I searched high and low for a replacement for our 13 year old side-by-side. I really wanted a french door style as I was sick of not being able to store an entire turkey or a frozen pizza in our freezer. I also didn't want to sacrifice the "swing out" space required for a bottom freezer with a single top door AND I wanted ice and water on the door. So I ended at a French Door. I thought it'd be so easy to pick one out but quickly realized our builder put us in a pickle. We have a full wall that extends 55" on the left side of where the refrigerator sits. (If you are ever designing a kitchen, DO NOT DO THIS.) This means that the left door cannot be opened even a full 90 degrees because the handle hits the wall. If the door can't open past 90 degrees, the full bottom fresh food drawer in most models will not open. It's not even a possibility. I spent countless hours on the internet looking at models and found a few options. From memory, I think they were Viking, Maytag or this Kitchenaid. The Viking was just crazy expensive so that was out. That left Maytag or Kitcheaid. The Kitcheaid was the only one that came in white so this is the model we chose. (With two kids in the house, I refuse to be a slave to keeping stainless clean!) Even though I couldn't find a model to go see in person, I was confident ordering it through Lowe's because they have a 30 day "Appliance Advantage" that allows you to return it if you don't like it. I figured we had nothing to lose. (And they price match!) We had this model installed nearly 2 months ago and I'm still happy with this selection! It is worth mentioning that we do have to pull out the refrigerator if we want to take out the ice maker. It's on tile and I can do it myself with a tiny bit of effort. I don't consider myself a strong person at all so this is quite impressive. It rolls very easily.FRESH FOODThe single drawer in the large fresh food compartment can be moved to where it works for you. We use it for cheese and it does it's job as well as a drawer can.All of the shelves are adjustable. The door compartments on the left hand side are practically worthless since they are so small but I really don't even mind. I store vitamins on that side and sticks of butter would fit on the top shelf if desperate. The ice maker takes up about 1/3 of the top shelf but, going from a 19.1 cubic food side by side, I don't even notice that space. The shelves on the right door are all adjustable and hold a ton.The glass shelves are all very easy to clean and I love that the bottom shelf is glass through to the fresh food drawer. Helps me remember about the options in there. The large fresh food drawer, above the freezer is a DREAM! The temperature is adjustable in the main compartment. We use it for vegetables and then some yogurt and cheese that my kids (4 & 6) can easily grab on their own. It comes with the drawer divided into 3 "columns" and you get one adjustable divider. Honestly when we first got it I didn't think that was enough but it's now fine. I really love that drawer!FREEZERThe bottom freezer took some getting used to just for arranging my food but I really like it now. I can fit in a frozen pizza but I'm not as confident about a turkey. I can definitely fit it in the fresh food compartment so no worries there. The freezer has 4 drawer and they all slide very easily. I use one for vegetables, one for proteins, one for breads and one for convenience foods. I must admit that I have it packed full but it is very usable space.FRONT PANELSome may not realize that this refrigerator comes with a sort of "mini" version of the half moon ice cubes. I believe they would fit better in water bottles and such. I don't use them for that but someone may care if they used water bottles a lot.I honestly use the control panel very little. There are light controls so you can leave on a night light, there is a door ajar feature (which I also appreciate), a water amount selector which I also don't use much. Also, there's a tray that pulls out to allow larger containers to sit to be filled with water. I guess that'd be handy but it doesn't take long to fill anything so I typically hold it.My kids can reach to put ice and water in their cups but cannot reach the buttons. I see this as a plus. ;)I've also seen some concerns about the ice capacity. We are a family of 4 (two are pint size) and I use ice all day long and I'm home every single day. My husband doesn't use any ice but I easily use the amount of two typical people. My kids use it here and there. After getting the ice storage built up in the first couple of days, we haven't run out at all. If I was having a big party I may start pulling some out to store in the freezer but it'd be an exception.NOISEI have read some reviews that say the ice is very loud. We thought the entire thing ran louder when we first got it but I think we tend to notice new noises and then they just become background noise. (I put a new light timer above my kitchen cabinets a couple of weeks ago and I could hear that hum over the refrigerator. Makes me think the fridge isn't very loud.) The ice does make noise when dropping but, let's be honest, don't they all? Also, one little thing that took some getting used to, when they ice tray is filled with water, it pulses about 12 times and you do hear it if the rest of the house is quiet. Again though, it's not a reason that I would tell someone not to get this modelISSUESWe have had one very slight, cosmetic issue since having it install. There is a silver accent around the temperature controller for the fresh food drawer and that essentially became unstuck (it's just a sticker). I called it in and a service man was here within days. He told me we could super glue it and I said I wanted a new one considering it wasn't even 30 days old and we spent good money on it. He understood and ordered a new one. He had to replace the entire bottom plastic piece but it is replaced. If it happens again I may superglue it but you'd think they could attach that with something more durable. This isn't an issue but another cosmetic thing that drives me a little wacky. The screws they use to attache the handles are silver and they really, in my humble opinion, stand out on the all white refrigerator. I keep meaning to buy some white nail polish to fix it myself but you'd think that's something Kitchenaid would do.... include white tipped screws.

