel went black again and I had to tie wrap the rest of the plastic settings so we can use the top rack. Wow made so cheap?
