I had a washer that chose the water level for you. I have learned, unfortunately, that those don't choose enough water to actually clean the clothes. This one lets you choose the water level which was the most important feature for me and it definitely gets the clothes clean. I have 3 kids and all are involved in sports, so I do a lot of laundry. This machine has worked well on everything, including comforters. I definitely recommend it.

Wish I had my money back. Even on maximum fill it's only 1/4 of a tub of water. Supposed to be either manual or automatic water level but the manual part does not work. The glass lid is nice, so you can watch the agitator beating your dry clothes. On the positive side, it is very quiet.

Comments about GE GTWN4450 White Top Loading Washer:
This washer is junk. Luckily I had the 1 yr warranty when the control panel had to be replaced. Purchased this in Nov. 2011. Now the thing won't agitate. No more warranty. It's no wonder they discontinued this model. I hate that I have to spin and drain and lose the water and soap when all I want to do is reset the controls. Well, it's discontinued so no one will be buying it. I wish they would replace my washer with an old fashioned one.

Overall great appliance
I have had this product for six months, had no problems and found it very easy to use. Mostly have small loads for two adults and rarely select higher than "large" wash size. Love how quiet it operates any fairly quick also.

Fortunate to find non-HE washer with these features
I am very pleased with the water/load selection. Clothes are clean. Machine uncannily quiet. Even using second spin cycle the clothes come out drier and not hopelessly tangled as reported on other models. I like the fact that I can control amount of water used with each load, open the lid without compromising cycle, can use regular detergent, and wash large comforters and rugs. The only change I would make would be the addition of an end of cycle buzzer. Again, so quiet can't really tell when it is finished washing.
I am very disappointed in the "Load Selector" option
from Kenneth, mn
We just bought a GE washer, model #GTWN4450M1WS. I am disappointed in the "Load Selector" option. Beside the “Automatic Load Sensing option there are five different settings varying from "small" to "super." There is nothing "super" about the "super" option. The water level varies from 6" high for the "small" load to 9" high for the "super" load. That's only a 3" difference! Since the tub is 17 1/2" tall you're using only approximately half of the tub's capacity at the "super" selection. I #now# know, this is a High Efficiency washer and they are supposed to run with less water, but 3" difference in five settings? Really?? If the whole point is to save water it would have been really good to know that up front. When I approached the sales person I advised, "I want a basic washing machine, not a lot of bells and whistles, definitely NOT a High Efficiency. I want to see my clothes swim in water to get clean!" Well, the model we bought is the one we were led to. I don't think the sales person realized it was a HE model either. Nowhere is it listed on the panel. I didn't find out about it until it was installed and used. I feel we were seriously mislead.
Quality and performance with water savings
This is one of the best washers we have purchased. It is quiet, saves water and cleans clothes cleaner than with our last washer.
Cleans better and uses less water.

GE top load washer #4450
I purchased this machine because it had all the features I was looking for. What I didn't know was that the goverment has limited the amount of water you are allowed to use in each machine. According to the GE tech that came out to check my machine because I could only get about half the basket full of water, it only gives me 22 gallons. That means I would have to do 2 loads to do the amount I was doing in one load. I was about to return the machine and buy one with a transmission that would allow me to fill it to the top, when he suggested hooking a hose from the sink next to the washer and fill it up to the level I wanted. This works great for the full loads I do. The machine works great and is quiet. Now I am enjoying it.

We did initally have a problem with this machine filling up with only 7" of water, but after a GE repair person pinpointed the problem as insufficient water flowing in from our plumbing, we discovered that the water supply hoses we bought (separately) had water miser filters (like the ones in faucets) built into them!! Once we replaced the hoses with normal ones, we have enjoyed all the features the machine offers. It is very quiet which we appreciate since our t.v. room is next door. Great GE product & service.

Washer Model GTWN4450M1WS
from Ohio, USA
I have had this GE Washer Model GTWN4450M1WS for about a week. Done about 8-10 loads. As of today I like it very much. I like the fact that it has a real agitator. I like the fact that I can control the water level. I like the glass top so that I can view its operation. I also like the fact that the top does not lock, thus making it difficult to add things. Operates quietly. Does a good job. I would like to come back and review it again... after I have had it for a year. Please note that I bought a Maytag about 1 month ago and returned it very unhappy. Of course Maytag isn't Maytag these days. Washer was a top loader without an old fashioned agitator. They call it an infuser now... and it sits at the very bottom of the basket and does not move the clothes around like a real agitator. Plus you could not control the water level. And the hot water setting was barely lukewarm. Plus the top locked when closed so you could not change things around in any easy manner. Of all the models I looked at... This Washer Model GTWN4450M1WS has features that allow you to be more in control of your clothes cleaning. Just like it should be. I am hopeful that it will last a good long time.
