I decided on this product because it fit the dimensions of where I wanted to place the unit and I really wanted a stackable. It replaced two units, a washer and dryer, from the early 1990s [not Whirlpool brand].Reading some of these reviews made me nervous. But, since my mother-in-law had a stackable from Whirlpool for a dozen years and still likes it, I decided it would be worth it. It took me a YEAR to save up the cash for it. (Part of this money was saved by drying clothes on the line during the summer months!).I have had the stackable for six months now and can report I am very happy with it. For starters it uses less water and electricity than the old units and frees up space in our house. We have concrete floors and sound is not a problem. In fact, it is not as noisy as the old units (which, in fairness, were at the end of their lifecycle and very noisy). The one adjustment I had to make was getting used to slightly smaller wash loads. That's okay. The added floorspace it worth it.We still prefer to dry our clothes on the line for environmental (& frugality) reasons but this has nothing to do with performance. On that note, it also cleans well if you make your own detergent!I am very pleased with the purchase. It was worth the wait!

I previously owned the same combo model for 17 years so when it started to have problems instead of having them fixed I purchased the same unit because it was a great unit. Now I wish I had my old unit back. This is a cheaply made, loud version of the old one. The "water saver" device only makes me do double the amount of loads because the water levels are so low. I even had a repair man come out and he said he got a little more water to come in it. Sometimes I have to rinse the load twice. Now I am stuck with a unit I hate.

Washer is horrible
from La Porte, In
Comments about Whirlpool 27" White Washer And Dryer Combo:
The washer only fills not even halfway with water, so we have to do more small loads of laundry.. This causing more electrical use as well as more water use.. Someone was not thinking when they designed this model.. Poor decision in making this washer "economy" feature... How is it saving you money when you have to run twice as many loads?
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Twins were already installed when I moved in. Anything bigger wouldn't fit. Had my doubts at first, but they are fine for a person living alone. A few comments on other reviews: if you have to run the dryer for more than one cycle for a normal load, there is a problem. Could be no heat or blocked vent or filter. If you are finding pencils, gum and whatever else behind the filter, don't blame the filter design. You should not be putting gum, pencils & whatever else in the wash. Also check your drinking water for lead.

Machine is TERRIBLE!!
By Average Bob
We originally had a Whirlpool that eventually started going bad on us. It wasn't so bad so we decided to get another one. We live in a condo and the unit just fit so that is anther reason we bought a more current version. This water saving feature sucks! What " genius"designed this. Not enough water to do big loads so now we do more small loads. Save on water, get screwed on electricity. The machine is very loud during the wash. The dryer is fine.. If I cold, I'd return it but the specs allow it to fit in my space so I can't accommodate a LG or Amana or Samsung. 'Don't buy this model. Just a piece of poop.

Combination washer & dryer. Whirlpool.
By Ewok 507
It's a great product, but I am disappointed that the washer only fills 1/2 way on a large load. It's a bigger washer, but I can't do larger loads. I don't believe it saves water in fact it probably uses more water by doing more loads to make up for having less water in the large load, which causes more use of electricity by doing more loads.

Lint Catcher is next to useless
from Athens, GA
This is the washer dryer that came with my apartment, and the lint trap does not create a seal, allowing lint to pass through many places. Behind it is a grate, that I didn't know existed until I decided to see what was behind the lint trap. There I found about 1/2 cubic foot of lint, gum, a pen and pencil, and the key to my clothes drying in one cycle rather than having to use two. I am still in the process of cleaning this grate, and have been for over an hour. This could have been prevented had you made a lint trap that didn't just loosely sit there, and one that was useful.

Bought this combo washer/dryer for our 2nd house. Had to get something that could fit in a tight space and had good reviews. This washer/dryer is great. It is fairly quiet and cleans well. Does not hold a lot of laundry but no combo does. I would highly recommend this model.

Its cheap and heres why ... ...
from Dallas, TX
Washer only barely half fills up. Don't fill this washer full of clothes to the top because due to new, I assume, govt. requirements to save water this machine will not fill all the way and therefore does a fair job at best of washing clothes along with a "slow speed" rinse and again, half fill. Hot water mixes with cold, again due to energy star requirements so you will not get a traditional hot water wash. The washer is very loud during operation and has little capacity, especially if you want the clothes to come clean then you would only have to fill the tub half full of clothes and therefore do many, many loads, hence there goes the point of saving any water or time. Waste of money.
Stacked washer and dryer

It is working great!

After reviewing our stack washer/dryer options we decided to purchase the Whirlpool unit for both quality and cost. Now that we've had some time using this product I'm very happy that we made this choice. Provides a large washer capacity, cleans the laundry better then we had expected and the drying cycle is quiet and speedy. All in all a great buy!