I'm normally a simplest and don't spend the money on features. However, we wanted something easy to maintain and that last for years to come. The frig is well designed to make the most out of every cubic inch of space. I love the stainless face which makes it easy to wipe down between cleanings. I was worried about the stainless make every little finger print stand out, but I doesn't. The metal texture hides a lot more than you would think. My only negative comment and I mean my only negative comment would be that every once and a great while the ice maker gets stuck. it's probably because we don't use a lot of ice and it doesn't get used as much as some other may. But, I love the option of crushed ice and the programmable fill settings. I find myself drinking more tap water now that we have the built in filter. And our city water is normally horrible. So I can only imagine how good the filter must be to make it taste as good as bottle water. I love the efficient LED lignting. I always hated constantly change bulbs in our old fridge. Overall, I believe it was money well spent. Only time will test the rest since we have only had our new appliances for about three months now.

Manufacturer's Defect: Condenser Coils rattle LOUDLY
By Frustrated KitchenAid Customer
from Bonita Springs, Florida
Ongoing issue with Condenser Coils vibrating: Our new (installed 02/11/2013) KitchenAid refrigerator (Model KFXS25RYMS2)(with bottom freezer, and 4 doors) started rattling loudly within the first month. So loud, it would wake us up at night! Sounds like a fan blade rattling, and the entire fridge vibrates! KitchenAid Customer Service tried to put me off, until I finally convinced them it was not normal. They sent their repairman out, who unfortunately misdiagnosed the problem. After more than 2 years and endless arguing with KitchenAid, 4 professionals, including one of their own Tech guys, have confirmed that there is an ongoing issue with Condenser Coils vibrating in certain models. KitchenAid refuses to acknowledge this problem, or produce a proper factory fix. So far, the only effective repair has been "Cardboard shims" around the coils. And we cannot move the fridge, lest the shims dislodge. The latest repairman (Dec. 23/15) says it's not repairable and is a manufacturing defect. KitchenAid is ignoring him, too!KitchenAid is covering this problem up. They are not properly documenting the complaints, nor addressing them. Now they claim that it is only a "Cosmetic Problem", so they don't have to repair it!Today's repairman also advised me that my model also has an ongoing problem with defective ice makers, which KitchenAid is also repressing! We expected better quality performance and better customer service from KitchenAid/Whirlpool. I'll never buy another KitchenAid/Whirlpool product again! In hindsight, I think I was too polite and believed they would deal with me honestly and fairly. They did not.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We just completely renovated our kitchen and added all KitchenAid Appliances. We are extremely pleased although we are having icemaker problems. Repairman is coming next week, hopefully we will get this issue resolved. Other than that, we are very well satisfied.

Originally thought there was not enough space in the refrigerator due to ice maker, but there is plenty of space. Keeps a perfectly controlled temperature in both refrigerator and freezer. Love the center drawer for drinks and easy access items.

We purchased this refrigerator in April 2015. It is great. We like the 4 door option, the features on water dispenser display. It is like a smart refrigerator! Though the cu. ft. is smaller than our last, this one offers more storage space. Can store large items in fridge and freezer. Only wish the door compartments were a little deeper but we make it work.

I have only had my new fridge a few weeks but was love at 1st sight. Organization made easy and the freezer holds all those things that used to fall out of my smaller fridge when I opened the door. My next appliance purchase will definitely be Kitchen Aid.
The Missing Component
from Tuscaloosa, AL
My husband bought and entire kitchen of KitchenAid appliances for us as we remodeled our house. This is the first time in 36 years of marriage that I have a set of appliances that match in every way, down to the handles. I love the look, but the refrigerator is not as functional as it should be. While it looks over sized, in fact it holds much less than our previous piece. There is not a specific place for produce, which typically takes up a bit of space for us. There are only 2 of us in the household, so we do not purchase a large quantity at any one time. We have had to resort to using our older model in the laundry room (thank heavens we kept it). This new model cools well. It despences ice and water from the door in a quick manner, which I really like. The freezer is easily accessible. We enjoy using the outer drawer. However, I would trade some of the perks for some of the essentials (like a space for my fruit and veggies!!).I do like KitchenAid products, I am just disappointed in this particular purchase.
Ice maker problems
from Alberta Canada
Ice maker barely works. After three months needs to be replace again and again .We spoke to Kitchen Aid tech support and apparently this is a common problem with this model. They tell me the fridge needs up to 48 hours to fill the small tray with Ice.You are lucky if it doesn't plugged the dispenser and all of the sudden all the Ice will pour at once everywhere.I'm still paying for this repairs. Don't buy this unit if you like ice in your drinks.
