We have had this dishwasher installed for about 2 weeks now. There is a little light in the upper right hand corner, and that is the only way to tell if the dishwasher is running. It is extremely quite! It does a fantastic job at cleaning and has a very large capacity. The cycle takes a little longer than our prior 7 year old dishwasher, but it is likely because it uses a lot less water and energy.

Our ownership of this product has been mixed. It generally cleans very well. It generally is quiet. However, it's incredibly quirky. Our old dishwasher failed a few months before we began a general kitchen renovation. We bought this unit intending to purchase new Kitchenaid appliances for the remodel. We'd use this dishwasher until we did the remodel and re-install it again later with the new kitchen.Overall, the dishwasher cleans pretty well. It does leave some spotting on glassware, but everything does come out clean with minimal pre-rinsing. It is generally very quiet. However, when it is draining the tub, it frequently has a loud rumble that's very disconcerting. Sometimes it's also impossible to select a cycle. The keypad on the door does not respond to touches and the LEDs do not light. Cycling the circuit breaker seems to resolve this problem. Some of the LEDs also don't light when a cycle is selected. For example, yesterday when I tried to select "Pro dry" the LED only lit dimly. I didn't want to go out to the garage to cycle the circuit breaker and ran it like that. The worst problem is that at the end of a cycle the bottom of the tub is full of water. Quite often the water is fairly dirty. I check the drain and it's clear. Since I can't be sure that the cycle ran correctly and that the dishes are really clean, we re-run it. It will usually work correctly the next time, especially if we choose a different cycle. However sometimes it will fail to drain the tub three or four consecutive washes. Usually in these cases, cycling the circuit breaker seems to "fix" the problem until it occurs again a few days later. We are very happy with the results of the kitchen remodeling, especially with the other appliances, which are Wolf and Subzero. We changed our minds about the appliances when we were in the design phase. But since Subzero doesn't make dishwashers and since this is a fairly expensive dishwasher, we reinstalled it.According to the Kitchenaid parts website, the electronics parts are about $400 plus another one or two hundred for a service call comes awfully close the the point where it might just make more sense to buy something more reliable than a dishwasher that fails after only two years of light usage.

Great Cleaning, but HORRIBLE electronics
Comments about KitchenAid Superba Series EQ Stainless Steel Built-In Dishwasher:
We upgraded to this machine in our new home. The machine is extremely quiet, cleans very well, and the utensils top rack, Pro Wash and Pro Dry are superb. With all of the excellence in the cleaning and insulating, the controls on this machine are the worst we have ever had in 40 years. With only 4 years usage (adults only in the home) the electronic indicator lights on the panel have been repaired 3 times and another two lights are out again. It's ridiculous; now, it's just a guess what options and cycle will run. After paying nearly $300 for labor, we cannot recommend what SHOULD be an excellent dishwasher. Very disappointed in Whirlpool/Kitchenaid quality that was once high in the industry.

Perfect for our kitchen & style. Outstanding performance!
from Olathe, KS
We've had this KitchenAid (KUDL15FXSS) for over two years now. We love it! We considered a Bosch but this unit is larger and fits our dishes and stemware much better. Early on we had an issue with the top control panel and it had to be replaced but customer support did an outstanding job! No problems since. Highly recommend!

I have owned for 5 years, has been very reliable and washes dishes very quietly. But it has the same fault all whirlpool dishwashers have problems with...... a design that will sooner of later have a problem in or near the main control board OVERHEAT. I had only a large amount of smoke and was awake during the event. I was able to quickly respond to the event and isolate electrical power quickly.

cheap plastic parts on top rack break off
from Seattle, Wa
The plastic rollers used for the top rack broke apart and now the top rack comes crashing down when we open it up. Not a great feature when you use the top rack to.... wash glasses!!Now it's effectively useless after 2 years.

Our dishwasher is less than 3 years old I have spent $200 on new rollers because the original ones cracked. The appliance repair company says that they replace rollers all the time on these dishwashers, typically after 1 year. Now I had to spend another $150 to find out that the clamp on the hose is loose and they cant replace the clamp alone you have to replace the whole pump which is $600. We are a household of two there's no reason for all these issues. We also have a kitchen aid refrigerator and over, both equally as terrible with multiple repair calls on each.

I purchased the entire Kitchenaid line for my kitchen 8/2011. We bought the top of the line dishwasher (KUDE40FX) because Kitchenaid has had a reputation of top quality - not this one! It leaks water out the front door. It has done that since 2012. I was sent a new seal and it was professionally replaced - did not solve the problem. (The serviceman said the original seal looks fine but changed it anyway) I was told if you use too much soap it may leak. REALLY!!!! - I then used a 2 tsp container and only use 1 1/2 tsp of cascade soap. - Still leaks - not all the time; just enough to drip down to my furnished basement and slowly ruin my ceiling below. They also had me replace the plug to my rinse-aid. Amway detergent was recommended. It seemed to make it better. I ran out of Amway but still used just the 1 1/2 tsp amount - This week it leaked out the front door so bad that it was dripping thru to the floor below. When I turned off the dishwasher while it was running and cancelled and drained it - the dripping stopped immediately. Also, sometimes nothing works -no lights on the board - a serviceman disconnected and reconnected the wires and it worked for a while, Since then it quits off and on. If I bounce the door it would start working again-so far. I've had at least 3 service calls on this item and have made several more calls about it. I can't believe there is not a recall on this product line. Also the rollers on the top rack are broken and I must be very careful in pulling out that rack so it doesn't drop or pull all the way out. One sorry product. Its suppose to be quiet but it sometimes has a crackling sound. I had a Whirlpool before that lasted 15 years without any major problems. I've also had my Kitchenaid trash compactor and the Kitchenaid refrigerator serviced.Whirlpool - what have you done to your products?????

A dishwasher, in theory, should just quietly and completely wash the dishes! What a concept. This time it worked. Got me thru Thanksgiving dinner with no effort. Thank you. This dishwasher I heartily recommend.

We purchased a new home and wanted to purchase Kitchenaid products because we wanted to buy American. We replaced the dishwasher, fridge and oven to make. The dishwasher unit is 2 1/2 years old and it has been nothing but problems. We had to replace the motor and pump assembly within the first year which resulted in our wood floor ripped up, kitchenaid was kind to assist in the cost. Now the drain pump needs to be replaced for $350. Sad to have to replace after 2 1/2 years! Makes us want to look at a Bosch.
Wash great, breaks way to often
from Montreal, Canada
The dishwasher works but the upper rack was poorly made. Mine is 3 years old, and I am ordering my 3rd upper rack roller assembly which wont probably last longer than the last 2, its cheap plastic. At 45$ plus tax + shipping it amounts to quite a total cost of ownership. (part PS10064063)Plus the door is now leaking and I may have to call a tech for this one. My previous kitchenaid worked 18 years with less repair than this one in 3 !Too bad, seemed an upper quality model, but I was wrong, too much plastic in the upper rack, will never last.
I expected more
This machine was working so well, we thought it would live up to the high quality we would expect from Kitchenaid (Whirlpool). After just 2 years the motor/sump gushed water all over my kitchen floor. It will cost about $400 to fix the dishwasher and my wood floor is warped/ruined. It is a high end expensive dishwasher and I would certainly expect it to last more than 2 years. I am replacing it with a Bosch that is totally sealed not an open frame as all the whirlpool dishwashers. Our ruined kitchen floor needs to be replaced also.
