So far so good...
from Chicago Suburbs.
We had this for 3 weeks so far. Nothing broke so far. Being very cautious because of hearing all the stories about modern appliances being sort of bad on quality front compared to the ones made 10-20 years ago. This is common though for all the refrigerators and not just this one.Now for the fridge itself. One fine day our 15 year old KitchenAid bottom freezer broke and since we fixed it (and paid a hefty sum) 6 months prior we decided that we need to buy a new one. Went straight to Abt since none of the big chains can compete with these guys on price, service and selection. Not to mention that none of them would deliver the next day which is kind of important when the fridge is broken. I was all set on getting a bottom freezer that had good comments on Abt and other sites, but... When I got to the store, the bottom freezer was a gross disappointment. The pull out drawer is just too small and clunky and hard to manage. Our old fridge did not have pull out drawer and all the new ones have them! Also because of pull out design, no door bins in the freezer! After looking around at all other bottom freezer and talking to my wife for half an hour on the phone (she was at work), decided to get a side by side since it would serve us better. Unfortunately we are limited by 33" width so there are not as many options for side by side or bottom freezers. This particular one was the best one from 33" available for the following reasons:-It had the deepest shelves-The way shelves are mounted on the back might not be the most attractive/modern way, but it gives you the widest shelf space-You get the most fridge section volume compared to all other brands in the same size (it does not have modern lights like LG which take up half of the top shelf or does not have the side, mounted shelves which all slide out but are narrower because of it by almost 2")The biggest problem I have with this one is that it's dark in the freezer. And it's kinda hard to find stuff some times int he freezer because of the way shelves are organized. Our old one had about 6 cu ft volume in the freezer this one 8+ cu ft. Yet it was easier to find stuff int he bottom freezer. Also the shelves in the doors in the fridge as well as all the pull out drawers seem to be not super durable. Time will tell how long they will last. Replacement shelves are expensive. It seems weird since Gallery is Frididaire's upscale tier so would expect better quality. One side note, can't see on any of the pictures, the sides of this fridge a grey and not black like on most SS models. It depends how you like it...Bottom line/overall - we like our new fridge.
Service and delivery comments:
Nobody beats Abt local service. Their delivery people are professional and courteous. They were able to do the next day delivery for something I bought after 5 pm! For the fridge they have to remove the doors and then put them back together (for the old and new fridge). No problems and all done very fast. And local delivery is included in the price (well they charge $19 for the fridge since it's a lot of work) so don't have to mess around with rebates/etc.
Delivery is subject to reasonable access to the area without damaging the purchaser's property or the product, or jeopardizing the safety of the delivery personnel.
