I've used this product for quite a time. At first glance, the fit and finish looks good, light, easy to handle. The SWM is a great addition for users of all entry level camera bodies, AF speed is acceptable and MF override is possible. Image quality wise, TREMEDOUS, it goes beyond my expectation even at widest aperture (though contrast dropped just a little), sharpness is great at the center, the corner is not bad, then everywhere looked tack-sharp just around F2.8 - 4. Background blur is a little harsh wide-opened and becomes most pleasing around F2.8 All in all, if you're a DX shooter, go to buy this lens now, I know you'll love this just like me.

This is a very sharp lens with crisp contrast. The colors are snappy and the color cast is neutral. The area of caution for me is the bokeh. If you want this lens for general picture making and/or available light-type photography, it's a good choice. I got it because I needed a lens that I could use at large apertures for full-length to waist up portraiture. It has a good angle of view on my D300s, but the bokeh is not smooth. It's passable with simple backgrounds, but if there is anything visually complex in the distance it doesn't smooth out. Instead, you get these weird patterns going on that are only a little less distracting than if I stopped the lens down. I've tried everything from wide open down to f/4 and nothing really looks very good. I understand there are limits with shorter focal length lenses, but I thought Nikon might give us something more here. But hey, it's a very low priced lens, so...

Great lens, especially when you're on a budget!
Comments about Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f1.8G Lens:
As a a mostly portrait photographer I love a wider focal length with a lower aperture. However, this lens is the perfect focal length, not too wide and not too up close making it great for just about any circumstance. Not to mention it is incredibly light weight and pretty dang sharp. The only thing I hate about this lens is there is a lot of chromatic aberration (pictured below, READ CAPTION). But, I guess this is where "you get what you pay for" comes to play and it's nothing a little post op lens correction can't fix, (thank god). Overall, I would definitely recommend this to those who are all about working with what you can afford!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Best dx portrait lens ever! And for an amazing price
This was the first lens I have ever bought separately from my 2 kit lenses, I use this on my d3400 and it provides amazing light and background blur and 35mm is a nice focal length, I got this lens because it was one of the most reviewed and one of the cheapest lenses out there, and it was the only f/1.8 lens made by Nikon for dx cameras, you cannot go wrong with this lens and I highly suggest it for beginners who want to do portrait photography.

I bought this lens almost a year ago and it has become my go-to. I love shooting portraits with this lens and it is amazing in low light. Overall strongly reccommend
Must Have for DX cameras
Got this normal lens a year ago after reading good reviews. They were right - this is a very sharp and fast lens at a bargain price. I carry it everywhere to use in low light situations and landscapes. I've used it with a D3100 and D7200. Awesome with both.

Bought this for my 3300. Used indoors for holiday pics without a flash. Sharp pictures with ambiant light.

This is one of my go to lenses always using this wonderful piece of glass. I do most of my photography in abandoned environments and this lens holds up great to the occasional misstep
Perfect compact lens.

For such a cheap lens, this little guy gets the job done. I use it for everything from portraits, products, to scenery and close-ups in nature. I really have no complaints besides the AF being a little picky, but I use MF most of the time anyway. Overall a great lens. Lots of power in a small package.
It's a great prime lens. Abt delivered it promptly.
