Martin Logan Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter, Model SWT1
Although correct room placement plays a key role in optimizing subwoofer performance,
it can impose the inconvenience (not to mention unsightliness!) of running long
lengths of cable through walls, along baseboards or under floors and carpets.
The SWT-1 Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter solves the problem and allows you to
place your subwoofer in the exact location where it will deliver the best bass.
Cable clutter becomes a thing of the past and actual system setup time can be
dramatically reduced.
Wireless Connection Simplifies Subwoofer Setup
While it's true that bass waves are non-directional and in theory, you should
be able to place your subwoofer anywhere in the room without affecting bass
performance or the performance of your other speakers, it's never quite that
simple. Bass is dramatically affected by the room itself – dimensions, dead
spots, archways, even furniture placement can cause it to sound bloated or boomy
with a lack of definition. Achieving optimal bass almost always requires experimenting
with the sub in various parts of the room...and there's the rub! While experimenting,
you may discover the best place for the subwoofer is all the way across the
room, far from the amplifier or receiver. Or maybe a "hidden" install is required.
Both situations impose the inconvenience (not to mention unsightliness!) of
running a long length of cable through walls, along baseboards or under floors
and carpets. That's where the MartinLogan SWT-1 Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter
comes in... MartinLogan Dynamo 700 and Dynamo 1000 subwoofers are designed for
wired or "wire-less" operation. A wireless receiver built into each of these
subs can be used to establish connection with the optional SWT-1 MartinLogan
Subwoofer Wireless Transmitter (sold separately and available from your authorized
ML dealer). The ML SWT-1 allows you to experiment with subwoofer placement to
your heart's content. Unsightly wiring becomes a thing of the past and the actual
reduction in system set-up time can be dramatic.
Under the Hood
Not convinced? Skeptical about wireless audio? You can relax! Following extensive
research and testing, MartinLogan engineers designed the SWT-1 with an uncompressed
16-bit/48-kHz sampling rate (exceeding the current CD standard of 16-bit/44.1-kHz),
which proved more than adequate (and accurate!) for use in the wireless transmission
of low-frequency information below 200 Hz. And since the RF transmission is
digital it is error-checked to ensure no deviation from the original signal.
The SWT-1 operates in the 2.4GHz frequency range. Often, users of wireless technology
complain about interference from other noise sources in the room (i.e. wireless
local area networks, portable phones on the same frequency, even microwave ovens).
MartinLogan engineers included an integrated RF power amplifier that provides
a 15 dBm RF power level to reduce interference. Stray RF interference is also
reduced through use of Adaptive FHSS operation (think Bluetooth technology,
it's similar!). In a typical room situation, the SWT-1's transmitter has a maximum
unobstructed operating range of 40 feet (12.5 meters) depending on placement
of course. If desired, its compact dimensions allow it to fit neatly into an
audio/video rack.
