A Washer that does not pretend to know more than you do

I had to buy 2 washing machines in 2012. I used the Consumer Reports tests to purchase both. For the first I chose a "Energy Smart" higher-rated model than this GE Unit. Lesson learned: The new Energy Smart "intelligent" features simply take more time of the user to get the job done. For instance, the "Energy Smart" chip decides how much water to use, NOT the user. Sometimes the chip isn't as smart as it thinks and not enough water is allotted by the chip to get the job done. So the user has to "fool" the chip by wetting the laundry first to make it heavier so the smart chip will dispense more water for the "bigger load". What a pain just to get a full tub of water! My wife does NOT like to use the "Energy Smart" washing machine. My wife does like this GE model. YOU (the user) sets all the controls and the washer does what YOU want it to do, NOT what some techie programmed into a smart chip for the washer to do. And of course since it runs by good old-school clock-work drives and manual switches, there is no "brain" in this unit that will die in a few years and you will find the replacement chip costs more than a new washer! I would have rated performance of this unit excellent, but the agitator cycles are only a choice of slow, and leisurely. I like the old-school agitators and motors that really swished the clothes around when washing them, you know they got clean then! But Consumer Reports did give this unit high marks for cleaning. And my wife LIKES it. Post script, when logging in to write this review I noticed that this model has been discontinued. All I would say to take away from this review is STA Y AWAY from "Energy Smart" and electronic digital control washers/dryers! Stick to the old school tried and true analog-switches manually-controlled machines. You will not only save money on the cost of the equipment, you will also save time as you will not have to figure out how to trick the smart machine to do what you want it to do, not what it's "brain" decides is best.

Did not want "energy-water saver" product & it wasn't advertised as energy star. Tub doesn't fill on super. Clothes seem to get more wrinkled and the cycle is longer, much longer than my last machine. I thinbk this is due to the strange rinse cycle. It seems the Downey fabric softner is rinsed out, more static on the clothes.

Comments about GE GTWN3000 White Top Loading Washer:
We have had this machine less than 4 years and it has leaked for the last 6 months. It is a leak that is not cost effective to fix. Loud. Leaky. (one positive thing, I can choose my water level..)
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This washer is agressive
from Pennsylvania, USA
I bought this washer 2 years ago and so far it has worked well. The washer is great for agressive cleaning but not so great for delicate cleaning. It is very loud going through the various cycles. Overall it washes the clothing adequately and is running trouble free for 2 years. As long as it keeps performing for at least another 8 years trouble free I will be pleased with my purchase and look to buy another GE product.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
this washer is a piece of junk all but stainless tub. due to size opening in laundry area I purchased the first washer that lasted 1 1/2 years was forced to buy a second washer but this time bought four year insurance. now I can dog it for 4 years
No spin cycle after wash is completed
from Diamond Bar, CA, USA
In my opinion the customer is always right. Due to my frustration and disappointment with my GE wash machine performance; tangling/twisting and tearing of clothes and water in rinse cycle, is too low to remove soap and no spin cycle after wash cycle. I manually by pass the rinse and reset to the wash cycle to rinse clothes, then reset machine after water drains and set machine to soak/spin cycle; who wants to waste time doing this? Shortly after we purchased the washer I took my clothes to the laundry mat, where my good clothes did not twist, tangle or tear. After the tech replaced the motor the washer continues to perform no differently. I have no choice but to decline from purchasing any GE products. My mom, grandma, aunts and me all favored GE Washer & Dryers for many years, now the buck for GE @ 72stops with me!
Everything comes out twisted tightly
from Pensacola, FL, USA
This is the worse washing machine I have ever used. After the spin cycle, the clothes are twisted so tightly that some items have actually torn. Even towels are so twisted that they have to be smoothed out by hand. I'm having to iron sheets and items that should be no iron. Also not enough water enters the machine to completely cover the load.

Since the first day this washer was poor due to tearing clothing due to spin cycle, we thought due to being new it would get better unfortunately it continued to tear clothing and now it stopped working after one year and two months and we don't know how to implement warranty. In attempt to fix one year and three months and this is after having a GE washer before that lasted 11 years. Help
This product can handle large loads.
from Adelanto, CA, USA
I have 3 boys that get their clothes very dirty and this machine is capable of getting them clean without my assistance of additional cleaners, which saves me money and because it can handle large loads with the same results I can get my laundry done in fewer loads.
Very good washer for the price
from Atlanta, GA, USA
We were looking for an economical replacement for a 20+ year old washer and dryer combo. We are really happy with this purchase. We were looking for a top loading washer with matching dryer and a good value. In the 10 months since we bought the pair, we couldn't have been happier. This model doesn't have the most cleaning options but they are more than adequate. And due to the fact that these are stored in a laundry closet the plain white appearance is fine and their size fits perfectly in the space.
Third replacement still a lemon
Yes, I gave up after the third time replacing this washing machine. About 25% of the time the spin cycle takes off and sounds like a Blackhawk Helicopter taking off in my basement. I see the model is discontinued so I that's why I was able to give it 1 star.
