Had optima 720 projector (dlp single wheel) for four years. Was great. Happened by floor model of epson 8350 for 200 off. Tried it at home. Wow. Needn't have worried about this being lcd instead of dlp. Adjustability is much more flexible, but key reason to buy is image. Much better with 1080 and very sharp focus. Even family noticed without me saying word. Ony negative is need dark room for it to shine. Mine is a windowless media room, so is perfect for me.

I owned the 8350 projector for 12 months before it systematically malfunctioned. Living in Bermuda, I had to ship it to a Canadian service centre that quoted me more to repair it than the initial product cost. Apparently the main board needed to be replaced; a ever common problem according to the service representative. After contacting Epson, they told me the warranty was not valid because I did not reside in the USA or Canada. They did not even give me a trade-in option for my projector which again, was near new. My concern is that they are hiding a flaw in their product that they refuse to admit to. I personally will never buy an Epson product again and I warn you against it. It was a great product at the beginning however Epson are refusing to admit to a manufacturing flaw so do not be surprised when your product malfunctions a year into having it.

best priced high-contrast projector

By

from Flossmoor, IL, USA

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

The 1080 resolution is excellent, but the 50k:1 contrast is what makes the image so beautiful (in a dark room.) Other projectors with this level of contrast cost double. The epson 5025 has even better contrast, but also costs double. The epson 2030 is only about 20% cheaper, and with 15K:1 contrast, does not have an image that is as satisfying. Also like the lens shift, can have projector to the side, not right in the middle of the sofa where you might bump it. Wish it was small like the 2030, and had the built in sound, but best deal out there for an image that is as good as a flat screen, and much bigger.

from Williamsburg, VA

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

I thought this Epson 8350 Projector was excellent before; but I thought I would have a close friend who is a media professional calibrate it for optimum performance, WOWWWW!!! Unbelievable !!! It the most defined, realistic picture I've ever seen in a home theater/media setting !!! Superb !! The depth of field and detail make the view appear as if you can reach out and touch the picture subject and scenery!! Thanks for engineering such a wonderful product!

Great picture for the price

By

from Poughkeepsie, NY, USA

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

People are in awe when they see the screen size and quality of the picture. It gives you that true Home Theater feel. All for the price of a medium sized big screen TV. Bigger screen size than you could ever imagine.

Beware of bulb burnout! - PowerLite Home Cinema 83

By

from VA

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

This is a great projector. However, I have had it about 1 year and am already on my third lamp bulb! The bulbs are expensive and seem to burn out quickly. We use the project around ~25 hours / week so it is not due to excessive use.

Mostly Satisfied

By

from Seattle, Washington

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

We have the 8350 projector ceiling mounted in a theater room. Distance to 110 inch screen is about 9 feet. We have used the projector for a about a year and a half now. The image is bright, even with some window shades open. Remote is easy to use, and intuitive. Adjusting the lens for screen size and focus is very straightforward, and it seems to hold focus without the need for adjustments. Family who use remote seem to figure out functions easily. My only critique would be that on HDMI setting the aspect ratio cannot be changed. I am not sure why this is, but it limits our ability to shift formats. On rare occasion we receive an error message when turning on the projector. But this is resolved by unplugging and restarting the projector. This happens maybe 10% of the time. On whole I am satisfied with the 8350 and believe it is a good value.

Exceeded My Expectations

By

from Atlanta

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

Had very high expectations based on other's review but this thing really performs. I couldn't be happier. I have a great home theater now. It was super-easy to set up and I was able to start watching movies within a half hour. Only drawback is constant stream of friends, neighbors, and family wanting to come over and watch HD movies. I'm going broke on beer and chips!

Second one works well

By

from Windsor, ON

Comments about Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector:

I bought this for my dedicated home theater when we finished the basement. The room is fully dark with no windows and is about 12'x20'. I bought the projector in March of 2013 but due to delays, it wasn't installed (ceiling mount) until December of 2013. It worked well for the first month but then started giving me an Iris Error. I would unplug it and fire it back up and it would work fine. Setting the auto iris to on or off made no difference in the frequency of this error. After reading about the problems many have had with this, I called Epson and they sent me a refurbished unit. It arrived very quickly and in a package that was re-usable with a return label. Although it was refurbished, it had no scratches on it and it has performed flawlessly for the past 4 months. It is worth doing some fine tuning on the settings based on your use and there are many websites with opinions on what is best. The standard settings are fairly bright and with a dark room, I didn't need it that bright and I'm hoping that lowering it may extend the bulb life as they are $$$. All-in-all, if this one holds up well, I am happy with the projector!
