Unit is a 7000 Model. My wife is very short so wanted a front end loader. Also, all of our past washers, have suffered from paint erosion of the drum, usually after yr 8 of age, so we wanted a stainless steel drum, which this has. Finally, I preferred a USA product, designed and produced here, but yet of good quality, and I have always been interested in the Maytag dependabilty representations. The salesman seemed to know the products strong points, plus the warranty, on parts that we have had go bad in the past on previous brands, were were longer (10 years).I am totally taken with this product...it is just beautiful, simple but easy to use and attractive, if you can say that about a washer; I am a 66 yoa white male for the demographics. My wife loves it as well. It stands on a pedastel unit, which we bought, Maytag mfg'd, and it is very handy to hold supplies. Uncluttered the wash room considerably. The capacity is excellent, and the controls easy to use. I could have purchased the higher end 9000 series, which had more cycles, but my wife felt we would not use all of them; also the 7000 has all the upgrade features, so the 9000 is more cycles only and a different controls interface. Also, on a minor point, I had seen the controls of the 9000, as installed on a Whirlpool, and they were not well worked out, plus the design, as installed, did not look 'finished'.I like the Fresh Hold setting which does not allow mold/mildew occur, as it blows air #ambient temp I believe# over the load continuously, and rotates the load periodically for up to 16 hours. This is handy and used!Has sanitze cycle with steam, NFS stds. You will be surprised how little water is used, plus is the HE type detergent, low sudsing, etc.Very smooth with very little vibration. We used to keep washer room door closed and could hear lots of noise #previous washer 11 yr old top load expensive unit#, whereas even with the room door open, this cannot be heard running; very quiet. With heavy loads, at high spin speed, you can feel a little vibration with your hand on the top of the washer, but yet no vibration finds its way to the floor.A light can be turned on to illuminate the interior, any time during the cycles- nice touch. The controls are smooth in operation and the displays reasonable. If you want super pretty controls with a display like and iPod, then that is the 9000.So I intend for this to be my last washer purchase for a long time, and for now, we are off to a very good start!

I like the washer, except when it flushes the detergent, bleach, etc compartment, it does not evacuate it completely. Especially the bleach compartment. I have ruined two pieces of colored clothing after a white cycle, as apparently there is still bleach residue in the liquid bleach compartment. Because of this, it only gets a 3.

Comments about Maytag Maxima MHW7000XR Crimson Front Load Washer:
I would give this washing machine zero stars if possible. The timer says 59 minutes for the load, but it rarely is done in that amount of time, closer to one hour and 20 to 30 minutes. It hits the 19 mark and stays there for just about that long. We have had service out multiple times. They have changed out the computer and they say that is just the way it is, sorry. I don't think it gets clothes that clean either because it seems to wad them up in a ball when washing.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Expensive to fix
from Rural Oklahoma
I should start by saying I really enjoy my washer. However, after owning it for just 3 years, the motherboard, i.e. computer went out in it mid cycle. Isn't that a little early for such a sophisticated, expensive, and new wave machine??? I sure thought so. So to fix it, because we couldn't have just gone with an "old-fashioned" top loader machine, we have to pay the nearly $400 to fix it because it won't work without the computer being fixed. I'm not second guessing our purchase, I just never expected for something to go out of it so soon. Anybody else's thoughts or is this about normal???

I love this machine!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Quiet, feature packed, great cleaning. Love the allergen cycle, helps with our two cats. Love doesn't have to be such a pain anymore! I was warned by many family and friends that front loaders had bad smells, but this unit has had none. The fresh keep cycle has been a miracle for a hectic life. Love this machine.
Finally, a washmachine that works

From as far back as I can remember my family has had top load wash machines, but then again that's all that was available. Front loaders were available at laundromats but not for domestic use until the last 15 yrs or so. I bought a Maytag front loader and it's the first wash machine that has ever gotten my clothes clean. I was stunned. Plus it uses a fraction of the water that a top loader uses, and it gets my clothes clean!!!
I'm in love!

costly but not reliable

I bought this model in Aug.2012. It is not yet 3 years old and the mother board had to be replaced. 294 dollars later and you have a very dissatisfied customer who bought this high end machine in hopes it would be our last. Not so. Also the matching dryer has a start button that continues to stick. My wife uses either her fingernail or a flathead screwdriver to pull it out. The repairman said it would be another costly item to replace it. All said and done we are not happy and WOULD NOT recommend this combo to anyone. We are thinking of getting rid of it as soon as we can.

This is my first front load washer, honestly I think I prefer the top loaders. More maintenance drying out the rubber ring after each use to avoid the musty smell. Sometimes clothes still have an odor and I find using liquid fabric softener helps. Washer is very quiet, previously owned Whirlpool Cabrio and it sounded like a jet plane taking off. It cleans well I just wish the wash times weren't so long - average load takes 59 minutes and heavy soiled loads take 2 hours to wash, crazy. I'm all for conserving water but it's a bit ridiculous to take that long to wash one load of laundry.
Does it all
Very quiet and handsome design. Inside is supposed to have a light but it doesn't work.
Best washer we've ever owned!

The wife and I we're in the market for a new washer and dryer. After reading up on Maytag and other popular brand names, we decided on the Maytag. We are glad we did. This washer has many great features and is very quiet. After the highest spin cycle the clothes are virtualy dry, which means less time in the dryer = less money on energy being wasted! Like all HE washers, do not overload with soap! I was skeptical about that but, our clothes come out clean with the recommend amount or less. Which means more savings...
