KitchenAid 36" Stainless Steel Under-The-Cabinet Wall Hood, Model KXU8036YSS

With a 600 CFM blower motor, this vent performs well over cooking surfaces with outputs up to 108K BTUs. A stainless steel body and heavy-duty filters offer durability, while the under-the-cabinet configuration allows you to hide ductwork in the cabinet above.

Features:

  • Hidden 3-speed control makes it easy to select fan speed and operate lights without detracting from overall design
  • Three speeds and a 600 CFM motor keep your kitchen fresh by easily handling the venting needs of any cooking style
  • Automatic turn on helps keep a fresh kitchen environment by turning on the vent when it senses excess heat
  • Premium dishwasher-safe commercial-style baffle filters offer durability and capture more steam, grease, and odors
  • Commercial-style series vents offer power and durability and can operate over surfaces with outputs up to 108K BTUs
  • Halogen lights provide increased visibility of the cooking surface with brighter, more natural light

I just had mine installed today, I had it custom painted in black to match all my appliances, the power of this hood is impressive, of course it has to be noisy at the highest speed and it was expected, I did a lot of high heat frying and sautéing and had no smoke whatsoever in the house, before this hood all my fire alarms went off when I cooked, could not be happier, good investment!!!

I got this installed in my new home 1.5 years ago. I have had several installation problems initially. I can say that this unit is designed poorly, which was confirmed to me by the Kitchenaid reps I spoke to.
The portion of the hood that actually sucks up air is only 14" deep (from the wall). The rest of the front is a nice looking flat panel with two lights which is practically useless. So if your cooktop is like mine (24" deep) then the hood does NOT suck in anything from the front burners unless it's just boiling water steam. Yes, it works fine for the back burners and yes it will hold up a paper towel once you place it against the grille but that means nothing for daily use as the smoke/steam/smell from the front burners just goes around the front of the unit, all over your kitchen/cabinets, not into the grill.
I would add that at the highest speed the unit is louder than average which is unjustified for its performance.

Comments about KitchenAid 36" Stainless Steel Under-The-Cabinet Hood:

Pros:
very quiet at low speed.
looks beautiful.

Cons:
Builder grade.
Buttons look cheaply design and made.
Hard to clean the grease from the grease catcher... only way is in dishwasher, but you have to lay it flat so you kind of have to do a dedicated cycle just for it.

The grease filters are extremely easy to remove and clean. The "ink" on the control buttons has already worn off in 7 to 8 months of use.
