First used it in a very damp basement and i was emptying pan 2X a day and the air felt much drier.
Now down to one pan a day, but the real surprise may be when i get my next elec bill!....stay tuned
Otherwise it works well, fan is 'aggressive' but not annoyingly noisy. It is a little odd that the unit exhausts upward but not a problem. The water pan is VERY awkward to dump and a slight spill always results....simply bad design. Did the designers never have to empty it? haha or does everyone but me connect it to a hose?
Overall a good unit for a good price and i WOULD recommend it to others.

After humidity is reduced to selected level, unit continues to run indefinitly. Also, unit should come with a drain hose.

It's fine in my basement, though less effective than my previous model from another manufacturer. It has worked fine for about a month, but like all products, who knows about tomorrow? I wish there were an option to buy an extended warranty at a reasonable price.

Humidistat is not accurate and the reading bounces around between 60 and 85%. I use an external humidity gauge to give me correct readings.

We bought this because our 5 year old Kenmore had yet another failure (after two fan replacements, the coolant leaked out). The Kenmore had a 70pt capacity, and we were concerned that the 50pt GE might not be up to the task. But since larger size GE units were not available when we needed it, we took a chance. It took this unit some days to catch up on the humidity left from the failed Kenmore. It is now (3 weeks later) cycling regularly and appears to have brought the basement's humidity down to a safe point. The bucket is not so large as the Kenmore, thus meaning three emptying cycles per day, and the fan seems to run constantly, but the unit works well. Interestingly, it seems to be more effective when the fan is set on low. [...]

This is the first GE brand dehumidifier I have purchased. Bought based on the latest Consumer Reports review. Works effectively and is much quieter than the previous unit that stopped working after 13 months. This time I hooked up a drain hose so I would no longer need to empty the built in bucket. Works very well now that I have been using it for about one week. This is my third dehumidifier, so I did purchase an extended warranty just in case.
