Washing Machine Whirlpool WTW5700XW0We are very satisfied with this washing machine and highly recommend it.My review is rather long, even though I try to be concise and to the point. When we had to purchase a new washing machine after our last one began to fade after 14 years (and it was already used), we consulted a leading consumer evaluation service. Our final choice was among the top loading 'high efficiency' machines recommended. These new high efficiency machines differ substantially from the older machines. The sounds they make, the cycles they go through, the amount of water they use, are all very different from the older washing machines. We chose this high efficiency model for these reasons:1) it was highly recommended by the consumer evaluation service2) it is rated Cier 33) it has a glass topThe competitor (for us) cost another $100 for a glass top and was cier 2 (a lower rating). That clinched it for us to get the Whirlpool rather than the (xxx). I really wanted to get the xxx because that brand has served my family well for more then sixty years, and it was the brand of the machine we were replacing. But to pay $100 more to get a lesser efficiency rated machine just for the glass top? -- well, not this time.We were at first disconcerted with the noises but especially the low amount of water the Whirlpool uses. Never mind the different noises, we wondered how our clothes could possibly be cleaned with a level of water that never rose above the top of the clothes! Let me mention here that we are very happy with the glass top, which permits us to see the washer in action. Without the glass top, I would be constantly stopping, looking, and restarting, without seeing what is actually transpiring.Through the glass top we could see that the clothes are moved rigorously through the solution of water and detergent; so the manufacturer's statement that detergent is efficiently delivered makes sense. We rarely use a dryer unless it rains unceasingly for days and days; we hang out clothes to dry on a clothesline. After three months with our new washing machine I state unequivocally that whether dried on the clothesline or in the dryer, our clothes are at least as clean and fresh as before, and to my mind, better.I have wondered why reviews are all over the map: some claim the product is the best ever and others the worst ever. Sometimes complaints are handled well, sometimes not. Those that are not handled well lead to justifiably bad reviews. So how does one consider the bad reviews that are complaints not about a defective product, but rather about the product itself?I think -- and this is just my personal opinion -- that most complaints arise from not understanding how this very different machine works. If I look at the water level, for instance, and think this can never ever get my clothes clean, well then it may be that no matter how clean my clothes actually are I won't believe they are clean. As for the rest (I think a minor remainder), I have no explanation or speculative explanation. I would say, 'Give it a real chance. If that doesn't do it for you, seek recourse: get a replacement, another model, or go back'. I would rather not have anyone go back, because the water savings are significant.

I have to say I am very disappointed with my new washer. It doesn't clean well and I have to run loads 2 and 3 times to get them clean. I love the Whirlpool dryer and have never had any complaints about a Whirlpool washer until now. I have to literally set ever load on the HIGHEST and LONGEST setting and hope they are semi clean when finished. My husband works construction and I have pets so I am washing blankets, sheets, sofa covers and dirty construction clothes and this washer really - really does NOT clean them well. I hope it dies soon so I can justify buying a new one. :(

Very disappointed in this machine. It is only 6 years old and for the first 3 years it had very light duty as I lived by myself and only did 2-3 loads a week. Now the lid light flashes and it stops mid cycle. The only way to get it to work is unplug it and plug it back in. Service came out two weeks ago and changed the belt advising that it was the problem. Well the same problem continues to happen and we called service out again. Now they say the main control board has to be replaced at a cost of $240. That's in addition to the $160 bill last time they were out. Now our dilemma is do we sink more money into repairs or cut our losses and buy a new one. It is disgusting that appliances cost so much money and don't even last 10 years. I expected more from Whirlpool.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Would never recommend this washer

We have not had a pleasan experience with this washer. We can not trust it to work consistently. Many times, the wash cycle does not complete. Clothes are left soaking wet in the drum. It may take 2 or 3 hours to complete a cycle, sometimes correctly and sometimes not. Laundry is time consuming as it is, repeating cycles is totally aggravating and wasteful.
The money that I pay for it Is not worth

we bought the matched set 4 years ago thinking we were buy good quality items for the over $2000 we spent thought we would have machines to last a very long time. after all the ones we replaced were ancient hand me downs. the washing machine developed a leak was loud & noisey. finally it stopped agitating. we called a repairmen from our church. he informed us the washer was a very poorly made model & would cost over $400. to repair, & would end up having other issues. that we would be better off cutting our losses . needless to say im not rich & after spending a large amount of money to have it only last four years i am very unhappy!!!!!

I bought this in August 2016 and am very pleased with it except for the fact it has 'default settings'. I don't care for that. I like to choose the 'default settings'. When I load the washer, it automatically goes to HOT when we all know that the majority of the time we want COLD. On my old machine, I always had it on COLD and when I need it for WARM or sometimes Hot, I CHOSE. Half the time I forget I have to push a button to move it to COLD and that doesn't make my life easier. I like to throw the laundry in, know it's automatically on COLD and turn the cycle on.This is the only complaint I have about this machine. I long for the time we used dials and could leave the settings we want done the way we want.
Mediocre at best

This machine is very noisey during its wash cycles. We had a non high efficient top loader before and it was more quiet during its wash cycles.

Not I was expected!
A lot a problem with this machine, 1st went you wash dark color clothes leave a soap marks I have to re-washer, the machines locks you have to wait into the machine stop working to check the clothing, 2, it don't start right away, I have to run the ball clock wise 5 time them unplug, plugged back them is star working happens every time I try to use it, 3 do not take enough soap or fabric conditioner on the soap drawers that is the reason the clothing come out dirty, Don't like this product at all
Nice At First, Not So Much Later!
from Brooklyn, NY
At first the Cabrio is a nice machine. I've owned it less than 4 years and have had it serviced 2 possibly 3 times. Bearings have broken, lid will lock, water wouldn't drain, all of the above. After only 3 years there is horrible rusting under the lid. The rust just gets worse and worse. Powder coating shouldn't wear off after 3 years, and you definitely don't want rust on your clothing, towels, bedding, etc. It is best to use the clean washer feature, because for sure, towels and clothing begin to hold on to funky odors. Not all stains come out and the HE feature is meant to save on water, however, if the clothes don't come clean and you have to rewash, it defeats the efficiency factor. I gave Whirlpool Cabrio a shot, it's time to give up after 4 years. I strongly recommend to others reviewing Consumer Reports testing and ratings. I am therefore moving on to a Samsung Washer.
