Canon SX230 HS Blue Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera - SX230HSBL

Capture the World Through a PowerShot. Travel the world with the new PowerShot SX230 HS digital camera. It's the first Canon PowerShot to come with GPS technology that'll automatically tag your photos with time and locations. You can even view all the photos' locations on a map by using special bundled software. And with amazing features, such as the HS SYSTEM, 12.1 Megapixels, 14x Wide-Angle Optical Zoom and 1080p Full HD Video, the stylish PowerShot SX230 HS is your essential traveling companion!

Experience the Power. The Canon HS SYSTEM takes the frustration out of low light shooting. The system delivers clear, blur-free shots with all the ambiance intact, and frees you from the sometimes unwanted effects of using the flash. Beautiful low light shots are possible at both low and high ISO speeds, and the dynamic range is expanded to retain maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas.

The system is the result of two technologies brought together in a compact PowerShot. The first is the 12.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, which positions the light-receiving surface for optimal light reception. More light means clearer, blur-free images with plenty of detail and nuance, even in dark areas. Working together with the CMOS sensor to deliver the HS SYSTEM is Canon's advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor, which actively reduces noise and delivers high speed image processing.

Features:

  • Canon's HS SYSTEM with a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS and DIGIC 4 Image Processor improves shooting in low-light situations without the need for a flash and lowers noise levels at higher ISO settings.
  • Full 1080p HD Video for exceptional quality and keep footage stabilized with Dynamic IS.
  • Remember where you were and when your pictures were taken with a GPS tracker that records your location, and a logger lets you view the locations on a map via Canon's software.
  • Powerful 14x Optical Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer and a 28mm Wide-Angle lens. Great overall zoom for a family vacation to your favorite tourist destination.
  • Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting situations.
  • Movie Digest Mode records a short video clip right before shooting a still image and then combines one day's worth of clips into one video.
  • New scene modes, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome, add an artistic look to your photos.
  • Large, bright 3.0-inch wide PureColor System LCD with high resolution and wide viewing angle.

Sweet camera!

Comments about Canon SX230 HS Blue Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera:

What a bargain this is! This is a sweet little camera with 14x zoom, shutter/aperture priority or full manual control, GPS, wide angle lens, and bright display. I love the manual control including ISO from 100 to 3200.

Comments about Canon SX230 HS Black Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I purchased this product as a companion to my SD880 IS since I wanted HD video capability with better zoom properties. The 14x optical zoom is fabulous for taking sports/action videos as well as some astronomy photos. I have used it for major league baseball, dance video, and Chicago Marathon. Battery life is relatively short, but disabling the GPS feature helps since I don't use it. If you wish to watch the 1080p videos on a large HDTV or monitor, the HTC-100 mini-HDMI cable is a great accessory. Stereo sound on videos is superior quality. I have used Canon SureShot/PowerShot cameras for thirty years and they are difficult to beat for quality and longevity. If you don't have the need for a DSLR camera or higher resolution photos, this has many of the same features at a fraction of the cost. I have had this camera for one month, so there are numerous features which I need to learn such as various scene shooting capabilities.

Excellent optical zoom and HD video recording. Very impressed with low lighting capability. Took this camera to a outdoor concert and was able to take some fantastic video clips that were better than what I was able to take with my more expensive SOny HD camcorder.

Comments about Canon SX230 HS Black Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera:

The only thing not to like about this camera is the somewhat anemic flash. However, there are plenty of ways to compensate with additional lighting, reflectors, etc. I was pleased to find the camera is not significantly bigger than other Canons in the SD/SX line. The zoom is great and both it and the shutter lag are plenty quick enough for me. I recommend you Google "Powershot SX230 reviews" to find online reviews detailing the features. As far as I can determine all features work as designed and advertised. The GPS feature is intriguing, but even if that gives up the ghose at some point, the camera would still be worth the money.

Comments about Canon SX230 HS Blue Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera:

I mostly use the camera to take pictures of horses in motion. The lag time from when you shoot til the subject reappears on the LCD is way too long. Also many of the pictures in sunlight are too bright. Videos are good and easy to do. And the continuous shooting feature is nice for action shots. Posed shots turn out very well. I hope with more time and trials, I can do better with the action shots. I will be very disappointed if not. Also, the software for editing is not yet very functional for me. Am learning more as I use it, but it still seems cumbersome compared to the digital compact that I have been using previously.

Finally a compact camera with long zoom and manual controls. The tiny sensor camera with a 400mm equivalent lens is handy for unexpected wildlife shooting. The camera's video feature is handy for the same "memory shot" functions of wildlife.

Comments about Canon SX230 HS Black Powershot 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera:

My sd700 broke so I needed a new camera. I looked at every canon model available and usually I try to stay away from brand new product because of inflated price but this one seemed to be superior as far as options out of all the models available.
The zoom quality is amazing. I havn't yet had time to test everything out but here's what I know so far.
        -HD movie quality is amazing.
-Takes a little bit to remember where all the settings/modes are and which buttons to press but once you do that navigation is fast and easy. This is a camera for a pro that uses all the features enough to navigate around the camera a lot. It does have auto and easy mode for people that don't know anything about photography though which i've noticed takes better pictures then using a specific scene mode (snow).
-Amazing compact camera for a nearly full manual camera.
-As other reviews state, the gps is very limited. It works perfect however and punching coordinates from the image into google earth comes within 1 meter. Con: The only way to see GPS coordinates of your location is to take a picture then look at the picture details.
-There also needs to be a feature to print gps coordinates onto the picture for printing as there is with date. I'm very surprised they don't have that feature, hopefully it will be a firmware update.
-GPS also drains battery a lot so it's a nice feature for just sometimes.
-The battery size was the same as my 6 year old SD700 so I was able to put use to my old batteries.
-As with other reviews the flash is annoying how it comes up every single time, but other reviews dont' tell you that you can also manually push it closed or pull open and if you turn on the camera and having your finger over it gently when powering on just keeps it shut. By habit I have my finger over it anyway when I hit power on and it never opens. I'm afraid of breaking it doing this, but it does state in the diretions/manual that it can be manually manipulated so i'm not worried about it since i rarely use flash anyway and it will not trigger in the down position.
-The camera is on the larger side of the compact cameras, but for all the features it has and 14x optical zoom, it's worth it and still pocket size.
-There is a special button for taking movies so you don't have to switch to any certain dial mode, which is nice.

Amazing camera, it should keep me up to date with the technology for another 6 years.
