It does not come with the charcoal filter. For the price, you think they would include it. Once you do buy it (for about [$]!), it actually does not fit this model at all. Seems like GE got lazy and didnt want to redesign a new filter for this system. You have to constructively wedge it up in the vent opening for it to be of any use (after removing the silver frame from around it). -1 star for this known issue by GE. Other than that, operation is fine. Since there is no digital number pad, you cannot enter in weird time values like 13 or 24secs. The dial only allows increments of 5secs.

We replaced all of our GE appliances with updated GE appliances ~8 months ago â€¦ All have disappointed us. First, I have to agree with another reviewer that the knob control is "stupid." Really, just poor design ... While we have not had any reliability issues with this microwave, we find â€˜usingâ€™ the appliances a constant source of frustration. The source of this frustration and which is common across all of the appliances is that the lettering of all pad controls is gray on a black background, with no back lighting ! You can see this for yourself in the appliance photos on this site, and zooming in makes it even more apparent. The natural lighting within our kitchen area is well within the range of normal but, because of the lack of contrast between the lettering and the background itâ€™s necessary to turn on additional lights (e.g. overhead kitchen light) just to be able to â€˜see/readâ€™ the pad controls. You almost need a flashlight to use the controls, and Iâ€™m exaggerating only slightly. To us, this seems to be a design blunder â€¦ GE could have at least offered control back lighting as an â€˜optionâ€™ which we would have gladly paid for. As far as the 'convection' feature is concerned, it's almost useful (sic.) It takes so long to heat up that after using it a few times you will likely, like us, find yourself using the range oven or dragging out the toaster overn, the latter of which we were hoping the convection feature of this microwave would replace. No such luck ... Another disappointment is that the temperature/clock/timer lighting on the microwave and stove is greenish while on the refrigerator itâ€™s white. All are Profile appliances, all purchased new and all purchased at the same time. I understand designs change over time but, putting out a â€˜currentâ€™ line of appliances (e.g. Profile) with mixed lighting shows lack of attention to detail. The GE Engineers, Human Factors and Quality Control folks should spend more time with these units in the â€˜realâ€™ world and less time in lab. So disappointing, and so irritating â€¦

Convection has failed twice

Purchased this about 5 years ago and had to call for warranty support within the first year. The replaced parts have now failed again and the convection oven feature no longer works.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Stopped working after 18 months

I bought this microwave 18 months back. Yesterday, it just stopped working!!! I did not expect such poor quality from a company like GE...

PLASTIC MICROWAVE HANDLE

Been using since Nov. 2013. Have not used the convection feature at this time. Microwaves great very easy to use. Love the roomy inside.
Broke after 15 months of use

The unit was very attractive, but after 15 months of use, the control panel starting shorting out. After 4 attempts to repair, it was useless and out of extended warranty!

This microwave worked for about 6 months. Then it would not turn on after you hit the express button, unless the door was slammed closed. The service man ordered all the electronics and a different service man returned to install the parts that did not fix the problem(he was not very good at his job!) and the microwave did not work at all after he left! Also he managed to turn on the stove top with a plastic bag on top of it and he says I smell something, he managed to melt plastic all over the glass top elements on my stove and scratch the black on the stove top! So far they have only replaced the black stovetop an they say they do not have access to to glass top! So they send out the original tech and he finds that one connector is lose, but you still have to push hard on the door to make it come on. So he orders a new door assembly and about 2 or 3 weeks later he comes back and installs the door. It worked fine for about two months and now it is back to the same old problem of having to push hard on the door to get it to run! I complained so much to GE Consumer Relations that they sent me a letter of commitment to replace the microwave if I had any more problems! So now I am not sure that I want ANY GE product in my home! It appears that the model that I bought is no longer being produced and I can see why. So how do I know that I will not have the same problem with next GE microwave?
Don't buy this product

I've had this model for over a year over my stove. I did not realize how much moisture comes out of the top vent (as opposed to a front vent). It not only ruined the finish on my cabinet, but when I realized it, I looked inside my cabinet door and there was mildew inside the cabinet. DO NOT BUY ANY UNIT THAT VENTS OUT THE TOP OF THE APPLIANCE!
Replaces old GE

Needed to replace our 12 plus year old microwave....so replaced it with the same model as before. Just installed today and hoping we will have the same luck we had with the other older model. So far I am liking the styling and the inside; since the features are a little different then the old one, it will take a few uses to get to know it, but looking forward to a long and healthy relationship!!!!
