Washing Machine Whirlpool WTW5700XW0We are very satisfied with this washing machine and highly recommend it.My review is rather long, even though I try to be concise and to the point. When we had to purchase a new washing machine after our last one began to fade after 14 years (and it was already used), we consulted a leading consumer evaluation service. Our final choice was among the top loading 'high efficiency' machines recommended. These new high efficiency machines differ substantially from the older machines. The sounds they make, the cycles they go through, the amount of water they use, are all very different from the older washing machines. We chose this high efficiency model for these reasons:1) it was highly recommended by the consumer evaluation service2) it is rated Cier 33) it has a glass topThe competitor (for us) cost another $100 for a glass top and was cier 2 (a lower rating). That clinched it for us to get the Whirlpool rather than the (xxx). I really wanted to get the xxx because that brand has served my family well for more then sixty years, and it was the brand of the machine we were replacing. But to pay $100 more to get a lesser efficiency rated machine just for the glass top? -- well, not this time.We were at first disconcerted with the noises but especially the low amount of water the Whirlpool uses. Never mind the different noises, we wondered how our clothes could possibly be cleaned with a level of water that never rose above the top of the clothes! Let me mention here that we are very happy with the glass top, which permits us to see the washer in action. Without the glass top, I would be constantly stopping, looking, and restarting, without seeing what is actually transpiring.Through the glass top we could see that the clothes are moved rigorously through the solution of water and detergent; so the manufacturer's statement that detergent is efficiently delivered makes sense. We rarely use a dryer unless it rains unceasingly for days and days; we hang out clothes to dry on a clothesline. After three months with our new washing machine I state unequivocally that whether dried on the clothesline or in the dryer, our clothes are at least as clean and fresh as before, and to my mind, better.I have wondered why reviews are all over the map: some claim the product is the best ever and others the worst ever. Sometimes complaints are handled well, sometimes not. Those that are not handled well lead to justifiably bad reviews. So how does one consider the bad reviews that are complaints not about a defective product, but rather about the product itself?I think -- and this is just my personal opinion -- that most complaints arise from not understanding how this very different machine works. If I look at the water level, for instance, and think this can never ever get my clothes clean, well then it may be that no matter how clean my clothes actually are I won't believe they are clean. As for the rest (I think a minor remainder), I have no explanation or speculative explanation. I would say, 'Give it a real chance. If that doesn't do it for you, seek recourse: get a replacement, another model, or go back'. I would rather not have anyone go back, because the water savings are significant.

I have to say I am very disappointed with my new washer. It doesn't clean well and I have to run loads 2 and 3 times to get them clean. I love the Whirlpool dryer and have never had any complaints about a Whirlpool washer until now. I have to literally set ever load on the HIGHEST and LONGEST setting and hope they are semi clean when finished. My husband works construction and I have pets so I am washing blankets, sheets, sofa covers and dirty construction clothes and this washer really - really does NOT clean them well. I hope it dies soon so I can justify buying a new one. :(

Low water and clean clothes!

I needed a low water machine, but was thinking I would have to give up white whites! My clothes are clean and about half the time!

leaves a bit to be desired.

Overall have been less than impressed with the overall performance. Clothes do not come as clean as you would expect.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I have had this washer for about amonth! I love being able to wash what I need and it fits because there is no agitator. So far so good! Just need the dryer to match. The Whirlpool washer is energy Efficiant which I love saves money!
Bought ours in Feb 2012. So far, so good. Had one service call when it was new. Sometimes dark colored clothes wind up with a detergent mark on them. Have to rewash. Usually only happens with one heavy dark blue shirt.Don't expect it to last nearly as long as my last machine (20+ years)but OK so far. Not going to pay $300 + for a service call when something breaks. I'll just buy a new machine

This washer started out strong but quickly started having problems. I have now replaced the main controller. Of course 1 month after it went out of warranty then the motor. Then the. Controller again.
It was great until the warranty expired at 3 years old.

I bought this and the matching dryer a few years ago. At first the machine was decent...I did have to retighten the bottom nut on the belt gear in my first year, but other than that it was good for the first three years. Right after my warranty expired the machine took longer and longer to wash and started doing weird things like not spin or not agitate. No codes were thrown. It also started using hot water to rinse instead of cold. I finally replaced it today as now the control board is supposedly bad (still no codes thrown). The dryer has been great. The washer was my most expensive washer purchase and I was disappointed. Also the interior finish degraded quickly around the bottom edge of the top of the cabinet. In the last couple years, I went from a +1 to a family of 6 :) The problems with this machine made laundry difficult. We would have to unplug, spin the machine by hand so it would start, etc. Wash took 2-3 hours a load at times.Right after I bought this new model, Whirlpool came out with another model at the same price point that is much better from what I hear. Many repair guys told me this one was a dud in their line-up.I love Whirlpool, but not this machine.
Waste of Money!

This is absolutely the worst washer I have ever owned! It doesn't clean the clothes, it takes forever and you often have to wash the same item several times to get it clean. Sometimes it just sits and ticks then it can take over an hour and a half to wash and the clothes still aren't clean!

I bought this washer and dryer and it is the biggest mistake I have ever made. I will never buy another Whirlpool product as long as I live...
I Won't Buy Another Whirlpool Washing Machine
By Former Whirlpool Customer
from Dracut, MA
I bought this machine from my local family owned appliance store on 2/21/12. As of 12/10/15 I have had to make 3 service calls to have this machine repaired. This first call was on 8/15/13 because the washer was noisy/grinding during the spin cycle. It turns out a nut fell off from underneath the machine. The repairman apologized for charging me for something he said he saw frequently with this machine and told me if it happened again to super glue it on. The most recent problem was the washer was draining but not spinning and the clothes were wet when the washing cycle ended. A service call indicated that the machine needed a new capacitor. Also, during this service call the appliance repairman asked if I noticed how loud the machine was. He stated the machine was very loud and that I probably didn't notice because it was getting louder gradually. He said this is caused by the transmission bearing and that this indicated the machine would need this replaced in the foreseeable future. He told me at that point I would probably be throwing good money after bad and should consider buying another machine. I emailed Whirlpool after his visit on 12/10/15 to complain. I was not expecting anything from them and true to form during my call with them today 12/21/15 they said "because of the age of the machine there was nothing they could do." My machine is not even 4 years old. I told the rep I wasn't surprised that nothing could be done but when the time comes to replace this machine it won't be with another Whirlpool. My last machine was a Maytag that lasted me 20 years. I have a family of 3 and do about 6/7 loads of laundry a week. Very disappointing.
