Seemed to be the largest washer size (depth) among the stackable options. Well-made product, easy to use with just enough features. Needs a buzzer to remind you when a load is done, but that's a minor issue. If space is an issue, this is a great option. Can still wash/dry very large loads (towels, etc) and up to a queen size comforter easily.

We purchased this unit in early 2012 to replace a previous similar GE unit that happily lasted 12 years. Do not buy this unit (as of 2012). This unit is apparently a relatively new design/redesign as of 2012 and it was badly done. Considering there two obvious flaws in the first couple months I am very concerned about "what's next".The initial flaw (which ABT dealt with well) is the knob immediately broke. Several other people had experienced this (as noted in other reviews) and ABT was aware of the problem and resolved it quickly by getting a replacement knob and later a correctly designed knob to us.The fatal flaw of the unit is the dryer destroys clothes with "small stuff on it". Small buttons, spaghetti straps, draw strings with knots, and similar items catch in the gap inside the dryer door between the spinning tub and the door (in my opinion). This is a theory I seen in other reviews on different sites. I have also seen it proposed the lent trap catches them. I am not sure which is correct, but the end result is the caught item is at best severely abused (twisted round-and-round) and worst case torn. The ABT service man that came out when we reported the problem was unhelpful (which I find uncharacteristic for ABT) leaving my fiance with the suggestion to not to dry things. To be fair, we have not followed up with ABT again on this issue (though we will be).I subsequent search of the internet found other people having the same problem with the dryer. The proposed solution was to use shims to give the unit a slight backward tilt so the clothes are not pushing against the front of the unit when drying and thus less likely to be caught. I have tried this with no improvement.

Comments about GE 27" Unitized Spacemaker Stack Washer With Gas Dryer:
This is the second unit of this kind. The first one lasted over 10 years and I totally expect this one will too. Larger capacity than my first one, but same great features and then some. We have it in our utility room, and when doors are shut, little noise can be heard. Only suggestion I would have, a buzzer for dryer when it has completed the cycle, otherwise very pleased so far.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

What could be wrong?
from Tucson, AZ
The washer and dryer are very quiet. This could be installed in your bedroom and used at 3 AM and no one would know it was running.
Work we'll and fits in my closet area

Love it! The size and performance is terrific!! This laundry unit does the job.
Do not like 'weak' agitation wash cycles
from Wilmington, NC, United States
Cannot get used to "regular/fast" and 'gentle/regular" wash cycles' agitation. They all seem "weak" as to getting the clothes clean. It's almost like everything washes on a gentle cycle. I plan to call the company to see if this is "normal".
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
So far, so good
from Maryland, United States
We have had this washer/dryer unit for two months now, and everything works great. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a buzzer, so you don't know when the cycle is complete. Also, I didn't find that the "auto-load sensing" mode worked. I thought it didn't put in enough water for the cycle. Other than that, we like it very much!
