So far the unit has been great. It's not as loud as other reviewers have stated and it seems to dry clothes very well. I like all of the settings it has. The washer is a bit low where you really have to bend down to get the clothes out, but it's not a deal breaker. The dryer is huge and the lint trap does a great job.

We purchased this unit in early 2012 to replace a previous similar GE unit that happily lasted 12 years.

Do not buy this unit (as of 2012). This unit is apparently a relatively new design/redesign as of 2012 and it was badly done. Considering there two obvious flaws in the first couple months I am very concerned about "what's next".

The initial flaw (which ABT dealt with well) is the knob immediately broke. Several other people had experienced this (as noted in other reviews) and ABT was aware of the problem and resolved it quickly by getting a replacement knob and later a correctly designed knob to us.

The fatal flaw of the unit is the dryer destroys clothes with "small stuff on it". Small buttons, spaghetti straps, draw strings with knots, and similar items catch in the gap inside the dryer door between the spinning tub and the door (in my opinion). This is a theory I seen in other reviews on different sites. I have also seen it proposed the lent trap catches them. I am not sure which is correct, but the end result is the caught item is at best severely abused (twisted round-and-round) and worst case torn.

The ABT service man that came out when we reported the problem was unhelpful (which I find uncharacteristic for ABT) leaving my fiance with the suggestion to not to dry things. To be fair, we have not followed up with ABT again on this issue (though we will be).

I subsequent search of the internet found other people having the same problem with the dryer. The proposed solution was to use shims to give the unit a slight backward tilt so the clothes are not pushing against the front of the unit when drying and thus less likely to be caught. I have tried this with no improvement.

The dryer's lint basket catches strings, straps and buttonsand rips them apart. We have had this dryer for a little over two months and it has destroyed 3 bras and 5 shirts.

I found very few options for stackable washer/dryers that would fit my small closet space in my kitchen. In fact, this was pretty much the only option that fit the bill (gas, etc.)and it was one of the most epxensive. I was bothered by the lack of more affordable options, but I really do love this unit. I did have to remove my closet door to accomodate it, but it was the most shallow option. It works great and has a much larger capacity than I was used to. So, a word of advice: make sure you have all of your measurements and for the depth you'll need to add on another 4 to 4.5" to accomodate the hose.

My unit was delivered with a cracked/broken dryer knob and the dryer did not heat properly. ABT replaced the unit immediately but the second replacement unit also had a broken dryer knob. ABT sent a new knob and the unit is working well now but I am holding my breath. ABT was great...this stackable unit, not so much. Hey GE, fix the knobs!

I can realy tell you that this is the perfect combo for the second floor of your house. we eliminated a small closet and we installed the washer and dryer on the second floor of our house. I can sleep I can watch movies, I can wisper to my wife with no problem. The top load washer is perfect, no noise when spining, no noise when washing. It realy is the perfect choice. Is big enought for 2 adults and two kids. The programs are perfect. The dryer is the best too. I would recomand this combo to everybody!
