Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Micro Four Thirds Megapixel Digital Camera:

Im always a fan of trying something new and it is nice to see someone who is willing to take some risks as Panasonic has and come out with some great cameras while doing so. Having used both Canon and Nikons I really find that this camera meets my needs better. No discredit to aforementioned, they are both awesome but the size and convenience for lack of a better term in the layout buttons and menus make this an easier and quicker camera for me. Its all about personal preference however, I'd say find a good retailer you can take it back if you dont like it but give it a try!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 Micro Four Thirds Megapixel Digital Camera:

I purchased the G2 at a camera shop 6 months ago, because I wanted a lightweight, compact SLR. I handled the Canon T2i and compared the Lumix G2. The former felt bulky and heavy. The latter was nimble and light in my hand, with an excellent grip. It was quick focusing and ready to use in an instant after turning the switch on. The bright real time electronic viewfinder and the free angle LCD sold me. I found the learning curve for the camera to be steep. The manual accompanying the camera is unusable, unintelligible, and the only thing about the purchase that was completely unacceptable (and I have a doctoral degree!) Absent a useful instruction book, I just started using the camera, and over time, I have gradually explored many of its enormous menu of features. Pros: excellent portability factor; just what I wanted using the kit lens. It has a very sharp lens with a very useful zoom range. The low light picture quality is excellent, another thing I had hoped for. The speed of use from start up, sleep awake, focus and exposure is superb-a huge change from my dinosaur FZ20. I like the lack of barrel distortion at wide angle, and there is no drop off of light at the corners. Using programmed auto and iA modes, the exposures are right on. I especially like the quick custom menu for switching film types (e.g. black and white/color and other personalized settings.) the exposure control in iA is outstanding in difficult lighting situations. The touch screen is a feature which I did not use much; I preferred the cursors. The free angle LCD is bright and highly mobile-a very useful feature. The battery is huge, but I have found a second battery useful for a day of heavy shooting. Panasonic batteries may be required for this camera. Overall I have been very satisfied with my photographs. This camera represents a huge upgrade for me. So far, I have not found noise to be a problem in low light. CONS:1) I plan to buy the f1.7 20mm lens, but choices of other lenses for this camera are limited at present. Micro 4/3rd lenses are lighter, smaller than 4/3rd lenses. An adapter is required for 4/3rd lenses. I'd like a micro 4/3rd telephoto zoom lens with a larger aperture than the available f5.6. 2) Is 12.1 mega-pixels enough for you? I compose and frame tightly, so I don't have to crop and enlarge for most of my pics. Others may not be so disciplined, so a camera with a larger sensor and more mega-pixels my be more suitable, at the cost of bulk and weight for camera and lenses. 3) The on switch feels cheap. I wonder if it will hold up for the next 5 or so years I expect to use this camera. 4) Users will struggle with the learning curve of this highly capable camera which has both a touch screen and button cursor functions. The manufacturer should revise the manual to make it readable and useful. I have yet to use the HD movie feature much because I don't have the proper computer program to manage the format. I don't expect to use it for filmmaking other than home movie clips. Overall, I think I got what I wanted from this camera, and I have a long way to go before I will routinely use many of its features. I recently spent a week marching around Barcelona with my G2, and was quite happy with the portability, ease of use in auto modes, and quality of pictures. That the price of the camera has dropped $100 since I bought it doesn't bother me, because I have had the opportunity to capture great pics over the past 6 months using this camera.

finally a camera at this price that does everything it says it will. I'm not a huge fan of MOS sensors for low light recording although the color sensitivity and the battery life makes it worth it. I like that it shoots descent looking HD. Although again, I would prefer the CCD sensor for low light situations. All that said... Love Panasonic in general... they are definitely staying cutting edge.

My DMC-G2K was delivered a little less than a week ago and so far I have not been disappointed in the quality of build or picture quiality. I purchased this camera do go with my GF1 which I normally carry everywhere, but the more I use the G2K the more likley it will become my daily shooter, the digital viewfinder in the G2 is far superior to the optional viewfinder on the GF1 and the more I cecome acustomed to the new touchscreen the more I like it.

I have been using the the new G2 for 3 days and must say what a camera. It beats my old Leica hands down for ease of use and just great pictures. The new one touch video is a nice touch. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a great first DLSR.
